Tripping Into Your Lips (Day 3: Accidental Kiss)

Summary:

“Nice going, Luz. You just had to lose your balance when Boscha bumped into you and fall onto Amity. Not only that, but you just had to land in such a way that your lips touched hers!” Luz shouted as she threw her hand up in the air before covering her face once again.

“I can’t believe I kissed Amity….” The human felt her face turn dark red as she admitted what happened out loud.

Notes:

Hi everyone!
I know this is very, very late, and I'm so sorry that it is, but as I promised, I will be doing each prompt no matter what.
I want to thank everyone who has been reading my Lumity Month fics for their patience.
Also, while I was working on this, it was announced that season 2 will air starting June 12th, and the synopsis of the first five episodes of the season were released, and they released the new intro. I'm super excited that I can hardly wait!
Anyway, I think this turned out better than I thought it would.
I hope you all enjoy the story! Comments and kudos are very much appreciated!
Thank you all so much!

Work Text:

Luz ran as fast as her legs could take her. She had really done it this time. Luz had messed up many times before, but this had to be her worst screw-up yet. She ran to one of the entrances to the Secret Room of Shortcuts and quickly opening and running in before shutting the door behind her. Luz took a moment to catch her breath before sliding down to the floor with a sigh and buried her head in her hands.

“Oh, man… Amity has to be absolutely furious with me.” Luz said to herself with a groan as she lifted her head and ran her fingers through her hair.

Luz thought back to what had happened just a few minutes ago.

It was the beginning of the day, and Luz was talking to Willow, Gus, and Amity by her locker. As they were talking, Boscha and her gang were walking by.

“So anyway-” Luz started just as Boscha, with a smirk on her face, had bumped into her.

“Woah!” Luz shouted as she fell forward, closing her eyes as she prepared to hit the floor. When she noticed that instead of hitting something hard that she had actually landed on something soft, Luz opened her eyes slowly.

Her chocolate brown eyes met with the piercing gold gaze of Amity’s.

The next thing Luz noticed that her lips seemed to be pressed against something soft, and it was then that Luz realized that they were pressed against Amity’s lips.

She quickly pulled away and got up off her friend that she had accidentally fallen on top of and kissed.

“I-” Luz blushed lightly and started to apologize before she was cut off by the sound of someone laughing.

“Wow, human, can you be any more of a screw-up? Not only can you not do magic properly, but you can’t even stand on your own two feet. Geez, you really are pathetic. How does it feel to have your first kiss stolen from someone as pathetic as round ears over here, Blight?” Boscha said with her gang laughing behind her.

Luz felt her face turn red when she heard Boscha’s words. Luz turned and looked at Boscha, who was now laughing with her gang at the human. Unable to bring herself to say anything, Luz did the only this she could think of. Run as far away as she could.

“Luz!” The human heard her friends call out to her, but that didn’t stop her. All Luz knew was she needed to get away from everyone before she messed up even worse.

“Stupid Boscha, why’d she have to bump me and make me kiss Amity?!” Luz said out loud as she got up and began pacing.

“Not that I didn’t want to kiss her… No! Don’t think that way, Luz. Amity already has a crush on someone.” Luz said sadly as she stood for a moment and began rubbing her hands on her arms.

After a moment, she shook her head and gave herself a fake smile trying to bring her mood up as she brought her hands down and patted the side of her legs. “Besides Luz, you already promised yourself that you wouldn’t tell Amity how you feel. Your friendship is too important for you to risk it over a simple crush.”

‘A simple crush that has lasted for a while now.’ Luz’s brain decided to provide.

“Shush brain, we already decided on this together.” Luz scolded herself before she started pacing again.

“I guess I can at least be happy to be able to say my first kiss was Amity….” Luz nodded to herself with a small smile. It only took a moment before the realization hit her.

“Oh my god! Amity was my first kiss!” Luz shouted as she squatted down and covered her face, which she was sure was a dark shade of red. Her heart began racing, and she couldn’t help the squeal that escaped her lips.

“Even though it was just an accident, I still can’t believe that Amity Blight was my first kiss,” Luz said as she stood back up and began bouncing in place.

“This is…” Luz started to say excitedly with her hands up in the air before remembering something Boscha had said.

“How does it feel to have your first kiss stolen from someone as pathetic as round ears over here, Blight?”

Her hands dropped to her side, and her face fell. “I stole Amity’s first kiss….”

“Oh God, I’m the worst friend in the world! While I’m all happy that my first kiss was Amity, she must be devastated that her first kiss wasn’t her crush but was actually her weird human friend…” Luz said as she dropped to her knees on the floor.

“I should feel bad… I wasn’t supposed to be her first kiss. And yet…” Luz fell back and lay down on the floor and stared at the ceiling.

“And yet… Why can’t I be upset about it?” Luz said as she clenched her hand over her heart with a small, sad smile.

By the time Luz felt prepared to leave the Secret Room Of Shortcuts, half the day had already passed, and it was lunchtime. She had already prepared excuses for her absence for when she went to get her classwork and homework from her teachers.

As she walked into the lunchroom, Luz realized that she had forgotten to come up with something to say to her friends about where she had disappeared off to.

Amity was the first person to notice her walking up to the table. “Luz! Oh, thank Titan, you’re safe. I was- I mean… We were so worried about you when you weren’t in any of your classes this morning.” Amity said with worried-filled eyes.

Luz felt guilty and looked away from the green-haired witch’s gaze before sitting down at the lunch table. “Yeah, sorry, I suddenly felt sick and ended up at the healer’s office all morning.” She gave them a weak smile hoping that her friend would buy it.

“Well, we hope you’re feeling better now,” Willow said, giving Luz a look of understanding.

Thankfully for Luz, no one brought up what had happened that morning the whole time during lunch. However, Luz’s good luck would be up at the end of lunch since after Willow and Gus hurried off to their classes leaving Amity and Luz alone together. Since they had their next class together, Amity decided that now would be a good time to talk about what had happened.

“So, Luz, about this morning….” Amity started as she clutched her books close to her chest and looked down, seeming almost shy.

Luz tensed, ‘Oh no… Quick Luz, find something else to talk about.’  She thought as she looked around for something else to talk about. Luckily for her, a flyer happened to catch her eye. “Oh, look, Amity, the library is looking for more student volunteers!”

“Huh? Oh yeah, I did hear about that. Something about wanting to give students more opportunities.” Amity said as they continued to walk to their class.

“Well, why didn’t you tell me?” Luz asked, tilting her head to the side.

Amity gave Luz a shy smile and looked to the side. “Well, I know you’ve had a lot to deal with lately, and I didn’t want to bother you…” Amity said with a shrug.

“I would love to help out there! I would be surrounded by books, get to know more about the way things are on the Boiling Isles, and you know, I would get to be close to you.” Luz gave Amity a soft smile.

Amity looked at Luz and turned a light pink giving the human her own small smile. They stayed in a comfortable silence for a few moments before Amity decided to speak up again. “Anyway, about this morning-”

“Well, here we are! Let’s get to our seats before someone steals them.” Luz said, cutting Amity off as she grabbed one of Amity’s hands and dragged her to their seats.

As the class went on, Luz could feel Amity glancing at her often, and Luz tried to focus on what the teacher was saying and did her best not to look at the green-haired witch beside her.

It felt like forever before class was over with, and when the bell screamed, Luz packed up her things before she turned to Amity, who was frowning at her.

“Luz, I really want to talk to you about what happened, but it feels like you avoiding me….” Amity said, looking down at her hands as she fidgeted with them, a frown still on her face.

Luz felt her heart clench at the way Amity looked at the moment. She looked so much smaller, and like all the confidence in her body was gone. Luz sighed before she gave her an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry… We can talk about it after school if you want? I know this nice quiet clearing in the woods not too far from here. We can talk there, so nobody ends up listening in.”

Amity’s frown turned into a small smile, and she seemed to relax a little. “Yeah, that would be nice. I’ll meet you at the front steps after school.”

Luz nodded. “Okay, I’ll see you there. Anyway, I better get to my next class. See you later, Amity.” Luz said with a smile before running off.

‘I should have guessed that avoiding talking about what happened with Amity wouldn’t work. Of course, she would want to talk about it. It affected her just as much as it did me. I’ll just have set my own feelings aside so I can be a good friend.’ Luz thought to herself as she continued to make her way to her next class.

The walk to the clearing was more awkward than Luz thought it would be. Both Amity and her hadn’t spoken a word since they left the school. Luz wanted to say something to clear the tension, but nothing came to mind. Thankfully the awkward silence didn’t last much longer, and Luz let out a sigh of relief when they finally arrived at the clearing.

“Well, here we are! It’s nice, isn’t it? I come here when I just need some time to myself.” Luz said as she walked to the center before turning to Amity and giving her a bright grin.

Amity returned the smile with a small one of her own. “Yeah, it seems like a quiet little place. I can see why you like to come here.” Amity looked around a little bit before she walked to join Luz in the middle. “Anyway, Luz, can we finally talk about this morning?” Amity asked, looking directly into Luz’s eyes.

Luz tensed as she saw the way Amity was looking at her concern clear in the witch’s eyes. The human let out a sigh and tried to relax as she answered Amity. “Yeah, I guess we should talk about it….”

Amity nodded before turning to look out into the clearing, “Well, I wanted to tell you that I know that you didn’t mean to….” Amity trailed off, blushing slightly, “Kiss me, and I’m sorry that Boscha made you do that. Especially since it was your first kiss.” Amity finished as she gave Luz an apologetic smile.

Luz looked at Amity, surprised, before looking away and to the trees in the distance. “I’m not,” Luz said honestly.

“What?” Amity asked, shocked and confused.

“I said I’m not sorry. I’m not sorry about Boscha making me trip and kiss you. I’m glad you were my first kiss…” Luz turned to look into Amity’s eyes and gave her a sad smile as she took one of Amity’s hands into hers and squeezed it.

“Why would you be glad?” Amity asked, confused.

“Well, I know you like someone already, but I was so happy when I realized that we had kissed that I just couldn’t be upset about it, and that’s because….” Luz trailed off and took a deep breath while Amity squeezed Luz’s hand as if to encourage her. She couldn’t help but smile at how good of a friend Amity had been to her.

‘And you’re probably going to ruin that friendship because of your stupid feelings, but you already started saying something, so you might as well just be honest.’ She thought to herself as she let go of Amity’s hand but still faced Amity.

“I couldn’t be upset because I love you, Amity.” Luz squeezed her eyes shut and balled her hands into a fist by her side before continuing. “I wanted you to be my first kiss, and even though I knew you had a crush on someone already, a part of me wanted to be your first kiss too. I know that’s selfish and such a bad thing for a friend to wish for, but I couldn’t help it. I just-” Before Luz could finish her sentence, she felt something cut her off. Luz’s eyes shot wide open as she stood there in shock as she realized what, or to be more exact, who had cut her off.

Slowly Amity pulled away and gave the still in shock human a soft and shy smile, her cheeks a deep red now. “Sorry, it was the only way I could think to get you to stop talking,” Amity said with a slight giggle.

“Huh?” Was all Luz could manage to squeak out as she felt her cheeks grow warmer.

“Luz, I’m happy you were my first kiss. It wasn’t exactly how I planned for my first kiss would go, but it was with the person I wanted it to be with, so I’m glad, and to be honest with you, I was a little happy to be your first kiss too.” Amity said, looking down and then back up shyly.

“But… what about your crush? Wouldn’t you want it to be them?” Luz asked as her brain tried to process what was happening.

“It was with her, Luz. You’re my crush. I love you.” Amity said as she gave Luz the brightest smile she had ever seen the witch give.

Luz felt her cheeks grow warmer. “Really?” She said, her eyes shining with hope.

“Yes, Luz, really.” Amity giggled as she felt herself be pulled into a sudden hug and twirled around.

After a moment, Luz put Amity back on the ground and pulled away to look into her eyes and shyly asked with a smile, “Soooooo, does this mean we’re girlfriends now?”

“I mean, if you want to be, I wouldn’t be against it,” Amity said as she pushed a piece of hair behind her ear shyly.

“Yes! Wow, Amity Blight is my girlfriend!” Luz grinned and pulled Amity into another hug before pulling away again to ask. “Oh, and one more question?”

“Yes?” Amity asked, curious.

“Can I, maybe, kiss you? You know, since our first kiss was kind of an accident and our second one, I was kind of in shock during.” Luz said nervously as she ran a hand through her hair.

Amity let out a small laugh before nodding and saying, “Yes.”

And with that, Luz put a hand on Amity’s cheek, closing her eyes as she leaned in. Their lips met in a short and sweet kiss, but to them, even if it was a little awkward, it was perfect, and when they pulled away, Luz couldn’t help the grin that had returned to her face.

“Wow, that was much better than the first time.” Luz couldn’t help but say.

Amity nodded in agreement, and just as she was about to say something in return, her scroll buzzed with a message from Emira asking her where she was since it was getting late. With a sigh, she gave Luz an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry, my family is apparently wondering where I am, so I better head home.”

Luz shook her head. “No reason to apologize. I should probably head home too.”

“Yeah, I’ll see you tomorrow, Luz,” Amity said with a wave as she turned to leave before Luz grabbed her hand and turned her around to give her another quick kiss.

“See you tomorrow, Princess,” Luz said with a wink and grin as she let go of Amity’s hand.

Amity blushed a bright red, nodding before waving bye to Luz and running off in the direction that they had come from.

After a few minutes, Luz decided it would be a good time to start making her way back home to the Owl House, a smile on her face the whole time she thought about her girlfriend, Amity.
