Hi Mr. Godot!
So, I’m dating Franziska, right? Prosecutor von Karma? She’s an international prosecutor, which I’m not entirely clear on what it means but I know it’s something really cool and I THINK it means that she can prosecute things in any country, which is REALLY cool!
Anyway, I finally, FINALLY convinced her to watch Steel Samurai with me! Honestly, I thought I’d get NICK to watch it before her. But but BUT! She was all, “Very well, Maya Fey, I’ll watch it if you so insist, but not a word of this to my foolish brother. I shall never hear the end of it.” And I keep my word, I’m not telling Prosecutor Edgeworth, but she didn’t say anything about you and this is way too funny to keep to myself, because…
She liked it! I mean I think she related a whole lot to the Evil Magistrate, which is really funny because Miles wrote an entire slow burn fanfiction projecting onto the Evil Magistrate oops I’m not supposed to tell anyone that. Uh, well, it’s probably fine, there’s a LOT of slow burn Steel Samurai fanfics out there now. I’m writing one! Or trying to. It’s… not as good as it was in my brain but I think I just need more practice writing in general.
It’s really, really funny that I got FRANZISKA VON KARMA to watch Steel Samurai before I got Nick to. Anyway, once you get out of prison, we’re marathoning Steel Samurai and Pink Princess. Maybe Nickel Samurai too, it’s short and the lead actor was a MASSIVE dick but what little bit of the show there was before it was canceled was really good.
Maybe I’ll be able to convince Nick to watch Steel Samurai if literally everyone else likes it. His daughter likes it, his sister likes it, his somehow-not-boyfriend-yet likes it… it’s really not that hard, come on! Just give it a try, Nick, don’t stay stuck in your narrow-minded cultural assumptions!
Anyway, hope you’re doing well,
Maya Fey
Hey Godot,
Trite here. I’d like you to know that my daughter saw me writing this, demanded an explanation as to why you were calling me that, and now SHE’S calling me Trite. Well, she’s calling us both Trite. I think I need to have a quick chat with her about what that word actually means…
Okay, nope, she knows, she’s just being a little shit, of course she is. She’s a good kid, Godot. So high-energy it’s kind of terrifying, I don’t know HOW she balances school and magic but she DOES somehow and she manages to excel at both? Like, are kids these days just all really high energy? Are kids in general really high energy, was I just a weird outlier?
Was I really high energy too and I just forgot it? I’d better call Edgeworth. Maybe Larry if I can’t get a straight answer out of Edgeworth, though Larry is also… Larry. Love the man but it’s about a fifty-fifty shot that he’ll answer or he’ll get sidetracked telling all about his latest ex.
But yeah. Hi from me, hi from Truce, hoping we’ll get permission to visit again sometime soon.

Hi Mr. Godot!
So, spirit channeling. It’s very fun to do if you can do it right, because like… you just nope out of reality for a hot minute while the spirit takes your place. Kinda like death but without the commitment, or making everyone (myself included) very sad.
It is a LOT less fun when there are all these REGULATIONS and RULES and I’m sure most of them are probably here for a reason but why THIS ONE? Why do I have to channel in the stupid motheaten traditional channeling robe when I’ve already got to wear the regular spirit medium robes at all times (inside the village, anyway, they can’t stop me when I’m visiting Nick and that is one thing on the list of things to change once I’m the new master) when it’s super thin, it’s always really cold in the channeling chamber for some reason, and I like not freezing to death! I really do!
Actually, the village elders really don’t like me dating Franziska either, but their attempts to put their foot down there lasted about two days. Those two days consisted of a whole lot of caffeine, a fair bit of making out on Nick’s couch, and eventually Franziska pointing out loophole after loophole to the point where the elders eventually gave up and conceded.
I wonder if she’d be willing to help with the traditional channeling robe too… After all, this can’t possibly actually BE Mystic Ami’s robe, it’s old but it’s not THAT old!
Hope you’re doing well,
Maya Fey
Godot, I am losing my MIND this is so fucking funny and I should NOT be laughing this hard but also I can’t NOT laugh at this. At least I managed to keep it in until we were out of the school parking lot.
Anyway, so it’s Truce’s last year at her elementary school, right? She graduates pretty soon, but more importantly… so, you’ve definitely heard about the whole Dark Age of the Law thing, blah blah blah, OOOH false charges OOOH false evidence it’s not like that hasn’t been a thing and it’s just more obvious now…
But look. So, the name Wright’s… somewhat well known at the moment. Coupled with Phoenix, a few of the other parents at her school REALLY don’t like me and that kinda extends to their kids not liking Truce.
So one of these little shits decided that he was going to get Truce expelled. By starting a fight. In the middle of the hallway in full view of the teacher. Truce fought back, naturally, and she’s suspended for a couple of days but THAT little shit IS expelled. Right before he was about to graduate, too. Idiot.
Anyway, it was going to be a week but I managed to talk down the principal (I’m rather proud of that) by saying I was going to make sure Trucy understood the full extent of her actions.
Then I took her out for ice cream, because I am proud of her for defending herself. We’re gonna work on nonviolent ways to de-escalate things for the future, but hell, I’m not punishing her for fighting back.
She’s a good kid, Godot. I don’t know what I did to deserve her.

Hi Mr. Godot!
How’s your day been? Mine’s been spent dealing with the landscaping company that maintains Kurain Village, because those idiots thought they could pull one over on me even further than they had already APPARENTLY been doing so to the village for like… twenty years? Don’t really want to think about the implications of that one.
But hey, having quite a few friends and family members who are or were lawyers pays off BIG-TIME. They won’t be trying SHIT in the future (and if they do, I wasn’t bluffing about dating a prosecutor!)
Glad to hear things have been going alright. Had no idea so many prosecutors wound up in jail for murder, but yeah, this Blackquill guy seems pretty decent. Ask him if he’s a Steel Samurai fan pretty please? I bet I can smuggle in some DVDs for him (and YOU because you! Also! Need to watch Steel Samurai it’s SOOO good.)
Best wishes,
Maya Fey
Godot, I really need to stop sending you letters to scream about the shit my daughter gets up to but also, you said you had a laugh over the last one so what the hell, why not, maybe you’ll have better advice than literally everyone else I’ve talked to.
So. My daughter. She’s just started performing at a new place, it’s called the Wonder Bar (and that pun is absolutely intentional, I asked) and before she did, she asked me for my permission to try out some new tricks.
I was like, yeah, sure, alright! You’re not going to do anything dangerous, right? And she swore up and down she wouldn’t, so I okayed it (in writing, because once a lawyer, always kind of a lawyer I guess) and then, well. I wasn’t able to come to her first few performances, which she seemed a little TOO okay with and now. Now I know why.
Two words: Magic. Panties. She’s grandfathered them in now, she can’t remove them and I. How do I explain to her that it doesn’t matter how innocent it is when she does it, nobody else in that bar is going to see it as anything approaching innocent, and she is THIRTEEN, Godot, oh my god.
She’s honestly probably more put together than I am, I should cut her some more slack, but also… I’m worried. I’m going to make sure she’s got some people on staff she can trust in case something happens, and make sure she knows exactly what sort of image people are going to get from her new magic panties trick, and… then let her decide, I guess.
Fatherhood’s hard, as it turns out. I don’t think I’m the best at it, but I owe it to her to keep trying no matter what.
If you’re wondering what she uses her magic panties for: it’s like pulling things out of her hat, but instead of her hat she uses magic panties because she wanted to be original, and I really, really don’t think she considered the implications of that. God.

Hi Mr. Godot!
Glad you and Simon enjoyed the DVDs! I am not going to question how you were able to watch them, some mysteries are not meant to be solved. (I AM super curious though.)
As for what’s going on in life… oh, y’know, same old, same old. I am on the verge of throwing hands with the elders as usual. This time it’s because dammit, Pearly deserves to get to actually go to high school! And she WILL be laughed out of there if she goes in her spirit medium robes, but of course it’s SACRILEGIOUS and I swear to Mystic Ami and the Holy fucking Mother herself if I heard the word sacrilegious one more time I will commit an actual murder. I’d get away with it too, nobody would believe I actually committed a murder after my last three acquittals.
Ehhh they’re not worth it. But Pearly is. And you know what? The elders never fucking leave Kurain anyway. If we’re really careful and if Pearly still wears her spirit medium robes on field trips, she can probably change on the way to and from school.
Great, that’s one problem solved! Now to make sure Pearly knows not to slap anyone in school no matter how much they deserve it…
Thanks for being a rubber duck,
Maya Fey
Godot, I may have made a mistake in going ah, yes, Trucy and Pearls can go to the same high school, what could possibly go wrong?
Their chaotic energy cannot be contained. At least people have mostly forgotten about the name Wright—helps that I look a lot different these days than I did in my lawyering days. I’m not sure you’d recognize me, actually.
Maya’s telling me she got YOU into Steel Samurai before me, and honestly? Let me tell you a secret. I was really, really bored one day while Truce was at school, I couldn’t sleep, and it was my day off, so… I marathoned the whole series. I mean, it took me a couple more days but I did finish it eventually.
It’s so fucking funny to act like I still don’t know shit about the series. Like, I’m nowhere near as involved in fandom as Maya is (and I suspect Edgeworth is, though I can’t prove anything yet) but I do, in fact, know what she’s talking about.
It’s been almost three years now. I don’t think Maya’s ever going to figure it out. But I mean… come on, the show’s theme IS my ringtone for a reason. And that reason isn’t (just) because it came free.

Hi Mr. Godot!
This one might take a bit longer to reach you, but at least I’ve got lots and lots of practice writing letters now. I’m in Khura’in now! It’s really pretty, and really cold sometimes. A lot of times. I’m really glad I studied at least a bit of Khura’inese on Duolingo before heading over to complete my training.
Two more years, Godot. Two more years, and one measly little spirit channeling test, and then I’LL be the master and those change-hating elders will be the first to go. Actually, no, I won’t fire them—I’m not actually sure if I can do that anyway. But I will make them watch as I change up all the things they told me I couldn’t change, and I’ll make them watch as I fix everything wrong with Kurain whether they like it or NOT.
Speaking of spirit channeling—I’m kind of keeping it under wraps while I’m over here, unfortunately. Sucks, but like… only the royal family can channel spirits, and I don’t want to make things awkward, it’s for the best that they believe the Kurain Channeling Method is actually a hoax. At least while I’m over here.
Also, the people over here really, REALLY hate lawyers? I mentioned that my brother was one offhandedly, never making THAT mistake again. I’m going to tell the couple I’m staying with that he was struck by a lightning bolt from the heavens and keep talking about Nick by calling him my other, non-lawyer brother. Which is technically not inaccurate. He isn’t a lawyer anymore, though it’s still really weird to think of him as not being one.
I’m pretty sure I’ve known him longer as NOT a lawyer than AS a lawyer.
Fuck, now I’m getting emotional. I’ll wrap this up. But hey, hope you’re doing okay in there—I’ve only ever been in the detention center but that alone was… NOT great.
I’ll try to come visit you once I get back from Khura’in! I am going to take SO many pictures, this place is so, so pretty and—as long as you don’t mention associating with lawyers—everyone is so nice!
Until next time,
Maya Fey
Godot, we did it. We won. And now I’m sure you’re wondering, who the hell is this WE Trite’s talking about, and what the hell did he win? Oh, I’ll tell you alright.
Remember how I got disbarred? I couldn’t really tell you much about it, even in person, but the short version is, I was framed and I finally, FINALLY got the bastard. I could become a lawyer again if I wanted to!
Not sure yet if I want to. We’ll get to that. But yeah, if you see Kristoph Gavin in prison, and you have the opportunity to make his life difficult without, like, making yours more difficult? Bastard deserves it.
Also, I kind of have another son now? His name’s Apollo, he’s a baby lawyer and he’s actually Truce’s half(?) brother. Don’t tell either of them that, or… anyone that, actually, they do act very much like siblings already but I did kind of get sworn to secrecy by their mom who is apparently very much alive and I’m not breaking that promise.
But yeah, according to Trucy I just have very, very potent dad energy. When the hell did that happen?

Hi Mr. Godot!
So, holy shit, holy shit, holy SHIT! There’s this really cool show in Khura’in called the Plumed Punisher, and honestly it’s kinda a ripoff of Steel Samurai but also it’s really, really cool in its own right so how the hell can I complain? It’s about this mythological person, kind of? A god I think? Named Lady Kee’ra. She hunts down sinners and punishes them, and she is SO so cool.
I’ve heard that Global Studios is talking about there being an English dub of Plumed Punisher, and honestly, that would be even cooler! I’m getting much better with my Khura’inese, mainly because, y’know, I kind of live here now, but I still don’t understand everything, and it’s kind of hard to rant about how cool it is to my friends back home when literally NOBODY speaks Khura’inese.
I can absolutely send you a DVD if you want one though. They’re pretty cheap and the good thing about basically being here on scholarship is that the elders HAVE to pay for all my expenses. And they don’t speak good enough Khura’inese to tell that Plumed Punisher isn’t, say, a show about how to channel better.
I am SO going to write a crossover between Plumed Punisher and Steel Samurai once I’ve dragged more people into it.
Hope you enjoy it too,
Maya Fey
Hey Godot, I’ve got TWO baby lawyers here now. And I’m working on getting my badge back. Which is a terrifying thought but honestly… I think it’ll be good to be back behind the defense bench. As fun as it was to help Miles out with prosecution in Europe every now and then, it’s DEFINITELY not for me long-term.
But yeah, the newest baby lawyer (and I mean BABY lawyer, she’s EIGHTEEN and she’s already got her badge—I thought Apollo was impressive for getting it a year earlier than me) is named Athena. I know she got into law to save someone who means a lot to her? I’ve gathered that someone’s like, her uncle or something. She won’t give me a name, but we’ll find him, and we’ll figure things out. We’ve got time.
...which is a very good thing, because while she’s got a good head on her shoulders, she DEFINITELY needs some experience. So does Apollo, I think Truce and I might have sent him on a few too many grocery runs…
Anyway. Once I’ve got my badge back, you know what that means. We’re going to get your case looked at again. I know you said you’d be alright with death, but… I don’t think you deserve that, and I’m pretty sure Mia didn’t either. Only a couple more years now, but hey—a LOT can happen in a couple of years. Stay strong in there.
