Work Text:
Tsukasa was one of the many people on Earth who loved Christmas. One, it was a holiday, a break from school. Even a world future star like him needed a break from school once in a while! Then, there were the presents on Christmas. Who didn’t love presents? Then came the most important point of all: he got to spend time with his family and friends. That was what he looked forward to the most on Christmas. (Well, besides the fact that his troupe would be performing a special Christmas show at Phoenix Wonderland, too. He loved performing.)
A week or so ago, Rui had offered for everyone to stay over at his place on Christmas, after dinnertime, promising that he’d clean up his room so that there’d be space for them to sleep. Of course, Tsukasa had agreed, along with Emu and Nene. After all, as a future star, there was no way he could disappoint his dear director!
Thus, that was how he’d ended up outside of Rui’s house, a bag full of his essentials slung over his shoulder. He checked his phone for the fifteenth time, wondering why Rui hadn’t opened the door to invite him in yet. He’d called at least five times already!
Eventually, Rui opened the door. He was wearing a sweater that was a vomit green color. The sweater had a creepy looking snowman design on it as well. It was hideous, to say the least. Well, at least he was wearing plain black jeans. Knowing Rui, the pants’ design could be ten times worse.
Tsukasa grinned, pointedly ignoring the ugly sweater his boyfriend was wearing. “Rui!!” he exclaimed, hands on his hips. “It is I, World Future Star Tenma Tsukasa!” He struck a pose as he said the last bit.
Rui chuckled. “Fufu!~ Hello, Tsukasa-kun. It appears that you are the first one here, since you’re early. Would you like to come in first?” he offered smoothly, stepping aside to make way for Tsukasa to enter.
Tsukasa nodded enthusiastically. “Of course!! Thank you, Rui!!” He walked past Rui and into the Kamishiro household, head held high.
Inside, Rui’s mother and father were sitting on the couch, watching a movie. Tsukasa politely greeted them, which they returned with kind smiles. He then walked past them to head to Rui’s room, with Rui trailing close behind.
When the blonde was just outside of Rui’s room, just as he was about to open the door, Rui stepped past him and took his hand. Tsukasa was a little puzzled. Before he could open his mouth and ask why he’d done so, Rui turned the door’s knob to open the door. The door swung open, revealing his genuinely tidy room. His signature cheshire cat-like smile turned mischievous.
“Tsukasa-kun, look up,” he chirped happily.
Tsukasa obeyed his orders, his face turning pink and his eyes gradually widening when he noticed what was hanging above his head. He dropped his bag on the floor.
Hanging from the doorway, above his and Rui’s heads was a mistletoe, swaying in the light breeze.
Oh, Tsukasa hated Kamishiro Rui. So much.
Flustered, Tsukasa glared at Rui, who was smirking at him mischievously. “Y-Y-You!!” he yelled.
Rui blinked innocently, his long lashes flattering along. “Me? Did this lowly director do something?” he asked.
“I- You- How could- Rui, you-” Tsukasa stammered, way too embarrassed about the whole situation to even speak properly.
Rui took a step towards Tsukasa. “What is it, Tsukasa-kun? Fufufu~”
Tsukasa groaned, rubbing his forehead. “I-I can’t believe you, Rui! Why would you do something this cheesy?!...”
Rui smiled innocently. He took another step towards him, and placed his hands around Tsukasa’s waist, causing the other to redden even more. “I have no idea what I did, though, Tsukasa-kun~” he replied casually.
Tsukasa jabbed a finger at the mistletoe. “That! You put a mistletoe there on purpose!!” he accused.
Rui looked up slowly. Then, he shrugged. “It’s just a piece of decoration for the occasion, Tsukasa-kun. Why are you so worked up over everything?”
“S-Stop teasing me!!” Tsukasa rolled his eyes, a habit he’d picked up from Nene. “You did this on purpose!! I know you did!!”
“Oya? Tsukasa-kun, it’s not very future star of you to accuse your director of such a lowly act,” Rui said with a smile.
He didn’t get a chance to continue before Tsukasa reached up on his tiptoes and pressed their lips together, his hand cupping the younger’s cheek. Rui smiled against the kiss, humming slightly as he pressed them closer together, melting into the kiss. Tsukasa was as red as a tomato at that point. When he pulled away after a bit, he frantically looked around, checking to see if anyone had been watching them.
“Could you two do this in private?!” Nene’s voice came from right next to him.
Startled, Tsukasa whirled around to face the girl with dull light green hair. She had a disgusted and horrified look on her face. Next to her was Emu. Her eyes were currently being covered by Nene’s hand. She was asking, “Nene-chan? What is it?? Why don’t you want me to look??”
Tsukasa immediately burned a crimson red, pushing Rui away from him. “We weren’t doing anything!! Nothing you should see!!” he cried out, feeling embarrassed. How did Nene and Emu even get in?!
As if reading his mind, Nene said, “Emu and I were waiting outside for Rui to open the door for us, but he didn’t respond to my texts. So, I had to dig out the spare keys he gave to me so that we could enter. I knew I should’ve waited outside…” She slowly removed her hand from Emu’s face.
Emu looked a little confused. “Tsukasa-kun? What were you and Rui-kun doing?” she asked, curious.
Tsukasa yelped at the question. “Nothing, nothing!! This future star swears we weren’t doing anything!!” he shrieked.
Nene gave him an unimpressed look while Rui giggled.
“Fufu~ Are you very sure, Tsukasa-kun? Because-”
Tsukasa clasped a hand over Rui’s mouth. “SHHHHH!!!” he hissed, giving him a glare with no heat behind it.
Thankfully, Rui remained silent, a knowing smile still on his face. Tsukasa pointedly ignored the smile as he extracted his hand from Rui’s mouth. “Alright,” he exclaimed with a grin. “Let’s go into Rui’s room so we can do the present exchange!”
When Rui had suggested the sleepover, Emu had chimed in with the idea of them exchanging gifts to each other, like a Secret Santa thing. Tsukasa had gotten Nene’s name after he spun the wheel that Emu made on her phone. Thus, he bought this video game for her Nintendo that she’d been mooning over for the past few months. She couldn’t get the game herself since her parents had told her that they wouldn’t be buying her any more games due to her having too many. She had been deeply upset by the news. Therefore, Tsukasa decided to be a good friend by purchasing the expensive game for her as her Christmas gift. That was what a future star would do for his friends!
They all entered Rui’s room, with Tsukasa ripping off the mistletoe before Nene would be doomed with having to kiss her pink-haired crush before even confessing to her. Rui pouted at that, but didn’t say anything. As promised, Rui’s room had genuinely been tidied up, not a single mechanical part in sight, except for those in a large cardboard box in a corner of the room.
Tsukasa dropped his bag onto Rui’s couch and took Nene’s wrapped present before sitting in a circle with his troupe mates, to Rui’s right and Nene’s left.
Emu grinned at them. “Now, it’s time for the super Wonderhoy presents exchange!!” she exclaimed excitedly.
Tsukasa cleared his throat, turning around to face Nene. “NENE!” he shouted right into her ear, making her wince and glare at him. “THIS FUTURE STAR HAS BOUGHT THIS FOR YOU AS A GIFT!! HE HOPES THAT YOU WILL LIKE IT!!” He thrust the gift into her hands, watching with a smile as she unwrapped the present and saw the Nintendo game. Her eyes widened the slightest bit as her hand flew up to cover her mouth, which was hanging open. She turned to face him.
“This…This is…”
Tsukasa grinned. “What do you think? HA HA HA! Do you like this future star’s gift to you, my Diva?”
Nene seemed to be in shock for a while more before she gave him a soft smile. “...T-Thanks,” she whispered, so that only Tsukasa could hear her.
Tsukasa’s smile softened slightly. “No problem!”
“Tsukasa-kun!” Emu chimed in, holding out a paper bag with his name written on it with a yellow glitter pen. “This is for you!!”
Tsukasa had expected that his gift would be from Nene. Guess he guessed wrong. He wasn’t complaining, however. He grinned at Emu. “Thank you!!” he exclaimed, taking the gift with two hands. He carefully opened the paper bag, extracting a whole book of star stickers in it. They looked expensive, that was for sure. Tsukasa let his jaw drop slightly.
“Emu, this…this is amazing!!” he said in wonder, opening the book and peeling off one of the stickers to examine it closely. Rui and Nene leaned over to get a better look as well.
“Hehe! Do you think it’s a Wonderhoy present, Tsukasa-kun?” Emu asked, eyes shining brightly.
Tsukasa nodded his head vigorously. “Yes!! Of course!!” he replied without hesitation. “This future star thanks you deeply!!”
Emu giggled happily.
Rui cut in, presenting a robot that looked like a little kitty in front of Emu. “This is for you, Emu-kun, fufu~” he said.
Emu looked at the robot in wonder. “What does it do?” she asked, poking the robot lightly in interest.
Rui then produced a controller. Tsukasa leaned in to see that there was only one button on the controller. “If you press this button,” Rui told Emu, pressing the button to demonstrate. A second later, pink glitter shot out of the robot’s mouth, right into Tsukasa’s face.
Nene snickered as Emu loudly praised Rui for being able to make such a “Wonderhoy, Kirakira!!” robot, while Rui gave Tsukasa a mischievous smile. Tsukasa rolled his eyes at him, wiping away the glitter.
As he did so, Rui finished with, “If it ever runs out of pink glitter, come find me, and I’ll add more for you.”
Emu took the robot and controller. “Thank you, Rui-kun!!” she exclaimed cheerily.
“Fufu~ It’s alright~” Rui replied modestly, waving it off.
Nene cleared her throat, and all eyes fell on her. Tsukasa noticed that there was what appeared to be a book resting in her lap. Silently, she gave the book to a confused Rui.
“T-This is for you, Rui,” she said shyly.
Rui opened the book slowly, eyes filled with curiosity. Tsukasa and Emu crawled closer to him to take a look. Tsukasa’s eyes widened when he saw the contents of the book.
The book turned out to be a scrapbook that Nene made. Upon closer inspection, Tsukasa could see that she’d pasted photos of them as a group together in the scrapbook. There was a picture of the troupe before they went to America, plus the moment when Tsukasa had tried to cheer the girl up using the English language, only to make her cry and having Rui save him from further embarrassment. Then, there was also the time when all of them were stuck in the island. There was also the time where they collabed with Arcland. It had been an enriching experience for all of them, though there was still something Rui was hiding then… There were many more memories, and they were not all related to things they did as a troupe. No, there was also the Kamikou Festival, then the school trip… How did Nene even get a picture of the school trip?!
When Tsukasa turned to Rui to see his expression, he found Rui’s eyes to be unusually bright. A small smile was on his face as he flipped through the scrapbook.
“Uhm, I…I know it isn’t much,” Nene said then. “But, I hope this helps to show you that you do have friends you can trust and rely on, and that not everyone in this world hates you.”
Rui slowly turned to Nene. “...Thank you, Nene,” he whispered, a warm smile on his face as he set the scrapbook next to him.
Nene rolled her eyes, though a small smile was playing on her lips. “Ugh, I already said it isn’t much… Also, don’t be such a crybaby…” she muttered.
Rui giggled. “Fufu~ Always such a tsundere and a diva, eh, Nene?”
Nene’s eyes widened as a pink blush appeared on her cheeks. “I-I’m not a tsundere!” she exclaimed.
Tsukasa and Emu both laughed at her in unison, while Rui continued to tease her. In return, Nene grabbed a pillow from Rui’s couch and began to chase him around the room. That only made Tsukasa and Emu laugh even harder. Tsukasa could barely even breathe at that point.
As he stared at his friends’ smiling expressions, he wondered how he was so lucky to be able to befriend them. How did he end up becoming Emu’s and Nene’s friend? How did he end up dating someone so kind and amazing and brilliant as Rui? How did he end up here? He truly felt like the luckiest man alive. His smile turned fond as he gazed at his friends, lost in his thoughts.
After a while, Nene finally stopped chasing Rui around the room. Panting, she muttered, “You never exercise…how the hell do you even run that fast?”
Rui shot her his signature smile. “I have my ways,” he chirped as he tried to catch his breath as well.
Tsukasa exchanged a look with Nene. Obviously, he was good at running because he used to run away from the security guards in Phoenix Wonderland! He shook his head in disappointment.
Once Rui and Nene finally settled down, Emu immediately suggested, “Let’s watch a super Wonderhoy Christmas movie together!! It’ll be super duper fun!!”
Nene deadpanned, “Christmas movies are so goddamn cheesy.” Still, she didn’t seem to disagree with the idea, obviously going along with whatever her crush wanted. Tsukasa suppressed the urge to laugh at her.
Tsukasa grinned. “Sure!” he boomed, striking a pose. Emu laughed at his antics, while Nene rolled her eyes. Without him noticing, Rui, who was sitting behind him, gave him a fond smile.
“Fufu~ Anything is alright with me, Emu-kun~” Rui told Emu with his signature smile. “I’ll grab my laptop, hold on…” He stood up, lightly pecking the top of Tsukasa’s head first, though, which caused Nene to fake-gag. He then walked over to his desk, the scrapbook in his hands. He set the scrapbook on his desk and took his laptop before sitting back down, next to Tsukasa. He placed the laptop in front of Tsukasa.
Emu squeezed in next to Tsukasa, and Nene sat down next to Emu. Giggling, Emu let her head rest on Nene’s shoulder, causing the gray-haired girl to flush slightly. “What movie are we gonna watch??” Emu asked curiously.
Rui opened Netflix on his laptop. “We’ll find a movie to watch, don’t worry, Emu-kun, fufu~”
After twenty minutes of scrolling around Netflix, accompanied by Tsukasa and Nene occasionally bickering, they finally settled on three movies to watch together that “didn’t look too cheesy for my eyes,” according to Nene. Rui hit the play button, and the four of them relaxed to watch the movie. (Except for Nene. Tsukasa could practically hear her heart racing. It was hard to suppress the urge to bark out a laugh at her.)
Halfway through the second movie that they were watching, Tsukasa heard someone softly snoring. He turned to face Rui. Rui was lying in Tsukasa’s lap, fast asleep. He looked more peaceful and pretty when he was asleep. How cute. Tsukasa smiled softly as he pressed his lips to Rui’s forehead.
He half-expected Nene to make another fake-gagging sound, but when she didn’t, he turned to check on her and Emu. He was surprised to find the two of them asleep as well, with Emu leaning on Nene. Emu had a smile on her face, and Nene was murmuring something in her sleep, like she was dreaming.
Tsukasa smiled at the two. Nene would definitely have a panic attack in the morning. He snickered softly at the thought of Nene having a gay panic attack, as Saki would say. He turned around and grabbed the blanket that was on the couch, then covered the two girls with it. He paused the movie, and gently shut the laptop so that none of his friends would wake up.
The blonde gazed at his friends warmly. “Goodnight, guys,” he whispered. “Merry Christmas.” He then closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, with a warm feeling in his chest.
