Yoo Joonghyuk never knew how to grieve. So he learned how to serve

Chapter Text

“Kim Dokja. I’m home.” called out the indifferent man.The house was quiet with only the dripping faucet water to fill the sounds of the house.

He plopped his bag at the foot of the shoe rack and walked into their shared bedroom.

There, he saw Dokja sleeping soundly, which made sense, he’s had a tough time lately. Joonghyuk ultimately decided not to disturb him. Then he went to the kitchen to prepare their meal.

Today, dinner would be curry with meat. He expertly chopped up the potatoes into big chunks, and took out a container with meat in it. On the container, there was a note written, with familiar handwriting.

He smiled warmly, recalling the lengths he took to get it. He took the meat out and quickly trimmed it into marbled pieces

Around this time, the noisy child came back from school. “Is dinner ready yet?” she chirped . Her shoes were strewn carelessly across the floor as she rushed to the kitchen, still wearing her bag.

Joonghyuk frowned at the sight but sighed and asked her to set the table.

…..

“Lets eat!” Biyoo beamed as she dug into the food with a child-like enthusiasm

“You even cooked the special meat!”

They ate in silence. The curry was rich, a little sweet, just how he remembered Dokja l iking the taste of it.

“It’s so good... kinda tastes like how appa used to make his food.”

She giggled.

“You must’ve used one of his secret ingredients again!”

He paused and looked at his bowl in silence.

He didn’t say anything. Just chewed slowly.
The flavor lingered strangely.

The taste— it was almost Dokja’s.

Joonghyuk’s lips curled into a small, fond smile. He chewed slowly, savoring the moment. It was a taste of the past, of a life they shared together, and he couldn’t help but appreciate it.

Maybe it was just the seasoning…

Maybe.

You are what you eat.
