Chapter Text
Sirius was lying vacantly on his bed, staring at the blank ceiling thinking about nothing in general. The wind outside was whooshing and the leaves on the trees rustling. He always had a tough time falling asleep at night. This problem had haunted him ever since he was born.
He thought about his friends and his family. Mother had told him that half breeds and mudbloods were thieves who stole their magic and wanted to hurt them and blood traitors were filthy cowards who allowed them to do so.
After getting sorted into Gryffindor, he had met Remus who was half blooded. He was the least scary person Sirius could think of. In fact he looked like an innocent angel to Sirius. Who could be scared of Remus Lupin with his soft golden brown curls and sparkling green eyes and tender smiles?
He smiled stupidly at that thought.
Maybe, mother wasn’t right. Perhaps, he could get her to meet Remus and James and Peter! Then surely she would understand! Then maybe, they could spend their holidays together! He sighed and hoped he could convince mother and father about muggleborns and halfbloods being nice.
He heard shuffling on the bed next to his- Remus’ bed. He watched quietly as Remus stepped out of the bed. “Remus?”, he whispered softly. Remus stopped right in his tracks and stared at Sirius’ figure blankly. “Sirius?”
“Where are you-”
They were interrupted rather rudely by James’ loud snores as he muttered in his sleep, “Gryffindor won.” Even Peter stumbled in his bed and looked at James, he rested his eyes on a standing Remus and too sleepy to say anything lay back in his bed and closed his eyes.
Sirius and Remus giggled silently at that.
"Where are you going?”, Sirius asked again.
“Common room.”, he whispered in the dead of the night. Without any explanation, he tiptoed outside the dorm. Unable to sleep anyway, Sirius followed him. After going down he saw a couple already lying by the fireplace, their hands woven with each other. Remus was sitting on a couch in the corner tracing patterns on his lap thoughtlessly.
Sirius joined him on the couch. “Can’t sleep?”, he asked. Remus nodded. Sirius told him about his insomnia and how he couldn’t sleep at night as well. Turns out Remus could sleep properly during most nights. “I just miss Mum.”, he pursed his lips into a soft smile. “D’you miss your mummy?”, he asked in his thick Welsh accent.
“No.”, Sirius confessed. Mother was a bit harsh on him at times, plus he couldn’t have as much fun in her presence as he had with James, Remus and Peter. “Your mum’s a muggle right?”, Sirius filled the silence.
“Yeah.”, Remus smiled fondly, “I wish she was here.”, he sighed, “I can’t sleep without her.”
“Why?”
“Because she always hugged me while I was sleeping and then we would listen to music and talk about Richard Burton and Audrey Hepburn and then she would tell me stories and then I would sleep.”, he reminisced. Sirius did not know a lot about the music Remus heard, Sirius only ever heard piano tunes and he hardly thought they were great options to listen to.
“I could hug you!”, he offered. Remus looked truly miserable and he was ready to do anything to help him out. Remus looked at him with an amused expression on his face. To prove his point Sirius made Remus lie on the couch and slipped behind him and held his arm firmly around Remus’ tummy.
“Better?”, he asked.
“Yeah.”, he could hear Remus smile.
They talked a lot that night. Remus told him about muggle music and a man named David Bowie who Remus admired a lot. He also told Sirius about different films and actors. Sirius loved listening to Remus talk so passionately about something.
They were both of the same height but Remus a tiny bit shorter than him. He had turned around now his face was buried in Sirius’ chest. Sirius tried to ignore how fast his heart started beating when Remus did that. He held Remus’ fingers in his hands as Remus’ eyes closed softly and he fell into a deep slumber.
He looked at Remus sleeping peacefully, his scars glistening in the light of the fire. Sirius looked at Remus and smiled at the picture of calm and serenity. He bit his lip and planted a messy kiss on Remus’ forehead and ignored the amused glances of the two older students who had been watching them intently and fell asleep with an angel in his arms.
