The air between them crackles with tension, thick and heavy, and Harry can feel his nose tickle. Harry clenches his jaw, trying to suppress the shiver that runs through him, but the proximity, the warmth of Louis’ body so close, makes it impossible.
“Stop it,” Harry finally mutters, but his voice sounds weak to his own ears, lacking any sort of determination.
Louis’ lips curl into a knowing smirk, his thumb still tracing maddening circles over Harry’s pulse. “Why?” he whispers, his voice teasing but laced with something darker. “You seem to like it.”
Harry’s cheeks burn, a flush rising to his skin as he glares at Louis, his pride the only thing keeping him from completely unravelling. “I don’t.”
The smirk on Louis’ face deepens as he steps closer, his breath warm against Harry’s ear. “Liar,” he whispers, smirking, the word sending a shiver down Harry’s spine.

Harry, after late night calls and senses of irrationality so strong he’s bordering idiotic, attends Louis’ X Factor performance of Just Hold On, where he has to wait backstage to see Louis while knowing what Louis is going through and despite wanting, more than ever, to go hug his husband and tell him how strong he is.
The longest three minutes of Harry's life are about to ensue.
