Work Text:
“Well, y'know, just feel free to come by and grab a hall pass any time from the big dogs,” Martyn gestured with his arm to the mesa where he and Timmy's shack was constructed (void, was it ugly. Martyn was embarrassed Mumbo , someone he actually wanted to impress, had to think he had any part in it.)
“Yeah! The big dogs! Big dogs on the big hill,” Jimmy nodded to Martyn's words, hands on his hips, tail wagging behind him, seeming very proud of himself.
Mumbo seems very amused. “Nice. Nice. Real cool name, guys,” he looks up at the shack, covering his eyes from the sun with one hand. Jimmy laughs.
“Oh, says the one who lives in a sideways house, what are you called, 'The Degrees'? Whatever,” Martyn nudges Mumbo with his left hand and flicks his tail.
Mumbo stares down at the hand Martyn nudged him with. “Well, we're The Mounders, actually,” he grabs Martyn's hand in his own, holding it up to inspect.
Martyn makes a surprised squeak as he's grabbed, but stays silent to let Mumbo inspect him. “...You kept our rings?” Mumbo finally asks when he looks up. Martyn jerks his hand back.
Though Mumbo didn't seem upset , there's still that part in Martyn that's worried he'll think it's weird .
Martyn reaches back to scratch at his neck, awkwardly. “I– well–” he struggles to explain himself, looking anywhere but Mumbo and swishing his tail nervously.
“I think it's very sweet that you kept them, Martyn,” Mumbo offers, smiling at him. “In fact, I'm very happy you did, I'd quite like mine back.”
Martyn's face flushes. “Oh– Yeah, sure, of course,” he pulls the smaller band off of his ring finger and places it in Mumbo's palm, who slips it on to his own finger.
Mumbo looks very happy, and Martyn's heart aches. He jolts as Mumbo's hand tilts his chin up and his husband (is he his husband again???) gives him a kiss on the cheek.
Martyn's sure his face has never felt hotter, he's acting like a kid with their first crush rather than a grown man with his husband , for void's sake.
Mumbo pets him between his two doggy ears– which is as endearing as it is humiliating– and begins to walk off. “Well, I gotta go, see you around big dogs.”
Martyn stares after the man for a few seconds before he turns to Jimmy, whom is staring at him with such a teasing look in his eyes.
“Oooooh, someone's got a crush!” Martyn cuffs him over the ear, and he jolts back.
“Shut up!”
