Work Text:
Throwing on his jacket, Keigo headed off for his nightly patrol. It was going to be a warmer night. That’s one of the best things about this time of year, at least he didn’t have to freeze his ass off while flying around the city.
Although the night was warm, the air itself was crisp as he flew through the skies, the rush through his wings felt good. This was one of his favourite parts of nights like this, being able to feel the wind blowing through his feathers like this. It was energetic, giving him the boost he needed to get through the rather boring parts of his patrols.
Nothing of note happened in the next few hours that passed, just like he assumed it would go. He made his way through the normal route, exactly like every other night he’s on patrol duty. Only, halfway through his rounds, Keigo spotted someone. Whoever they were, they were standing alone and on the edge of a building.
Concerned, he swiftly flew down to the figure. Landing right behind the man, the only sound to be heard was the flapping of his wings, making a soft swish as he got closer. “Hey, look I think you should step away from the ledge.” He spoke in a calm voice, hoping the presumed man wouldn’t do anything drastic.
“Oh? Why should I do that?” The man on the ledge spoke, before turning around to face Keigo. His features obscured by the darkness of the night. “Afraid I’m going to fall pretty bird?”
Hawks rolled his eyes at this statement. A little annoyed he was so worried about the man that’s acting like this is all some big joke. “Look, I’m on the clock right now, how about we skip whatever you’re doing right now and I just fly you down to the ground so I know you’re safe.”
“Aww is the pretty bird worried about my safety?” The man practically purring as he spoke. “Here’s the thing birdie. No one’s watching you, they’d never know if you were here talking with a lowlife like me.”
“First of all, that’s not the point. Second, stop calling me that.” He huffed, feathers ruffling as he did. Maybe coming down here wasn’t the best idea. Hawks really should have just left at that point, he knew that. But there was something about this man, pulling him in, making him want to stay longer. Perhaps it was the mystery of the whole situation.
“Instead just… Call me Keigo ok?” He was a bit hesitant at first but felt it wasn’t right for this man to call him by his hero name. Maybe it was just because it was late. The Commission told him not to go around telling everyone his name. But then again, who was this man going to tell?
“Keigo? What a pretty name for such a pretty bird” The man took a few steps towards the hero. As he got closer, Hawks was finally able to see his face in the dim light of the moon. He wasn’t what he was expecting, but the blonde wasn’t disappointed, more shocked than anything. He hadn’t expected terrible burn scars all over his face. They looked quite painful as well.
The man was young, at least from what he could tell. His hair was spiky, and almost ashy looking as if it were dyed with the coals of a fire. Besides the burn marks on his face he was rather attractive, for someone who looks as though they haven’t taken proper care of themselves in years. The man's closet didn’t seem to be in any better shape either, they were tattered and charred in some areas. Most likely due to the same thing that caused his scars.
“I thought I told you to stop calling me that?” Keigo huffed again. He wanted to leave just then and there, but seeing the man's face only made him more curious as to what his deal was.
“Right Right, sorry.. What was it again? Oh yes Keigo.” The smirk on his face grew, seeing what the hero would do next.
He asked a question, a simple one. But seeing as how this night was going he bet the answer would be anything but that. “And what would your name be? The mystery is simply killing me.” Hawks added at the end, trying to get his cool back, as well as keep as much control of the situation as he could.
After the man told him his name, it was Touya. He commented how stupid it sounded, but the man merely laughed at that. Confused, Hawks questioned the man, wondering why what he said was simply so funny. The man; Touya, didn’t reply, instead he continued on with the conversation. Playfully teasing Keigo as he did.
The two spoke like that for another hour or so, joking back and forth, as if they were old friends catching up. They also touched on their childhoods, but neither wanted to fully open up. Leaving that conversation for another time.
Stretching, Hawks stood up from the edge of the building the two were sitting at. “Look Touya, this has been fun. But I really need to get going now. I still have a job to do.” The taller man stood up as well. Towering over him as he did so.
“Sorry I can’t let you leave.“ Panicked, Hawks was about to interject before Touya continued. “Not unless you promise to come back again.” At that he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
“Sorry hot stuff, but I can’t make any promises. Though I’ll see what I can.” Touya looked pleased with the answer as he turned around, heading towards the exit at the other end of the roof. His last words before disappearing were “See you around pretty bird”
Smiling, Hawks took off into the night, the cool air blowing through his hair once again as he made his way through the city, watching out for any suspicious activity. Seeing as nothing of note happened, Keigo made his way home. He’s decided that he’s found his new favourite thing about nightly patrols.
