"Do you have a blue crystal?" Rodney asked, frustrated.
Miko scrabbled through the debris on the floor of the small room.
"I thought I saw...." she reached out. "Yes!" Then she looked at it closely. "It has a crack in it."
Rodney held out a hand. "If it's in one piece, it's better than the shards I have," he admitted.
She handed him the crystal and Rodney carefully slid it into place.
Rodney held his breath as the system started up.
There was a small, annoying whine that stabbed Rodney's brain and made the incipient headache bloom into existence. Rodney rubbed his forehead.
"What's that noise?" Rodney demanded.
"Maybe there's a mechanical device that needs oil or grease?" Miko hazarded.
"There shouldn't be..." Rodney started, then sighed. "Of course there is." He reached to the panel next to where they had been working and pried it off the wall.The whining noise increased. "There's a pump of some sort." He frowned. "Why a pump here? We're well above the waterline..."
"Maybe it's not water?" Miko suggested.
"If this is a sewage station, I'm going to be pissed," Rodney groused.
Miko gave a small giggle.
"But that doesn't get us out of this room,' either," Rodney pointed out.
"Rodney. What did you do?" Radek called over the communicator. "Where are you?"
"Radek! Oh, thank god!" Rodney said. The radios had not worked once the door had slid shut. "We're just outside power station K27 and stuck in a... closet of some sort..." He listened, hearing nothing. "Fuck. I hope he got at least some of that."
Miko grinned. "Now that Radek knows we need help, he will send your Colonel after us."
Rodney grunted. Although the glare of disappointment would be bearable, since it would be followed by thank-god-you're-not-hurt sex.
"While we're here, we might as well check this pump out," Rodney sighed.
