A Breath Away On Easter Day

Summary:

Slime had enough for 12 mines. If he could get enough time to make them before he left… It was perfect. They'd all be in one place. He'd find them all and round them up and blow them all up. It'll be a masterpiece of blood and egg whites everywhere. Mariana had just given him a ticket onto a train that led straight to his end destination.

"Fine. I'll go to your stupid egg event, mi amor."

"I thought I was not longer your wife?"

"That's gay dude." Slime replied.

Notes:

Woo!! I absolutely adored writing this entire thing. I would like to thank @kelwings on Tumblr for letting me use their au/prompt!! I will link it in the end notes because it does provide some spoilers for the fic contents.

Again thank you kelwings for allowing me to make this masterpiece!!

Tw/Cw for: qsmp lore spoilers in the very beginning (fic is mainly canon divergent)
I'm not really sure what to put down so just check the tags. Those'll probably do a better job than I could.

!!Mainly English with some Spanish bits!! Don't worry, a translation is provided

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Slimecicle broke when he watched the baby monitor. He replayed it over and over and over. It wasn't real. It couldn't be. Mariana would never do that. His bitch wife would never harm their daughter.

He replayed it again. It was too real. There wasn't even any way Mariana could've tampered with the footage. He watched with his own two eyes as his fucking bitch of a wife killed their daughter. His bitch of a wife killed their daughter.

He opened his inventory, grabbing the digital book that automatically updated with the daily tasks. It was fine. He'd be able to do them with his egg. His daughter. His JuanaFlippa.

He knew he was lying to himself. He knew he'd be the best father to her the next time he saw her.

"Feed the baby a food that starts with R? A food that starts with R?" Slime began walking in the vague direction of his house. "I've got a food–" An iron sword was drawn from his inventory, tip cutting a line in the dirt as he dragged it behind himself– "that starts with R. Revenge."

He picked up the pace as he continued to his house. To their house. It wasn't just his. It was his and JuanaFlippa's. He reopened the task book, "Go camping… Tell the- tell the baby a scary story?" He stopped before continuing his trek. "One day, papa woke up and checked Twitter. That's the scary story. That's the scary story."

He had just passed Bobby's castle when he stopped. He twirled the iron sword between his fingers. It made a small indent in the dirt. "You know what? You know fucking what? Accidents happen! Right? Misclicks happen! Misclicks happen!"

Slime continued walking, soon breaking into a run as mobs emerged from the depths of the surrounding forest. "I bet." He started as an idea formed in his head. "I bet that if no one had an egg. If no one had an egg– things would be so dire that someone would have to address it! Someone would have too!" He stopped on a hill as the sun rose, "I bet. I bet that the event would have to be cut off if there was a 'sudden loss' of many many egg lives.

They'd have to do a reset! They'd have to reset it and bring them back!" Bring my Flippa back… "'Cause they just- they couldn't- it- it couldn't- just- just end like that!? It couldn't just end like that! Right?" A manic giggle escaped him. No- no it wasn't a manic giggle. It was a normal giggle. Because he's okay. He's fine.

"They couldn't just let it end. And I know- I know there are powers out there. There are forces out there. There's my boy Little J, there's- there's my not so little boy Satan!" He stammered, tripping over his own words. "I know there are people out there. There are people out there that can change this! She's not dead. She's not dead!

It's not going to be a localized issue!" Slime cut himself off with a thought. He stopped in the forest, he could barely see his house above the trees from there. He opened his inventory and grabbed the recipe book. "How do I make mines? How do I make mines?" He muttered as he flipped to the 'm' section.

A wide smile spread across his face as he gazed at the recipe, "Oooh! That's easier than I anticipated!" He slammed the book shut but not before doggy-earing the page. "Just gunpowder and iron? What?" He laughed. It was too good to be true. He could taste the revenge on the tip of his tongue. Just a fingertips reach away. "A- a single one of those.. A single one of those is all it would take!" He put his sword away, "Is all it would take if everyone was in the same spot!

Let me ask you something, chat, dear voices in my head let me ask you something. Who's egg only has one life?" He asked. He'd stopped in front of the adoption center. For a moment he thought he could see JuanaFlippa standing in front of him next to Mariana. It wasn't real. Mariana was never there for him, for their daughter. And the fucking second he was he killed her. He murdered his precious huevo, his precious daughter in cold blood.

And sure it was true that Juana was kinda fucked. She got both of their shit eyesight. She's practically blind. She's allergic to near fucking everything in this godforsaken world. She still chose to be vegan. She was constantly going through an allergic reaction. But Juana was his daughter. He'd do whatever he could to make sure Mariana wouldn't harm her again.

"I'm not holding a fucking funeral chat!" He yelled when the voices wanted peace. They wanted her to rest peacefully. But she couldn't. She couldn't because– "'Cause she's not dead!" He went silent. His silent breaths shook ever so slightly. With anger. With grief. With guilt. "Who's egg has one life left. Fit's- Fit's egg? His egg has one life left? Is that true?"

He'd finally made it to the bottom of the wall. He'd walk up to his house. He'd go into her room. And she'd be there. She'd be there and she'd be alive. She'd be happy. Because she's not dead.

"Phil's and Fit's? Oh- oh 'cause- do you remember that Chat?" He asked as he ran up the steps. "Because Chayanne-" He cut himself off when he entered his house.

There was a Japanese Orchid planted on some dirt thrown on the floor right outside Flippa's hidden door. "This is the same uh.." He walked towards them, carefully holding one of the flowers in his hand. "These are the same flowers… That uhh…" He pulled the backpack off his shoulders and opened it. He dug through it before finding the same flower there. It was one of the few flowers Flippa wasn't allergic to. "That Flippa gave to me. And uhm… Yeah. Yeah I think- I think she'd understand.

I think she'd get it. She's a feisty one! She's a feisty one. Nothing could take her down! She's got a gun, she's got a taser, she's got all diamond armor. It would take a- take a fucking 'anti-miracle' to take her down!" He started smelting iron before looking through his chests. He didn't see any gunpowder.

"Do I have any gunpowder?" He questioned before finding very little gunpowder in his backpack, "Not enough." He shook his head. He then thought of something. It wasn't very likely but JuanaFlippa might have some gunpowder.

He pushed open the fake bookcase and shut it behind himself. This would be a win-win sort of situation. He was sure. He'd see JuanaFlippa up there, alive, and he'd find some gunpowder he could instead use to blow his wife to fucking smithereens!

He knocked on the trapdoor. He heard fast shuffling. He pushed open the trapdoor. See! He was right! He knew JuanaFlippa was alive! He- … saw Mariana. JuanaFlippa wasn't there. She wasn't there but his bitch wife was. He didn't even know if he could call Mariana his wife any more after what he did.

"Bitch?" He pushed himself up onto the floor and shut the trapdoor. "What the fuck are you- what the fuck did you do to our daughter!? To my daughter!? What the hell did you do!?" He yelled, pushing Mariana into the wall.

"Lo siento! Lo siento, mi amor!" Mariana said, "¡No quise matarla, lo prometo!"

I didn't mean to kill her, I promise! He read from the translator. "Didn't mean to kill her my ass! I trusted you, Mariana! You were- you have been gone since forever! And the day you- fuckin'- the day you come back you kill her!" He yelled. He turned away and blinked back any tears before Mariana could see. Mariana didn't need to see him vulnerable. Mariana didn't need to see him cry, period. He giggled, "You fucking killed her you motherfucker."

"I didn't mean to, Slime!" He defended.

"I want a divorce." Slime said as he walked back over to the trapdoor, "You're not the person I fell in love with."

"¿Qué?" Mariana whispered. "Slime-"

"Don't."

That's when they both got a ding on their communicators. It was from Badboyhalo. "The egg hunt is about to begin! Meet at Foolish's dragon :)".

"Egg hunt? What egg hunt?"

"Puede que nos haya apuntado o no a la búsqueda de huevos porque pensé que nos distraería de... todo." Mariana told Slime.

I may or may not have signed us up for the egg hunt because I thought it would distract us from... Everything. "An egg hunt? After you killed my daughter!?"

"I thought it would be good for our- our relationship!" Mariana moved so he stood in front of Slime and took his hands in his own, "¿Por favor?"

'I love you' he signed before leaving. Mariana rolled his eyes at what he thought was an insult and followed after.

"You were the one that married me!" Mariana stated. Slime had already made it out of the hallway though and didn't hear.

Slime grabbed the iron from the furnace, it had been sat in there long enough to have cooled off at least a little bit. He rushed over to the crafting table and grabbed the gunpowder he'd moved to his inventory.

"Slime? What are you doing?" Mariana asked as he pushed the bookcase shut.

"Uh- nothing! Nothing." He said as he crafted the mines. He shoved the mines into his backpack as Mariana walked over. "Let's go!"

Mariana checked the message again, "Foolish's base?"

"I- I don't know where that is-" Slime started, "I have like no fucking waypoints."

"Uhm," Mariana opened his map, "No se."

"So we both don't know?"

Mariana grabbed his communicator, '¿Dónde está la base de Foolish?' He typed.

Vegetta soon responded with cords. "Away we go!" Slime said, throwing one strap of his backpack over his shoulder.

"¡Vamanos!"

Yeah. Everything would work out fine.

----------------

Slime had looked what felt like everywhere around the starting point. How far had these stupid little eggs gone? Surely not that far right? He hadn't even been paying attention to the rules. They probably told them how far out the eggs were.

Slime turned left towards where he thought he heard a rustle in the bushes.

"Slime! ¿Qué estás haciendo?" Mariana asked.

What are you doing? He read from the translator. "I heard a noise this way." Slime motioned left, where he was headed as he turned around to face Mariana.

"Si escuchaste el ruido, yo también lo habría escuchado."

If you heard the noise, I would have heard it as well. "Well maybe you just can't hear well! Maybe all those days you spent not with your family affected your hearing!"

"You do not need to bring that up! I've already apologized!"

"When!? When did you apologize for leaving me alone to raise my daughter?"

Mariana fell silent. "It is our daughter, Slime! Not just yours! We are family!"

"No! I want a divorce and I'm taking custody of my child."

"¡No puedes tomar su custodia si está muerta, Slime!" Mariana nearly yelled, "¿Podemos dejar esto y buscar juntos como se supone que debemos hacerlo?"

You can't take custody of her if she's dead, Slime! Can we drop this and search together like we're supposed to? "Go your own way. I'm going left."

"It was probably just a conejo!"

JuanaFlippa loved rabbits... It was one of the few animals she wasn't allergic to. "If you don't believe me then go some other way." Slime shook his head and began walking off.

"Slime!" Mariana called but got no response. He sighed and went right. He was sure he'd be able to talk it out with Slime when the event was over. It was close to when it ended anyway. The event ended at sundown. They had maybe an hour and a half.

"You can't take custody of her if she's dead!" Slime muttered, mocking Mariana as he stormed away. "Yeah, because of you."

Slime continued to mutter swears and mock Mariana for everything he's ever done as he walked. He saw that the sun was starting to get low in the sky. It wasn't quite sundown yet. Slime really should've listened to the directions. He didn't know when this would end and if he'd miss his chance.

That's when he was really reminded of why he was here. It wasn't some stupid bonding time between him and Mariana. Even if it was, it had already failed. He'd gotten so off track and now he wasn't even sure whether he was near the starting point. If he didn't find his way back he'd miss his chance.

Then this would have all been for nothing. He'd have let Flippa down. She understood why he had to do this! It was for her! Why wouldn't she?

Slime stopped where he stood. He missed Flippa. He'd done all this- this planning because he wanted to avenge JuanaFlippa. He's come so far because he had to avenge JuanaFlippa. Yet the only thing he's done is want to deprive everyone else of their happiness. The thought to first kill Mariana had barely even crossed his mind.

He had just lost a precious chance to get one of them done and over with. He'd missed it. He'd already begun to fail Flippa. He couldn't risk failing her even more.

Slime turned to go back the way he came – if he's being honest he didn't even know which way was the way back – but stopped when he heard a rustle. An egg. He thought as he looked around to see which one it was. Slime pulled out his sword. He didn't want to wait any longer.

"Oh, huevo! I see you!" Slime grinned when he spotted the rustling bush. "I-"

Everything stopped. The iron sword slipped from his loosened grip and hit the ground with a thud. His knees buckled and almost gave out. He willed himself to stay upright. "JuanaFlippa?"

He saw the glint of the sunlight on her thick lenses. He smiled, "Flippa!" He called. The little egg ran further into the forest. Slime forced himself forward and chased after the egg. Following the glimpses of off-white shell or the glare of sunlight on too thick lenses.

"JuanaFlippa, wait!" Slime stumbled over his feet as he chased after her. "Flippa!"

That was his girl. That was his baby. His JuanaFlippa. He couldn't wait to hold her in his arms and twirl her around. He'd promise himself to never tell Mariana. He couldn't trust him knowing after what he did.

He'd been chasing her for a while now. It had past sundown but he didn't care. "Flippa?" Slime stopped and looked around. He couldn't see her. She'd disappeared. That was the moment he caught sight of the glint.

It felt as though time was meaningless right then and there. He was a breath away from holding his huevo again. A breath away from peace.

He knew she wasn't dead. He knew it! To think he doubted himself for a minute? He knew a funeral wasn't needed. He knew he'd have her back. He knew everything would be fine.

"Flippa, honey!" He called after the egg, "Papa was not built for physical activities!"

It was a failed effort to get JuanaFlippa to slow down. Though if JuanaFlippa wouldn't stop running then he wouldn't stop chasing.

She'd get tired eventually. Then he'd get to bring her home. Then he'd get to tuck her in. Then he could sing her favorite lullaby to her. Then he'd get to extinguish the fire in her room but leave one as a nightlight. Then he'd whisper goodnight. Then he'd get to go downstairs and lay down in his bed in the closet. Then he'd get to sleep soundly knowing his daughter was perfectly fine and asleep upstairs.

She had to.

"JuanaFlippa! It's getting late!" Slime said as he glanced up at the sky. It looked to be about 11 pm. He'd lost track of Juana at least 15 times by now. He thankfully found her again every time.

Slime stumbled as he narrowly dodged a skeleton's arrow. He didn't want to lose Flippa so instead of stopping to kill he just kept going. He knew it'd follow but he could outrun it.

There was another ping on his communicator. It wasn't the first he's gotten in the last while and he doubted it would be the last. He refused to check the messages. The messages could wait but his daughter couldn't.

The messages would be there forever and his daughter wouldn't. He couldn't and wouldn't go back to being a bad parent. He promised himself the second he watched his bitch ex-wife kill his daughter that he'd be the best parent ever. That he'd make up for everything he did wrong.

"Slime?" He heard a voice yell. It didn't matter. It wasn't Flippa. He kept running. "¿Dónde estás? ¡El evento terminó hace horas!" Where are you? The event ended hours ago!

Slime didn't slow down, "Flippa?" Slime smiled when he noticed her stopped behind a bush. The moonlight glinting off her glasses as she probably sat there giggling to herself. "Flippa!"

"No! Not Flippa! Mariana." Mariana jogged up to Slime once he spotted him. "Slime, where the fuck have you been?" Mariana asked.

Slime turned around. He wasn't sure what he expected from his ex-wife. Though it certainly wasn't for him to be looking properly pissed off. He wasn't even sure why.

"You fucking dumbass! ¡Te he estado buscando por todas partes!" I've been looking everywhere for you! He briefly reads before deciding to tune out most of everything. "The event has ended, Slime! You need to get back to the damn house. It is late and you will end up dead out here." Mariana scolded.

Slime turned around. He was ready to run after JuanaFlippa and leave Mariana behind. He was ready to be reunited with his daughter again. He began to run towards the bush he last saw JuanaFlippa hiding behind but she wasn't there.

"JuanaFlippa?" He asked nobody in particular. He looked around the forest. There was no glint of light on too thick glasses. There was no glimpse of off white egg shell to be seen.

There was nothing.

"Flippa?" A pained whisper leaves his lips. "Mi huevo?"

Slime brings a hand up to cover his quivering mouth as a whimper escapes. Water welled up in his eyes, rendering himself practically blind. Flippa was practically blind too. "Flippa..?"

Mariana stopped his rant as he saw Slime freeze. He hadn't even noticed Slime moved from where he found him. His eyebrows furrowed with concern when he heard a choked cry come from his partner. "Slime?"

"No, no, no, no, no…" Slime muttered as his knees buckled and he fell to his knees. He grasped the grass with his other hand and pulled it from the earth, tossing it to the side. "Flippa..!" He cried. Tears, warm and salty, began cascading down his face. His face was red and eyes bloodshot.

Mariana rushed over to Slime the second he fell. "Slime?!" He asked and knelt down beside Slime. Mariana saw the tears streaming down his husband's face and pulled him into a hug.

Slime didn't bother protesting the hug. Instead he melted into it. He buried his head in Mariana's shoulder while Mariana held him close.

"Shhh, mi amor." Mariana whispered. "Estás bien…" You're alright…

Mariana didn't know if he wanted to believe what he said. He'd never seen Slime in that state before.

That night was the first night Mariana had even seen Slime cry.

Here is the link to the post! https://www.tumblr.com/kelwings/715949673382330368/qsmp-au-that-takes-place-right-after-flippas?source=share

It also does probably provide context for things that might've not made sense! In the comments it also does talk about the timeline change.

I would also like to note this fic has been the first ever fic I've made that made my friend cry. It's been done!! 🎉
