“Hurry up.” Sam said, as she watched Constantine placing the final touches on the summoning circle she’d talked them through.
If they were too late— they wouldn’t be too late. But if they were, which they wouldn’t, Sam would personally end them all.
Tucker was off to the side as were some more League members. She still didn’t really trust them, but they were trying to dispel the Anti-Ecto Acts. And, she had to admit, they had been able to gather all the necessary ingredients much faster than she and Tucker would have been able to.
“Finished.” Constantine said, stepping away.
“Finally.” Sam muttered to herself.
She went to stand over by the others along the side of the room as Constantine took out the piece of paper with the summoning chant.
He started to speak, and Sam prayed to every Ancient who liked Danny that they wouldn’t be too late.
They couldn’t be late.
The circle began to glow, the items placed at each corner of the star began to float and spin around. Green light erupted from the circle and the items glowed red. Constantine kept chanting even as a screeching sound emanated from the circle full of static and the sound of death screams.
The Leaguers around her tensed, but Sam gritted her teeth.
This would work. It had to. They would not be late.

Danny was screaming. He knew he was. He felt like his body was on fire. But he could also feel a part of himself, his core, stretching toward the cultist.
He was trying to siphon the energy from Danny’s core.
He was going to End.
But then… then Danny could feel his core pulling in a different direction. The tugging was just as insistent, but it was softer somehow. It felt kinder.
But it hurt so much. He was getting pulled in two different directions. He felt like his very core would tear in two.
But he had to do something. He latched onto the second tug. He grasped it with his whole being. That was where he wanted to go, he told himself. He had to follow that tug. He latched on and tried to pull on that second connection. It burned. The other pull, the cultist’s was still strong and fiery, but Danny would not give up. He sunk his metaphorical teeth into the second tug and pulled.
He felt something shift, his connection to the cultist weakening. He heard the man shout, but then Danny was being pulled toward the second connection.
A summoning. This was a summoning.
Danny closed his eyes.
He hoped he had made the right choice.
His world exploded in white light and he felt darkness engulf him.

The circled pulsed, green light turning white before fading. Sam blinked the stars out of her eyes. The circle's glow faded and Sam saw a figure collapsed in the center of the circle.
“Danny!” she called and she ran towards him, she could see Tucker doing the same out of the corner of her eye.
She heard some of the Leaguers shout at them to stop, but she ignored them. She felt a tingle as she crossed over the edge of the circle, but it was no different than the feeling of entering or leaving Amity Park.
She collapsed to her knees beside Danny, Tucker kneeling beside her.
Oh, Ancients. He was covered in blood. And were those…
“Blood blossoms.” Tucker whispered. He took out his PDA, typing quickly. Sam knew he was informing Technus that they’d need a way to get Danny to Frostbite. But they also needed to treat Danny’s wounds in the meantime.
“We need a doctor!” she shouted at the League members still standing uselessly on the other side of the circle. Constantine was gaping at them. She scowled viscously.
Batman hesitantly stepped forward into the circle and then walked faster when nothing happened.
Batman bent down and scooped Danny up. Sam had to keep herself from attacking. He was helping. He wasn’t going to hurt Danny.
She wouldn’t let him.
She and Tucker followed Batman as he raced to where she assumed the Medbay was.
They were going to save Danny.
She wouldn’t accept any other alternative.
