A Boy, a Dog, and a Bedroom Floor

Summary:

Adam did not frequently clean his room.

It's like havin' to tidy up people's bedrooms for them, he’d said the day before, making an analogy to why ruling the world really wouldn’t be all it was cracked up to be.

You never tidy up even your bedroom, Pepper had pointed out in return, accurately.

And somehow, now, the words seemed stuck in Adam’s mind.

Notes:

For the prompt "Bedroom."

Work Text:

Adam sat on his bed, shoulders hunched, chin in hand, scratching Dog’s ears, and considered the problem of his bedroom floor. To be precise, he considered the theoretical construct of his bedroom floor, since the floor itself had been obscured from sight long enough that its existence was at this point a matter of faith more than of evidence.

Pepper’s observation was of course entirely true, and its truth had never been a source of any concern to Adam before. If anything, his sheer talent in the art of not tidying up his bedroom tended to be something of a point of pride for him. Few could rival his proficiency at not tidying; even Brian’s room was no real match for the messiness of Adam’s, and the others of the Them didn’t even come close.

But now… well. Here Adam was in his room now, him and Dog, grounded for who knew how long, and nothing much to do other than think about things that Adam would really prefer not to have to think about right now.

He had no interest in tidying other people’s bedrooms. But maybe it would be interesting, for once, to try tidying his own. Just as an experiment.

Decision made, Adam got off the bed, set his shoulders, and called his loyal Dog to his side. And, together, they embarked on an expedition to discover the color of the bedroom carpet.

Notes:

Fear not: We know from canon that the carpet is, in fact, ultimately discovered. ;)
