“Because, Lance, being a knight would mean you can lawfully land an attack on me without being accused of treason. After all, you have been refraining from punching me at numerous points in time for such a short duration of our meeting.
A tempting offer, is it not?” the stranger almost drawled mischievously, a taunting smile on his lips.

“Uh… Lancelot, I don’t. I think I’m missing something. We’re just in a storage room hiding from the other knights.
If anyone wants to blame you for helping me, I’ll stand up for you, and use my title to back you up. You know, like how I used my title to get you to get me away from Percival and Galahad. Plus, what’s so weird about us being in a storage room? We’re just hiding.” Sonic said, tone seeming to be leaning on ‘comforting’.
Still, Sonic started talking once again, something along the lines of ‘should I make a new rule to allow hide and seek in the castle and make it annual?’, but Lancelot’s confusion was getting the best of him, and all it took was a shaky exhale from himself for Sonic to stop talking.
Sonic felt the shaky exhale from the black hedgehog against his lips, and somehow it looked like it immediately clicked for him.

Immediately, Knuckles turned to look at his blue roommate, a skeptical furrow in his eyes even if he asked what he thought of anyway.
“And what does Shadow think of me, hedgehog?” the black hedgehog’s name rolled off his tongue as if he had known and used that name for a long time.
A baffled expression graced the blue hedgehog’s face, before he scoffed in disbelief with a prominent scowl on his lips.
“How come you call him ‘Shadow’ and all I got is ‘hedgehog’?!”

All Sonic could muster was a nod. But Sonic was thankful for nodding because the smile Shadow gave him, soft and small and almost shy, was everything.
Okay. Yeah. Sonic may have a tiny crush on this Shadow.
But.
But what if Sonic’s in love with this Shadow and not his?
Falling in love twice with the same person is no way possible - right?
But as Shadow snickered whenever Sonic made a mistake before correcting him, as Shadow challenged him for the most trivial things during their dance back at the party to fire Sonic up, as Shadow chided him for always failing to tie a tie correctly in the comfort of the black hedgehog’s room after yet a short dancing session in it…
Sonic came to realise that perhaps he’s much more in love with his Shadow than he thought he was.

Recalling that picture once again, Sonic felt himself feeling something akin to mourning.
No; this isn’t who Shadow is.
He had seen the black hedgehog at his best through a mere picture, and he was nothing like the one standing before Sonic just a few seconds ago, thirst for revenge so strong he was losing sight of who he was, stuck in a fog he couldn’t find the exit of without his guiding light.
As much as Sonic wanted to help him through the fog, the marble turned blackhole was quick to be the center of all of his attention.
He can do this.
He’ll help Shadow - because that’s what heroes do.
He’ll help Shadow smile again.

“Are we making a wager here, hedgehog?” Shadow asked, suddenly coming to his attention at how hard his heart was racing compared to the peacefulness his mind was in.
The grin on Sonic’s lips stretched further, and it was suddenly brought to Shadow’s attention how even more attractive someone could be with confidence. (A confident Rouge was someone Shadow had gotten used to. Sonic, however, was new.)
“Is it really a wager if I know I’m going to win?” The blue hedgehog questioned right back, leaning in and prompting Shadow to subconsciously turn so that he was facing the blue hedgehog.
Face to face and noses brushing, it came to Shadow’s attention that he was really, really, screwed.

His smile was indeed comforting and understanding - and yet satisfaction and unplaced pride too were disguised behind it, the corners of his lips seeming to be struggling to not curl up any more than they already had.
As soon as Sonic realized Shadow was looking, the hand that had been gently scratching behind Shadow’s ear almost harshly turned Shadow’s face to look away, no longer privy to whatever expression the hero had on his face.

Boboiboy gently closed his laptop, and gestured very obviously at the paper filled with what-seemed-to-be scribbles and… doodles of Ejojo with his typical exaggerated smug expressions - except extra ugly.
“You’re obviously upset with Ejojo. Great artistic stuff there, by the way. He always looks like that to me whenever he’s acting all high and mighty.”
Adudu seemed to want to refute at first, but chose to focus on the latter part of Boboiboy’s sentence instead as he picked up his book and gave his doodles a closer look.
“You’re at least right about one thing: that guy’s hideous.” Adudu stated in a deadpan. (To save him and Qually from yet another one of Adudu’s murderous glares, Boboiboy chose to not point out how a corner of Adudu’s lips twitched upwards a little.)

“Wha- Plankton kinnie? Really? You- well, yeah, okay. We really are going to be rivals since our cafes are, well, cafes. So I’ll watch my back if I were you. My grandfather’s kokotiam has always been the people’s favorite. Don’t feel too disheartened when we get more customers than you do.” Boboiboy said, all offense and nothing else.
Fang hummed, and for the first time since they met, a confident smug grin was on his lips, and Boboiboy found himself staring as the guy’s words were barely registered in his head.
“Take your advice for yourself later once we steal your customers.”
With those words, Fang left, and Boboiboy was left, well, staring.
…if their food sucked, Fang may actually manage to sweep some customers off their feet with just his looks.

So, in an attempt to return the kind gesture in the form of a hug from Boboiboy, the alien awkwardly tapped Boboiboy’s shoulder a couple of times before quickly retracting his hand to scratch the back of his head in embarrassment.
“It was- It’s nice seeing you after so many years, Boboiboy. I’m- I’m glad you are, well, here, I guess?”
Fang would surely blame his incapability of being unable to show appreciation to his friends on his older brother who had always had an odd way of showing that he cares.
