Summary
The good part about knowing Eskel was that Geralt did not have to pay the $10 entrance fee on his way into the party. The bad part about knowing Eskel was that he was immediately dragged to the sign-in table, given a name tag that he we would have rather done without, introduced to about seven people whose names he immediately forgot, and shown the giant white board where people were writing their names, things they were looking for in a scene and what they were wearing, which, cumulatively, was more than Geralt was prepared to handle first thing.

Summary
The monofin mermaid tail was something that Steve has gotten very used to in the past few years. Was Merman Performer on his list of hypothetical jobs for when he graduated high school? No. Did it pay surprisingly well and was it satisfying to be the center of everyone's attention when he swam? Fuck yeah.
It also didn't hurt that Eddie was into the whole...merman thing. More than once he'd surprised Steve in their own backyard nearly Olympic sized pool (financed mostly by Eddie’s burgeoning music career) dressed in a shitty pirate costume, come to seduce the lone merman.
Steve liked that too, despite the terrible pirate accent Eddie insisted on. But, to be fair, Steve liked most of the absurd, terrible, demeaning, or painful things Eddie did to him.
That was why he had agreed to...whatever this was.

There is something in the woods. Steve has faced down enough monsters now to know when something is off, and there’s something in the woods. The dead animal reports are hardly a surprise. The dead teens aren’t really either in a place like Hawkins, but it escalates much faster than Steve expects it to. A dead dog, dead deer, Tommy H.’s dumb face on the Hawkins Post along with the world’s most dishonest obituary, saying what a stand up guy he was, and a credit to the community.
