Chapter Text
Tim was Red Robin, wasn’t he.
One of his boyfriends was the vigilante that he had been crushing on for years.
He wondered if Conner knew about Tim’s nightlife, sometimes he felt like his two boyfriends had some kind of secret. He wasn’t sure if he was just seeing things, being insecure about his first ever relationship while Tim and Conner had already dated other people before they got together.
He didn’t really know how to ask though, he could go up to either of them and say ‘hey does Conner know that Tim’s Red Robin?’.
That likely wouldn’t end well.
Bernard didn’t think asking would be a good idea at all.
He should only ask if he had proof of Tim’s second job.
But how to get that proof?
The million dollar question.
He wondered how Tim had even gotten into the business.
The other Robin’s had been adopted by Bruce, but Tim didn’t join the Wayne family until after his vigilante career had started.
Bernard could just go to Tim and ask him.
Or he could mess with him.
He was definitely gonna mess with him.
He smirked.
-
Tim couldn’t help but feel someone was watching him.
He couldn’t see anyone on the surrounding rooftops, but the feeling wouldn’t go away.
He was concerned that Ra’s was back, and it was a ninja hiding from him.
“Red, can you get to the docks and help Hood?”
Oracle’s voice crackled in his ear, “On it O, ETA 4 minutes.”
Hood hadn’t asked for help in ages, he was still unsure about his place after the whole incident with Dick after Bruce’s death.
Tim still couldn’t believe that Dick had arrested his own brother. He knew that Dick had a lot on his plate at the time but to send both Tim and Jason away?
Tim wasn’t sure he could forgive his eldest brother for everything that happened.
And Jason still hadn’t rejoined the family.
Tim understood, but he also worried about his brother.
Since he had actually asked for help he must be in actual danger, so Tim had wasted no time in throwing himself off the roof and down to the docks where Hood’s tracker was.
He had said 4 minutes, but he made it in 3.
He was glad for his haste, it looked like a trafficking ring that Hood was taking down had somehow gained access to some alien technology that they didn’t know how to use and were blasting away in Hood’s general direction.
He ran forward and knocked the gun out of one of the goons hands before launching into an attack.
Between them, they were doing a good job of holding off the traffickers.
It was going well, until Tim took a blast that tore a hole through his shoulder.
Before he processed what had happened, he was on the ground and the world went black.
-
Tim had fallen down, and appeared to have a hole in his shoulder. Bernard nearly cried out, but was able to suppress it to a whimper at the last second.
Hood (who Bernard wasn’t sure of the real identity of) was distracted on the other side of the warehouse, and the goon was heading over to Red Robin with a gun.
Bernard had to do something.
He ran forward and skidded to a halt beside his boyfriend.
Tim was unconscious, and the goon was still charging.
Bernard was not panicking, thank you very much.
He grabbed a batarang of Tim’s belt and threw it at the goon, he managed to land the shot on him, and then quickly turned to Tim’s wound.
He was a trained EMT, and always carried some medical supplies with him.
Moving quickly, he wrapped up Tim’s shoulder and started putting pressure on the wound.
Just then, Batman (probably Bruce Wayne) burst through the window with Robin (probably Damian Wayne) in tow.
Once they joined the fight, it was over pretty quickly.
He looked up as Hood approached, “Hey, thanks for helping Red. Lucky you were around.”
Shit, Bernard hadn’t really thought about how he’d explain his presence.
“Uh, yeah - uh, yes Mr Red Hood, sir.”
How very elegant of him, he was pretty sure his face was bright red.
Someone please kill him now.
He smiled at Hood, a very strained thing.
To be fair, Hood was very attractive, he definitely made the top five on Bernard's list.
Red Robin was number one, he always had been but even more so now that he had realised that it was his boyfriend behind the mask.
His second was Superboy, there was something about those muscles that made Bernard unable to look away.
Third had to be Nightwing, that ass was the stuff of legends.
But Hood took the fourth spot, Bernard sometimes wondered if he too was a meta human, those muscles surely had to be from some kind of divine intervention.
And now, Hood was staring down at him.
“What were you doing in the area?”
Batman’s growl had always been intimidating, and when it was directed at him Bernard felt as though he was about to die.
He smiled nervously, and then suddenly remembered that he had been asked a question.
“I was just out for a walk, sir. I heard some noises and came to see what was happening.”
After his explanation, Batman grunted, before scooping up Red Robin and hurrying away.
“Thanks for the help kid” Hood said, before strolling off in the opposite direction to Batman.
Bernard picked himself up and hurried off.
-
Tim woke up slowly.
He remembered getting hit by something, but since he couldn’t feel anything he figured he was on Batbrand painkillers.
That was a good sign, it meant he was safe in the Cave.
He dredged up his strength and opened his eyes, Bruce was sitting in the chair next to him, and Dick was pacing by the door.
“Sup guys.”
God his voice sounded awful, how badly did he sleep?
“Tim! You’re ok, that’s good. You had us worried for a minute there.”
Dick was hovering his hands over him, as if going to hug him but second guessing himself.
Tim rolled his eyes and reached up to hug his brother, but quickly aborted the motion when a sharp pain shot up his arm.
“Don’t move son, you took a nasty hit to your shoulder. You need to rest.”
He settled back down again. Maybe he should just go back to sleep, now that he wasn’t moving the pain in his arm had faded away.
Anything that needed to be dealt with could be handled by his family.
-
Tim had been attacked by someone after the Wayne fortune.
That was the official story.
Bernard internally sighed as Dick told him and Conner over the phone, Conner asked if he was alright, and was told they’d be able to visit soon.
Conner put a hand on his shoulder, and Bernard looked up to see a soft smile that he would never get sick of.
Conner was being reassuring, and guiding him through to the living room.
Bernard was still stuck on what had happened, he knew that being a vigilante was a dangerous job, he had patched up Red Robin before whilst on the job, but the implications of that danger had never quite hit.
He thought Tim was dead when he’d rushed forward in that warehouse, he thought his boyfriend had died right in front of him.
The bats were a great team that looked out for each other, but they couldn’t always be there.
They weren’t perfect.
Bernard could help, he had saved Tim’s life today.
He could definitely help out by patching Tim up on the field.
Before he went out though, maybe he should learn some self-defence first so he stood a better chance at winning any fight that he fell into.
And then with that he could potentially help Red Robin with any fights he got into.
If he was doing that though, maybe he should get a mask.
It would look suspicious if Tim Drake’s boyfriend started following Red Robin around.
He didn’t want to do things halfway though, if he was making a mask he should make an entire costume.
Before he did that though, he needed to start small.
“Hey Conner, can you teach me self-defence?”
