The Ink Seller

Summary:

The Fifth Doctor poses as an ink seller for 18th-century etcher/engraver Anne Claude Philippe of Tubières, Count of Caylus, but the Count accidentally etches all of the Doctor's incarnations into one face.

Notes:

You may wonder why (apart from my own preferences) I chose the Fifth Doctor for the tag when nothing in the story specifies that incarnation. Ah, but something does! That's a real etching (presented here for your viewing pleasure) by a real artist, correctly named in this little tale, and if you look closely, you will see that, although the legs are all wrong, the facial profile could very well be Fivey's!

Work Text:

I'm posing for an etching when Caylus suddenly shouts, drops his needle and backs away from his easel. I run to his side. There I am on the metal plate, with my basket of ink and the wrong face. "That's not what I meant to etch," whispers Caylus.

"You got me, though," I admit. "You got an amalgamation, all of me so far."

"I only want one of your faces," he says. "All of you is too many." He picks up his knife and scrapes the plate clean. "Resume posing. I'll start over."

How do I hide my other faces?
