Wind Archer knocked on the door gently. When he didn't get an answer, he pushed it open anyway. Fire Spirit blearily opened his eyes, rubbing them with sloppy movements. "Time for your next dose," Wind Archer said.
"Tired...' Fire Spirit yawned. He closed his eyes again, but Wind Archer sat him up and handed him a pill.
As Fire Spirit groped for his water, Wind Archer grabbed it for him and helped him take a sip. "I know you're tired," Wind Archer said, resting a hand on his boyfriend's forehead, "But it's important to keep up with your medication. The surgeon said every 4 hours on the dot."
Fire Spirit swallowed, then flopped his head back. As Wind Archer helped fix his legs to be properly elevated, he mumbled, "...starting to be able to feel my left leg again..."
Wind Archer nodded. "Thats good. Well," he paused, "It'll start to hurt. But that's what the medications are for. How are you feeling? Besides for tired."
Fire Spirit didn't answer for a long moment. He was sweaty and struggling to keep his eyes open. "...hot..."
"Would you like me to turn on a fan?" Wind Archer asked.
Fire Spirit shook his head in jerky movements, then held his arms up. He gave a half smile. "...will you stay with me for a bit?" He asked.
Wind Archer didn't hesitate. Cautious of Fire Spirit's leg, he climbed in bed next to him and held him close. "Rest," he whispered, kissing the back of the flame guardian's head.
Fire Spirit didn't fall asleep quite immediately, but he was too tired to respond either way. As he laid in Wind Archer's arms, Wind Archer couldn't help but ponder his anesthesia induced love confession.
As sweet as he still found it, and as much as he wanted to talk about, it still wasn't a good time. Fire Spirit was far more coherent than he was on the anesthesia, but the painkillers were making him so tired that he could barely stay awake long enough for his next dosages. If he was able to hold a conversation, he'd probably just fall asleep in the middle of it.
"Stop moving..." Fire Spirit complained.
Wind Archer gave a small chuckle and held him a bit tighter in apology. "Sorry," he whispered.
He double checked that his alarm for the next dosage was set, then closed his own eyes. Taking care of Fire Spirit these next weeks would be hard, yes, but he didn't mind. All that mattered was making sure he recovered properly.
Because Wind Archer loved him too.
