Chapter Text
“There are thirty-three vertebrae in the human spine.”
Data says this matter-of-factly as he traces his fingers up and down your back. You lay unmoving on your stomach while he’s propped up next to you. His hands and the ambient drone of the ship lull you into a peaceful stupor.
“Thirty-three is also the atomic number of arsenic, which is a dopant present in many of my integrated circuits.”
You sigh and smile as Data’s particular brand of pillow talk ushers you gently into sleep.

“As I have stated previously, I am unable to use contractions.”
You swivel in your chair and pick up your PADD, typing quickly. “Are you familiar with ancient Ekaf? It’s a language that has many parallels to common.”
“I am unfamiliar with it.”
You turn your PADD so he can see what you’ve written.
Dohnt
“The word is pronounced just as ‘don’t’. Incidentally, it also means ‘do not’.”
Data’s head tilts as he considers the information. You continue.
“Could you please say ‘I do not understand’, but say ‘do not’ in Ekaf.”
“I dohnt understand.”
A look of surprise crosses his face as he realizes that it sounds as if he spoke using a contraction. Just as quickly, his brow furrows.
“Ekaf is ‘fake’ backwards,” he says.
You smile. “Are you ready to learn more?”
He nods eagerly.

In lieu of saying your name during orgasm, which he doesn’t experience, Data says your name every time he solves a difficult problem.
None of the crew has caught on yet.
