Summary
Mike’s heart lurches into his throat, constricting his airway as he takes in his face. Because he knows that face. His eyes have wandered along that strong nose, those bunny teeth peeking out between parted lips, that mole beside his mouth. He’s catalogued every detail of that messy brown hair, those long eyelashes, and that pair of enchanting hazel eyes, over and over again, to the point where it burns behind his eyelids when he kisses his girlfriend.
“Holy shit,” the man breathes, gaping in shock, and for once in his life, Mike doesn’t need a trick to stop his loud mouth. For the first time, he’s truly struck dumb.
Because it’s him. Older, taller, and different, but it’s him.
The man standing in front of them, somehow, is Will.

18-year-old Will Byers gets sent back to July 1985, tries to help them out using some awesome superpowers and futuristic wisdom, and Mike does his best not to combust in the process.

Summary
Mike thinks it all started the day the Byers moved into their house.
Having sold their house in Hawkins a year and a half prior and moved to California, when they came back, and the town got put in lockdown, they didn’t have a place to go.
Mike had kindly offered up their place during dinner.

The 18-month gap between s4 and s5 told from Mike's POV with minor other POV's as the story progresses. The gap has been lengthened to encapsulate more time passing. They start at 16, but by chapter 6 they're 17 1/2 with them turning 18 chapter 32/34.

"Will Byers," she said slowly, deliberately, watching his pupils dilate at the name, "*waited* for you. While you were dating his sister, while you were busy lying to yourself—he *waited*." She snorted, shaking her head. "Kid's got the patience of a goddamn saint." Mike choked on something between a laugh and a sob, his gaze flicking toward the window where the storm still raged—toward the direction of Will's house.
