Chapter 1: Dorms and Admissions
Chapter Text
Hyrule University practically forced the Champions to attend. They had cited that it would undoubtedly boost applications to the school if the Champions themselves attended.
On top of that, they didn't even care that the Champions didn't have much in the way of high school education. They passed enough school tests, and they were the damn Champions, after all. Who in the right mind would turn down the heroes who saved Hyrule?
Exactly. They wouldn't, and that's what the Champions were doing there.
The heroes were given a custom-made dorm unit on the top floor of one of the units. It consisted of three quite large rooms, which quite honestly, would constitute more as hotel rooms or apartments. Whatever. The contractors were more than happy to rip shit up on the top floor to make a special unit for the Champions. It was a damned honour.
You'd see two doors standing in the hallway, facing the Champions' rooms.
On the left, was the "Man Cave," as it was called by the other students, which was shared between Link, Daruk, and Revali. Each one had his own personal, custom bedroom, complete with a full bathroom. Aside from those, there was a small living room and a kitchen, with one door leading to a really large balcony that stretched to the ladies' dorm.
On the far right was an end unit shared by Mipha, Urbosa, and Zelda. It shared a similar layout to the guy's room but took advantage of more open space.
In the middle, between the two rooms, was what the Champions called The Commons. It was only accessible via the voe or vai rooms, not the hallway. This made sense. It was a private lounge, made for the Champions.
The Commons consisted of a room about the same size as the apartment units, save two bedrooms. On the back left wall, there was an airy loft accessible via a metal spiral staircase. Artificial vines wrapped around the loft's railing.
Under that was a TV and some seats, creating an area which was used as a gaming lounge. The TV had been placed in one of those dual TV shelf-cabinet things, and little nicknacks of the Divine Beasts, as well as a small picture of the Champions and a ceramic music box, sat on the shelves.
On the front corner was a significantly smaller kitchen, complete with a large table and a half-full fridge. (Food was mostly kept in the residential rooms. Sometimes, other students who didn't have the luxury of a full apartment, which was pretty much every other student living in the dorms, would come over and ask to cook in the Champions' Commons.)
Overall, the room was cosy and had everything the Champions needed to relax, study, and host events.
In addition to the tables, bean bags, and even a small elevated jungle gym, the Commons was home to two full bathrooms and one guest room, which Mipha had requested to convert into a home infirmary, where she could practise her nursing skills.
Like the residential rooms, the Commons was also connected to the common balcony connecting the two units.
----
Mipha decided that she'd major in nursing. Unfortunately, for the civilians of Hyrule, Zelda's father decided that the government should not subsidise healthcare. This, therefore, created a hefty fee for those who had to get treatment. The Zora princess didn't like this. She refrained from using hospitals whenever possible, and instead donated money to organisations that helped low-income individuals pay for their medical bills. Her goal was to get a medical degree. She didn't need it. Any job she wanted would hire her regardless, which was due to her social status, but she didn't think this to be very fair. Why should some people get more opportunities than others due to the bloodline they were born into?
Zelda wanted to major in biotech. She wanted to explore the world around her and figure out how to use technology in ways that could help society. At the same time, she wanted to learn more about nature and research the flora and fauna of Hyrule...
Chapter 2: What only one of us could expect to see at this time of day...
Summary:
One morning, around 5 or 6 AM, Mipha is woken up by the familiar voices of her allies. She knows these screams. She's been in this situation before, and she's always been able to help.
Now, she knows what she has to do, and she needs to take action before things get too out of hand.
Chapter Text
The weather had been nice out the night before, and Mipha had been awake with a mysterious insomnia. Was this, perhaps due to stress? Hormones?
She decided that she would leave her bedroom window open to get some fresh air and let in some ambience from outside, and that seemed to do the trick.
However, this tranquillity didn't last until she would've wanted it to, and she would be awakened by the last thing that anyone, including her, would want to deal with first thing in the morning.
Around 5:30 AM, Link and Revali exited the dorm through the balcony and headed towards the grassy field outside of the building. They would have a duel.
A duel.
At 5:30 AM.
Revali only agreed to it because the street lights lining the sidewalk provided enough light for him to be able to see, while still giving him a considerable challenge. It wasn't dark enough to deem him blind, for say, but it wasn't bright enough to remove the handicap of him having shit night vision.
Another reason for this time was that there would be fewer bystanders to potentially be injured in the crosshair of the fight, and given the proximity to the dorms, if, and when one of them was inevitably injured, Mipha would be close enough to reach them within minutes.
Link would try to hop in one of Revali's updrafts, which was a challenge. The idea was that he'd fly up with his paraglider, and somehow knock his opponent out of the sky.
This, of course, failed. Revali had the advantage in the air and could evade Link's measly attempts at aerial attacks. More often than not, it was Revali grounding Link.
Link had the advantage on the ground. He'd have to wait for Revali to get close enough to the ground to hit him, but Revali was aware of this and spent as little time as possible close to the ground.
Things began to get very intense, and it became more of a game of keep away. More so, it was Revali seeing how long he could stay in the air, and Link waiting for him to come down.
It couldn't go on forever, though. Eventually, Revali managed to hit Link several times but got too cocky and flew lower. This allowed Link to stab him in the leg.
However, it wasn't over yet.
"Is that really all you've got?" Revali exclaimed. He landed for just long enough to wrap a cloth around his leg to slow the bleeding, becoming airborne as quickly as possible. "Ugh, how'd he manage to hit me?"
"Good. You're still able to fight too." Link readied his sword.
The duel continued for around ten more minutes. Both combatants were seriously injured, but neither was willing to quit.
Revali dove down at Link, his talons clashing with Link's shield.
The knight attempted to hit the archer but barely missed.
And then, it happened. Time seemed to slow down as the two drew in for their final attacks.
Link lunged in with his sword, and Revali loaded three more arrows into his bow, and the both struck...
