Chapter Text
“You know,” Ranboo breaks the silence as the clock blinks past 4:27 am.
As the clock clink-blink-slinks another minute past 4, ha 4:44, make a wish. He kind of wished things made sense or maybe he didn’t? Either way he still-
“Yes?”
“Oh, right. You know he tried jumping out of the car when we drove past you guys?”
“Really.”
“Yeah-yeah, we had just been driving down the road, and he’d give me directions, just, out of the blue, while staring out the window, he’d blurt out a left or right, like- like he had just barely caught a glimpse of some- some fundamental understanding of the universe, and, if he didn’t share it immediately then it’d be lost forever. But it had- it had been awhile, and the radio had finally fizzled out so I was just talking then abruptly he’s shouting and trying to climb right out the car window.”
“Mm.”
“And! And, he would’ve done it too, that’s the thing right, like- I had to actually grab onto his jacket and he still continued trying to escape out the window and it was like he thought you would die or something if he didn’t get to you right that second. Haha-oh boy, he actually-he actually just glared at me so hard when I didn’t let him go and I only made him wait, not even that long, like maybe 30 seconds, and then, when I pulled in he jumped out and ran right in front of a car crossing the street- not even one glance, like you would think if there’s one thing that our messed up society teaches you it’s to look both ways crossing the street- right? Like, even I remember that?”
“…Did you really meet him only yesterday?”
“Um… I mean Yeah- he showed up at my hotel room and hugged me. And I just thought he was some, some friend I forgot about, you know?”
“You’re really that forgetful?”
“Well… yeah, that’s like my, thing.”
“But you know now, that you hadn’t met him before.”
“Yeah, or, or something like that.”
“And you were still willing to follow his ‘out of the blue’ directions to, what? Nowhere?”
“Well, you’re here aren’t you?”
“…”
