Deacon's girlfriend?

Summary:

Deacon is acting suspicious lately so Chase decided to investigate. But what comes next is something that shocked him.

Notes:

I wrote this in a wimp because I've been having the worst writers block I've ever had so it might be bad but I just came up with this headcanon and I just HAD to write about it

Chapter Text

Chase has been noticing that Deacon has been more on his phone lately than reading his beloved romance novels. At first he thought he finally got his shit together and actually started studying but this theory of his went out of the window when he saw Deacon grinning and chuckling on his phone. His next thought was that he turned digital, but this way he couldn't hide himself slacking off. Also Deacon always says stuff about how holding the book and the smell makes for a better experience.

He tried asking Deacon If something is happening but he just shrugged it off telling him to not be snooping in his business.

Chase really isn't the type to care If Deacon has a secret girlfriend or something, but he also started slowing down on reading the books in which they went in together which meant that they didn't have any notes! That's when Chase decided to investigate Sherlock Holmes style (or more like Scooby Doo).

Deacon really didn't take his eyes off his phone. Chase tried asking him to borrow it since that usually works but he refused to. He asked the keys If they knew something but Bronze wouldn't answer because in his words "It would break the bro code". He was happy that he and Deacon had started to get along but now it just annoyed him.

So in a last resort he waited till Deacon took a shower, snuck in and took his phone while he was hearing Deacon sing some shitty love song.

'He really needs some singing lessons' Chase thought as he slowly got out of the bathroom and unlocked the phone in his hands. Deacon uses his own birthday as his password which is not really affective when it comes to protecting your personal information so now he must pay the price.

Chase isn't as dumb as he looks. He immediately went to the settings of the phone and looked to find the app with the most screen time. To his surprise, he saw a chatting app on number one with an average of 7 hours daily. For people their age with a normal social life it would be considered normal but for Dorkin? He didn't have any friends, at least that's what Chase thought. When they went to school together he would always be sitting on a bench with a book in his hands. And now he is chatting with someone for 7 hours a day?

Chase didn't have a lot of time. After Deacon got out of the shower they had to go straight into a book. Buddy had also started to bring someone with him. A blond dude with the hero key. The first time Chase saw him was when he tried to kiss him to "follow the story" resulting in a kick where the sun doesn't shine. He swore he saw Buddy chuckle at the scene. He didn't pay much attention to the new guy after that even though he usually is his "prince", he doesn't even know his name! He was too preoccupied with fighting with Buddy. Chase has noticed before, but especially the older fairytales don't make the two heroes spend much time together. Like Cinderella, he spends more time with his "stepmother" than with the prince.

That's when the phone buzzed with a notification popping up from the chatting app. The sender didn't have a name, his contact info was just "🧸". Chase didn't want to open it because the other person would see that the message was read and so would Deacon. Instead he opened the app and stood there with all his contacts. There was one with him and Chase, a group chat of his college classmates and at the very top...the messenger with the teddy bear emoji.

Chase's eyes widened with what the message was saying and dropped the phone down to the floor.

The message read "Are you ready for a story?"
