"What?" Keith had the audacity to ask.
"You- you said you never kissed or made out with anyone!"
"Yeah, I haven't."
"Then why the hell did you just make out with me like you're a pro?!" Lance squawked, knowing full well that Keith was staring at his face this time around because his entire face was probably turning bright red by the second. (Lance would know; he could feel his cheeks heating up in real time.
The red paladin looked pretty pleased by the sight.)
With a smug, somewhat lop-sided grin, Keith answered: "Guess I'm just a great visual learner. A genius, maybe."

“So, Keith, I was thinking if you could tutor Lance here for this semester.
He has a scholarship, for now, and his grades are… below satisfactory. While it is indeed a sports scholarship, I do want my swimmers to graduate excelling in both studies and sport.”
Lance could see that Keith’s answer was a flat ‘no’, but then Coran started talking about how he would give Keith extra credits for his subject, a.k.a. a killer subject that seniors often struggle with, and Lance.
Lance was already shaking his head from side to side not so discreetly when Keith turned to look at him.
Judging from the look in Keith’s face, though…
“Okay,” Keith agreed.
Should Lance even be surprised that all three men in the room didn’t even bother to look at him and ask for his input?
or Lance was falling behind in his studies, so his coach assigned him to Mr. Smartypants (a.k.a Mr “I hate his guts since First Year”) to get his grades up. (Why is this ‘smartypants’-slash-rival always acting so weirdly, though?)

“Say, in, I don’t know, Galra standards, from 1-10, how much do you think Keith hates me?”
What an odd question.
“What an odd question,” Kolivan repeated his thoughts out loud, perplexed at being asked such a question.
“Keith does not hate you at all,” the Galra said, watching as the blue paladin sat straighter and looked at him with his mouth agape, as if Kolivan had said the most shocking thing he had ever heard. “He had acknowledged you, and your skills, to me, and I have no doubt that he… appreciates you and accepts you as his… comrade.”
Kolivan wondered if he had said something wrong when Keith walked into the kitchen, his expression similar to the blue paladin as he looked at the Galra.
Had Kolivan not known any better, he would have thought the half-Galra was feeling embarrassed.
There was nothing to be embarrassed about.
or Galras are known to be blunt with their words and observations. Kolivan liked to state the not-so-obvious-yet-so-obvious about a certain half Galra - usually happening around a loudmouth of a human.

Summary
It was a lot like torture. To see his owner yearn and long for someone who was attainable.
He thought Keith was a masochist. After all, if Kosmo was pained from just watching, he was sure Keith felt even worse.
Though when Lance ended up getting together with Allura, Kosmo somewhat understood.
Emphasis on ‘somewhat’ - because Kosmo was a space wolf, and he had decided that humans were idiots. His owner, in particular, was even more of an idiot.
or maybe the big bad half-Galra and the most soldier-like farmer just needed a little push from the space wolf to reconcile.

“The rules are simple.” She said, eyes darting to a clock on the wall before she looked back at Keith, “Unlike the past, no matter what you do in the future, the past will not be affected. You will be.
All you have to do is observe the future, pinpoint where and when the potential ended up buried forever, and return to stop the same from occurring in your future.
There is no point in changing the future you will see, for that is already set in stone. Observe what has bloomed and grown, find the root, and leave the future to flourish on its own.
For beauty is subjective, and perhaps there is someone beyond our time that sees an incompressible perfection in the future we deemed unexplored.”
With those words, Queen Masari held the drink out to Keith, and, for a moment, the black paladin stared at the drink in genuine wonder.
Was it really a good idea to just leave his team behind like this?

Summary
Lance fretted over Keith, adjusting the instant hood, while the black paladin blinked rapidly in relief at the provided shade.
It felt a little odd for Pidge. To see them like this.
Watching them argue was becoming a common thing that Pidge had gotten accustomed to ever since those two became co-leaders. Watching them do this, however, was something that the green paladin felt like she needed more time to get used to. (It reminded her a lot of times when her mother would try to persuade her father to remain in space for too long or to just abandon space altogether because she's worried.)
or the team was still stranded in space after defeating Lotor, and they kept on ‘dreaming’. Pidge ‘woke up’ one day to the familiar sight of an alien-beach.

Summary
Imagine this: a medium-sized colosseum, a huge cauldron in the middle, and the black and red paladins angling and hovering above it - with aliens watching them descending into their doom for the past… 30 minutes Earth time, or something.
They've been dangled on top of the cauldron and were slowly lowered into it. What fun.
Anyways. Back to the topic at hand: the biggest shit Keith has gone through.
“Keith, Black Paladin of Voltron,” Lance started, unable to stop himself from snickering while Keith made a sound that was a mix of complaint and protest before the red paladin continued, amused as laughter was bubbling up his throat, “I know you're losing your mind because the aliens- pfft- speak alien language, but please stop struggling against the chains that are binding us together.”
or Keith and Lance are going to be dipped into ‘volcano’, and their priorities are all over the place. (To make fun of the other or to actually think of how to escape? Woah, decisions decisions…)

Outnumbered, Lance’s frown only turned harsher, glaring when he spat out his next words in frustration, “Well, I don’t see you guys giving any ideas on how to proceed here!”
As much as they needed to act quickly, Hunk should also checked on his best friend.
So the yellow paladin grabbed both of Lance’s shoulders, made sure they were holding eye contact, before he said reassuringly:
“Lance. Stop taking your frustrations out on us.”
That may have come out a little wrong.

Allura of Altea was a bundle of joy. A delight to have around even back then when the only sounds she could make were giggles and laughter, soft and loud depending on how she was feeling.
Having been one of the - if not the most - closest aides to the king, Coran spent quite a lot of time with the princess. Whenever Alfor had urgent matters to deal with, he would entrust the princess to Coran or other maids or teachers of the princess.
Although, Coran liked to think that the princess always had preferred him over anyone else.

Pidge’s brooding was interrupted, however, when she heard the sound of Lance’s jovial laughter along with water splashing, followed by Hunk’s supportive laugh and Keith’s unusually disgruntled shout.
“Lance! Stop splashing water at me!”
“Oh, don’t be a baby, mullet!”
“The only baby around here, is you - why are you so excited about being at the beach anyway?!”
“Keith, you insensitive moron! Have you forgotten that it’s been months since we left Earth?!
Of course I’ll miss the beach!”
At least some people were enjoying their temporary entrapment here.

Allura opted to be the ‘cool-headed’ one, for once. She is the blue paladin, after all; just like how Lance used to be the cheeky and relaxed one when he was the blue paladin.
So here Allura was, calmly seated on her chair and going over their plan while Keith and Lance had abandoned their seats in favour of glaring at each other and sizing each other up. (”Just… men and their ego, you know?” Pidge had sighed rather tiredly, the other day.)
“Lance, has anyone ever told you your voice is great to listen to?” Keith was sarcastically asking, capturing Allura’s attention as she watched her two fellow paladins stand so close to each other - a show of intimidation, perhaps.
Humans were odd.

He didn’t bother to wait around, leaving Keith all by himself in the healing pod.
He did, however, say with a wobbly voice as if to lighten up the mood:
“Make that my birthday gift, would you? My birthday’s in a few vargas anyway.”
See, Keith wondered: how the hell was Lance able to keep track of Earth’s date in space?
But, more than that, guilt was eating him alive from the inside at making Lance go through all that fear when it was only vargas away from his birthday.
He had to properly apologise - or something.
or the black paladin wanted to make it up to his red paladin - by perhaps making a fool of himself by, for the first time, trying to plan a surprise birthday party all by himself for the said red paladin.

Just don't stare, and just act like everything is normal.
Lance mustered up his most normal ‘I am totally not thinking of sweeping Keith off his feet just because he's a girl now’ face before he spoke as casually as possible.
(His breath may have caught a little in his throat when he made eye contact with Keith, but it didn't happen as long as he didn't acknowledge it.)
“So. Do you prefer to go by he/him or she/her now? Oh, but maybe you would prefer to go by my/mine?”
…
Not a muscle on Keith's face twitched.
What the cheese.
“What the fu-?” Keith had started to say, only to be cut off by Pidge deadpanning something along the lines of ‘that was painful to watch’ while Hunk defended Lance's honour with a sheepish ‘that's not his best line really’.
or to secure an alliance, Keith ended up alternating between being a girl and a boy for some time. It was a change of perspective for a certain someone. (Why does it take seeing girl Keith for Lance to see just how beautiful Keith himself is?)

With a resigned sigh, Keith turned to his mother, and mustered up his most convincing ‘no-nonsense’ look.
“I didn’t.” A second longer before he added, “Plus, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Krolia had a knowing smile on her lips, and if there was one thing that Keith knew about his mother, it was that despite how they had only just reunited with each other for a while, his mother was somehow miraculously very good at getting a read on him.
“You did,” Krolia affirmed, looking even more convinced and confident in whatever vague idea she had of the situation as she continued talking, “You are asked to choose who among your team members will you spend an eternity with. You chose him, but panicked when he had chosen you.”
His mother was absolutely wrong!

Unexpectedly, James placed a hand on Lance’s shoulder, lightly pushing the paladin aside, and Lance had to try very hard to not stop the man from walking past him and towards Keith.
Keith, who was wiping away sweat on his face with his shirt, focused and was in his own world the way he always did whenever he was training.
(The sight was not rare for Lance. It was a sight the red paladin had gotten to see almost frequently, especially ever since he became the black paladin’s right-hand man.
Lance would rather have that sight all to himself - and reserved to only a select few people that Lance deemed safe.)

“You haven’t talked,” Keith said simply, hesitant for a few moments before scooting a little and patting an empty space on the bed to signal for the other to sit.
“I haven’t talked? What do you mean? I’ve talked all night long! Wait a tick- you actually like me talking a lot, don’t you?!”
“You did talk all night long. But you didn’t talk about what you actually wanted to talk about, did you?”
For a fleeting moment, Lance tensed, but the moment passed by as quickly as it had happened, his shoulders going slack before a somewhat resigned yet amused expression made itself known on his face.
“You’ve gotten sharper, samurai. I didn’t know you could get sharper.”
Something in Lance’s voice was tugging at Keith’s heartstrings - in the worst way possible.

Lance had made it a habit to coax him to join the parades whenever they managed to get some time to themselves. Sometimes, the red paladin would bother Keith during training; other times, the red paladin would even go as far as to bother the black paladin in his room - all because he wanted to persuade Keith to join them.
“We can’t really form Voltron without you, Keith. You know, since you are an essential part of the team. Irreplaceable and all that.” Lance had said numerous times, with varying sentences and words.
The red paladin had even gone as far as to walk Keith to the space pod for the mission the black paladin had just finished. Just because he wanted to make Keith promise that he would be on time for their parade.
Too bad. Keith was not really good at keeping promises.
“Welcome back, cheater.”
or Keith subconsciously cares and wants to do something for Lance, but instead ends up hurting his right-hand man.

“Allura! Turn off the robots! Keith and I were talking!”
There was an acknowledging scoff from Keith, followed by a murmur of ‘of course it’s Allura’ as the black paladin kept on swiftly swiping the approaching robots, going as far as to have covered for Lance a couple of times. (Even without meaning to, Keith still somehow managed to flaunt his skills.)
As if prepared for Lance’s order, Allura deadpanned.
“Hunk, Pidge, and I have decided that we have grown tired of dealing with your ‘talking’. Properly talk through this chaos, and maybe the two of you would finally meet common ground that will guarantee that we will not be subjected to the two of you arguing anymore.”
Lance squawked, disbelieved, and Keith had grunted, picking up the red paladin’s slack when Lance had irresponsibly dropped his guard.
