Work Text:
When Peter found out his aunt May had made a good friend at her new knitting club he was happy for her. They had moved to a new town due to Peter’s new job as a scientist in one of the local research facilities. Hence, he felt a bit guilty that his aunt had to leave everything behind just to move in with him, he insisted he could do just fine on his own but despite his excuses, she knew he could not, so three months later they were finally established at their brand new home in their brand new neighborhood.
Peter was thankful to the company he worked at for providing them with a place to live, or else they probably wouldn't have been able to afford the move.
Just a few weeks after they arrived there May had already found ways to keep her busy outside of her job and house-caring responsibilities, a knitting and sewing club with other older women from the town. After just a few weeks her bond with one particular lady had stood out, a woman everyone called Blind Al, it seemed they both got along despite having loud no-bullshit personalities.
Peter felt a little weird when she told him about how they also related to having grandsons/nephews who were terrible at taking care of themselves and also didn't have many friends. May had spent a good two weeks talking Peter’s ear off about how wonderful and nice Althea’s grandson was despite the hard exterior and weir humor he often had.
“He is single you know? And he likes boys too”- She teased, sometimes he regretted ever coming out.
“May please, I'm sure someone as great as you make him sound can find someone way better than me”- Peter complained every time but his aunt was stubborn if she was anything.
Due to those kinds of talks, he was a little suspicious when May insisted he stay at her club's next meeting which would be at their house- “It would be nice if you got to know my new friends”- She said.
“That's all, right? Just meeting your friends?”- Peter questioned and his aunt made a whole show of him doubting her so cruelly.
“I just want them to meet my lovely nephew who I'm so proud of, that's all, naturally if you don't want to I won't force you”- She said looking sad, Peter knew it was manipulation in its purest form, he knew.
“Fine, I'll stay”- Yet he still fell for it. He would be damned if he ever willingly disappointed his aunt, even if it was just pretending.
The next day he had helped her clean up the house and set up some chairs and food before the ladies started arriving, there were more than he expected, he tried to greet them all but some of them he didn't see coming in.
As he was greeting a small group of grandmas his aunt appeared again and grabbed him by the arm suddenly, she started moving them towards a specific part of their garden where chairs had been put at May’s insistence despite being out of the area where the meeting would be, he should have been more suspicious then, now his spider-sense was screaming at him to run.
“Oh my looks who is here”- May said fake surprised- “Hello Althea”- She greeted the old white-haired lady sitting next to a wall of a human being that was turned around so he couldn't actually see the person.
“Well Hello to you too May”- The lady greeted just as fake- “I just wanted some fresh air, how nice running into you here”- She said like they weren't at their own house, at this point the fake conversation was just mocking.
“I'm just here with my nephew Peter, the one I told you so much about”- She patted his shoulder.
“Hi ma’am, is a pleasure to meet you”- Peter greeted politely despite the fake conversation the two ladies were having.
“He sounds lovely, I'm sure you would like my grandson, Wade say hi to Peter”- She insisted to the young man on her left. When he turned around Peter could finally take a good look at him, he had scarred skin covering completely his well-sculpted face, wore a big hoodie despite the sunny sky above them, and had the most striking blue eyes Peter had ever seen, not scary bright blue as he had seen on some other people but a dark blue that reminded him of a calm ocean.
“Wade this is Peter, Peter this is Wade”- May presented them both and quickly got a hold of Athea’s arm and started making her way back to the house- “He works for a lab and is single and doesn't have many friends”- She said and winked at the man as she was leaving.
“May!”- Peter whined but she just ignored him and laughed, after making gestures for him to sit down she completely walked away.
“Uh, hi”- Peter greeted awkwardly when she disappeared from view. He realized that the stranger had not said a single word yet.
“Hello”- Wade seemed uncomfortable too it made Peter feel a little bad for him.
“Good I'm so sorry for her, you probably don't even want to be here”
“Oh please don't be sorry, this is probably Al’s fault anyways if anything I should be apologizing to you”- Wade tried to comfort him- “You probably don't want to date someone that looks like me”- He tried to make a self-deprecating joke to lighten the mood but Peter didn't like it.
“I don't think you look bad”- Peter said embarrassed.
“You don't?”- He seemed surprised and gestured to his scared face- “May commented you used to wear glasses maybe you still need them”
“You have beautiful eyes”- Peter confessed, not mentioning the muscular body that was making him nervous in fear he might burst into flames.
Wade seemed taken aback by the compliment- “...Thanks”
“So, uh, my aunt mentioned you liked superheroes?”- Peter asked shoving his foot in his mouth, of course, he went and started with the one topic he should be avoiding.
“Yeah! Um, I really like Spiderman”- Wade said a little sheepish.
“Oh”- Peter felt a little weird with the compliment that was for him but had not to be said to him- “That's cool, I didn't think I would find Spiderman supporters in a town like this”- He quickly realized the subtle implication of ' a town like this’ could be taken and corrected himself in a splutter- “I mean- Just that the Daily Bugle is really popular in this parts so I thought-”
Wade laughed a little and tried to calm him down- “It's alright I get it, it is really popular here and some people don't like the spider guy very much but I do”- He said proudly- “I would even call myself his number one fan”
The words made Peter even more embarrassed- “That’s cool”- He said shortly.
“Do you like superheroes too? May had mentioned you guys used to live in Queens, I know Spiderman usually fights over there”- Wade continued talking.
“Yeah, I do, I like Spiderman but my favorite has always been Ironman”- Peter admitted.
“Aw shucks that tin can?”- Wade actually seemed disappointed by Peter’s answer and stopped talking for a little like he was having a mental debate on what to say next.
“I have been starting to like Deadpool as of late though”- Peter said quickly trying to keep their conversation alive and take Wade out of his own thoughts.
“Huh?”- Was all the other said.
“I know most people don't like him for his violent past, I used not to like him too, but I really think he is trying to be good now, everyone deserves a second chance you know?”- Peter explained with a smile, he knew for a fact that Deadpool had almost completely stopped killing people in this past few months.
“Right…”- Wade seemed more shocked than disappointed now so he guessed that was good but he was still not as chatty as he was before.
“Do you not like him?”- Peter asked shyly.
“I guess you could say it's complicated”- He answered truthfully making Peter giggle a little.
“It's weird to say you have complicated feelings with a superhero”
“Yeah, yeah I guess it is”- Wade acknowledged and after laughing with him for a bit said- “It must be nice having such a supportive family”- He commented obviously talking about May and their little setup.
“Yeah but she can be too supportive sometimes, when I first came out she tried to set me up with my neighbor's daughter because we were both gay”- Peter shared making Wade laugh loudly.
“At least she tried”- He noted between laughs. Peter agreed laughing too.
“Misses Althea seems really nice too”- Peter observed.
“She is a pain in my ass, but yeah”- Wade accepted with a little fond smile.
They had continued talking for a few hours, occasionally May would pop out with snacks as a subtle not so not-so-subtle way of checking on them. When everyone had left and Peter and Wade had made their goodbyes after exchanging numbers he went back into the kitchen to find May cleaning some tea cups.
“You were actually right, Wade and I kind of clicked, he is very nice”- He said reminiscing on the evening they had spent together with a little smile. May made a cheering sound.
“I knew it, I knew you two would like each other!”- She celebrated already texting who Peter assumed was Al and after adding a little more quietly- “And you know, Wade also has that kind of special hobby”- She winked making the Spiderman webshoting gesture.
“He what”
