im not cuddly (he lied like a lying liar)

Summary:

Not that he was complaining about Etho cuddles. Etho didn’t really initiate any cuddling. He wasn’t a cuddler before they were dating, and he wasn’t one now that they were. Although, that raised the question he hadn’t considered earlier: What was Etho doing here?

Etho's not a cuddler, which raises quite a few questions when Bdubs wakes up with him next to him.

Work Text:

Bdubs was very, very particular about his sleep. He had one fan exactly a foot away from the foot of his bed, set to medium speed, angled just so so that when he was facing away from the wall, he could just barely feel the air. He slept beneath three blankets: a regular blanket, a weighted blanket, then his comforter. His comforter usually ended up kicked to his feet, though. He had three pillows, two for his head and one extra to the side. Not to mention his all-important stuffed animals that kept him company!

The point was, he and his bed were very well acquainted. Best friends, even. Nothing beat being cozy in his bed, and he knew exactly what to expect when he woke up every morning.

Which was why he was a little concerned when his alarm went off at six, as it always did, and he felt someone else behind him that had their arms wormed around him.

“Noo, since when d’you…”

He blinked, awkwardly craning his head behind him.

“Etho?” he whispered, and Etho tucked his head into his shoulder.

He hummed something incoherent, his eyes still solidly shut. Since when did Etho randomly show up in his room when he was asleep? He didn’t remember inviting him in. He clearly hadn’t done any work to get himself comfortable either, simply laying on top of his blankets like he hadn’t planned on falling asleep.

“Are you awake, Etho?” he whispered, rolling over so he was facing him.

Etho didn’t reply. His head sunk into the pillow, and he sighed.

He giggled, pressing a tiny kiss to Etho’s nose. Etho hummed in his sleep, his head inching forward the tiniest bit. Bdubs leaned down to pull the comforter up so Etho wasn’t just sleeping beneath nothing.

He sighed as the blanket was pulled up, haphazardly grabbing it. One arm pulled Bdubs closer, and the other pulled the blanket over his shoulders.

Bdubs hummed. He liked getting up just for consistency’s sake, but… He could sleep for another hour or two. He reached back for his phone to set another alarm for eight, and then settled in.

He woke up to Etho still holding him for dear life, although now he was much much closer. And significantly more trapped in place. Bdubs’ head was tucked beneath Etho’s chin, and Etho had thrown a leg over him.

“I should’ve left when I had the chance,” he mumbled.

Not that he was complaining about Etho cuddles. Etho didn’t really initiate any cuddling. He wasn’t a cuddler before they were dating, and he wasn’t one now that they were. Although, that raised the question he hadn’t considered earlier: What was Etho doing here?

Either way, Bdubs definitely had to get up now. He didn’t want to stay in bed until ten, what was he, some kind of heathen? Slowly, carefully, he detached himself from Etho’s deathgrip, and pretended he didn’t hear his barely awake mumbled complaints.

“Don’ leeaave,” Etho grumbled, weakly reaching a hand out.

Bdubs snickered, tucking the comforter around his shoulders. “I’ve gotta get up, Etho. We can’t all be like you and sleep in all morning.”

He huffed and rolled over, grumbling something unintelligible. Bdubs grabbed some clean clothing and left the room as quietly as he could—he’d change into his day clothes in the bathroom. He didn’t quite feel comfortable changing in front of Etho yet, even if he was asleep.

Bdubs set his bag of groceries on the kitchen table, shoving aside a few pans to make space. One of these days he was going to kill Etho for all the dirty pans he never cleaned—he loved him, he was a fantastic person, but he was the worst roommate he’d ever had.

“Oh, hi Bdubs!” Etho chirped, suddenly poking his head into the kitchen.

He jumped, knocking a dirty pan onto the floor in the process.

Etho giggled, picking it up and placing it back on the pile.

“You piece of—stop scarin’ me!” Bdubs snapped. “First you just appear in my bed, then you just appear behind me while I’m putting away groceries. Are you taking ninja classes or something?!”

Etho’s cheeks suddenly turned pink. “Oh, right, uh, I was gonna—apologize. For that.”

Bdubs blinked. “For what?”

“Um. Being in your bed?” Etho grabbed the eggs out of the grocery bag to put them away, conveniently turning his back to him. “I just—um. You know how I, uh, get like night terrors and really bad nightmares and stuff?”

Bdubs paused half-way to opening a cabinet. “Yeah? Since we were teens?”

Etho awkwardly cleared his throat. “Basically. Cleo got kind of—concerned? Okay so my sleep meds ran out, and I had a bad one and Cleo got worried when I woke up, um—screaming?”

“Oh.”

“So she told me I could just go sleep with her if I was having trouble. And I guess I wasn’t really awake, my body just did it—” Etho’s voice kept picking up speed as he spoke, his face progressively turning more red.

Bdubs tugged Etho into a hug. “Etho. Shut up.”

Etho blinked, stiffly hugging back. “I just—um. I didn’t want to—”

“What part of ‘shut up’ don’t you get? Shut up.” He reached up and kissed Etho, and that solidly stopped his mouth from flapping. “It’s fine. You can do that if you want, just know I get up at six every day.”

Etho rolled his eyes. “I go to bed at six some nights, Bdubs.”

Bdubs hummed, grinning. “I’ll stay in bed an extra hour.”

“Yeah right.”

He heard Ren’s door open, and Bdubs stepped away from Etho. “The invitation’s open, at least, okay?”

Etho nodded, stepping out of the kitchen. He’d catch Etho to talk about this more later, but for now he still had groceries to put away.

He glanced at the sink, and found another pot full of water simply sitting there. He sighed—he might as well do some dishes, too.
