Work Text:
Toya looks out of Akito's window right as the sky opens, rain hitting against the window like it wants to break the glass.
The weather has been unpredictable all week, but despite that, he and Akito still made sure to walk each other back from school. The first droplets started falling a few houses away from Akito's place, and Akito simply pulled him with himself. Toya has an umbrella, but walking in such windy, rainy weather wouldn't have been pleasant.
“Anythin' you wanna do?” Akito asks as he's getting comfortable, backpack kicked away into a far corner to be forgotten about, alongside their assigned homework. Toya won't let him skip it, but that should be left for later.
“I'm not sure. I wasn't expecting to end up at yours, and I was going to read the book we bought once I got home.” The final installation in one of his favourite series just released today, and he made sure to make a stop at the first bookshop on their way.
The book is safely hidden in his bag, calling to him in a sweet siren song of mystery and action. He wanted to start on it as soon as he got home, to avoid staying up at night, but he’s not sure when he'll be home. It might be another late night for him tonight, even though he knows Akito won't be happy about that.
“You can start readin’ if ya want.” Akito shrugs. “I was gonna work out for a bit. We can do our own thing, for a while?” He looks towards him, rubbing his neck.
“That works for me. Thank you, Akito.” Toya reaches into his bag to get his book. He drums his fingers against the spine in excitement, taking in the cover art. It's simple, but to the point, and after a moment he finally turns to the first page.
Toya can't wait for the climax, for the mastermind behind the murders to finally be revealed, hopefully confirming his theories. He's scoured the forums a few days before release, to see what other fans thought, then logged out and promised himself not to look back until he finishes reading.
The sounds of Akito getting ready fill the room as Toya begins reading the first page. He finds himself looking up after the first few sentences, curiosity driving his eyes away from the book.
His eyes drift upwards just in time to see Akito change out of his uniform into something more comfortable. His shirt gets dumped on the floor, and Toya is treated to the sight of Akito's tanned, muscular back. Toya watches Akito's muscles shift underneath freckled skin as he pulls on a tank top. The shirt is loose, and the material hangs off Akito's frame in a way that leaves his shoulders and upper back barely covered. Mesmerized, Toya's unable to look away, the book forgotten in his lap.
It's not Toya's fault Akito is so beautiful, though.
Time and time again, no matter the place, he finds his gaze drawn to Akito. He's so different from Toya, and he can never get enough of admiring Akito's features. His skin is a lovely warm brown, with freckles splattered on top like paint droplets. Beneath his skin lies a soft layer of fat, most of it storing in his abdomen. Toya loves laying his hands over Akito's belly, pressing his fingers in. Akito always tenses when he does that, and Toya gets to feel his muscles flex beneath his fingers.
Toya has never been much into working out, his interest in exercise never straying beyond P.E. classes and anything necessary for their performances. He knows exercise has been a part of Akito’s life since he was young; from soccer to running, to now working out. He loves seeing the effects of Akito's dedication, and Akito's ability to casually lift him up if necessary is an added bonus.
His gaze remains on Akito as he takes off his pants; Akito's style, as much as it suits him, covers up a lot. The contour of his legs, with its defined mucles, gets hidden by baggy layers. It's a bit of a shame, he finds, when Akito works so hard for it.
His eyes meet Akito's when the other turns back to him, now fully changed; Akito grins at him once he realizes that Toya's attention was on him instead of the book. In turn, Toya feels his ears go pink.
“Weren'tcha gonna read your book?” He asks as he's grabbing his mat, amusement twinkling in his eyes.
“I was,” Toya admits. He reaches back into his backpack to grab something to use as a bookmark, just in case.
“Looks like I'm quite the distraction for you.” Akito kicks out his mat, unrolling it on the floor. His voice is filled with smug self-satisfaction, although softness hides beneath it.
“You always are, Akito,” Toya admits. The truth is enough to shift Akito's expression into something cuter, redness creeping up his cheeks as he looks to the side.
Akito doesn't reply, instead starting to warm up. Toya shakes his head, amused, then picks his book back up and returns to the beginning.
He can't focus on the book.
The quiet noises of Akito shifting on the mat are distracting, and his steady breaths fill the room, swim into Toya's ears. He has to reread sentence after sentence, eyes constantly shifting away from the pages and onto Akito's figure.
The afternoon sun hits Akito at all the right angles, highlighting his features. Toya hasn't even realized when the clouds cleared up, the sun's rays peering through the window. Akito's orange locks looks like they’ve been set ablaze by the sun, a fiery halo around his face. His brows are furrowed in focus, and his fierce olive eyes are set on his goal.
Akito doesn't notice his staring, which Toya doesn't mind. It's an opportunity to admire Akito in peace, watch how his sweat-slicked skin glistens in the sun.
He’s not supposed to look at Akito, though. He does want to read his book, so he forces himself to look back to the page where he left off.
He gets maybe two pages further in before he looks up again.
Akito's shifting again, moving closer to the bed and tucking his feet under it. He's so much closer, and Toya can only watch the way his golden halo sways with each sit-up. His eyes drift lower, to Akito's chest. His shirt shifts with his every move, and Toya's gaze roams over the exposed skin, the definition of his pecs. He's tempted to put down his book and touch Akito instead, feel how his muscles tense and relax. He shouldn't disrupt him, though, so he regrettably returns to the spot where he left off.
He doesn't get far in before he looks up again, this time to the sound of Akito's voice.
“Toya, mind bein' my weight?” Akito asks as he switches position, moving the mat away from the bed and assuming the position for push-ups.
“Of course.” Toya stands up from the bed and carefully sits cross-legged on Akito's back. He waits a moment, until Akito begins moving, to go back to the book.
He gets a few sentences in before the rhythmic, alluring movement of Akito's body makes him look away again.
From here, he can watch as Akito's shoulder blades move, just barely not brushing against Toya's legs. Toya knows this is a taxing exercise, especially with a weight, and that to do it his core and arms need to be strong. His hands itch to put away the book and slide them under Akito's shirt. Distracting Akito would be rude, no matter how many times he thinks about it, so he stares at Akito's freckled hand instead. The scattered dots make a familiar pattern, and his black nail polish is mostly chipped off. Toya's own has started to chip off as well, and he makes a mental note to ask Akito to repaint them after this.
The steady rise and fall lulls Toya into a trance, gaze locked onto Akito's hand. His hand is wider than Toya's own, with shorter fingers and thin, barely visible scars from various scrapes and accidents. Toya knows his palm is warm and worn, and he loves holding it in his own, feeling it against his skin.
“Toya,” Akito says, startling him out of his thoughts. “‘m done.”
“Ah. I'm sorry.” Toya quickly gets off Akito and back on the bed.
“‘s fine,” Akito waves him off and changes position again, laying down on his side and stretching his arm out. His brow furrows, and Toya tilts his head, curious.
“Actually, mind helpin’ me out?” Akito asks, “Press down on my knees and arm.”
Toya abandons the book on the bed and kneels down next to Akito. He does just as Akito instructed, holding his knees down and slowly pressing down on his arm. He watches Akito's face as he does so, looking out for any discomfort.
“Ahh, yeah, like that,” Akito groans, “Hold it for ten more, then we switch sides.”
Toya counts down in his head, then releases to let Akito turn over. Toya presses down again once Akito's ready.
“D'ya wanna help me with other stretches too?” Akito looks at him. “I don't usually have someone around when I’m stretchin’.”
“Of course.” Toya's more than happy to keep his hands on Akito, to push and press into the soft flesh.
Akito nods to him, and Toya releases his hold. Akito turns over to his back and brings a leg up.
“Put one hand below my knee, the other on my calf and slowly bring it up. Make sure to keep my leg straight, an' put your leg over my other leg. Use your torso to press down,” Akito instructs, and Toya does as he said.
Toya's so much closer to Akito now. As he slowly puts more of his weight on Akito's leg, he only gets closer. He makes sure to pay attention to Akito's face, but he can only see a small hint of discomfort underneath his lovely, crooked smile.
He's so tempting, Toya can't resist.
Carefully, Toya shifts so he can lean down and press his lips to Akito's without stretching him further. He's selfishly disrupting Akito, but Akito is always urging him on to indulge, to take. He’s been distacted by Akito since they entered the room, and he can't hold back anymore, not when he's so close. Akito doesn't seem to mind, smiling wider against his lips. Toya presses himself as close as he can, closer to the radiant warmth that seems so intristicatly tied to the other's existence. Akito’s hair flares out around him on the mat, and he looks so beautiful Toya can only do his best to make the flush on his cheeks a deeper red.
Akito pulls away from him with a grin on his face. His eyes sparkle with self-satisfaction, a beautiful gold in the afternoon sun.
“You can kiss me all you want once we're done,” He says, reaching out to tuck some hair behind Toya's ear.
“Alright.” Toya kisses Akito again, briefly, before adjusting his position and pressing down on Akito's leg again.
“Keep that for five more, then switch sides.”
Once again, Toya follows the instructions, and when the time is up he moves around to bring Akito's leg down, then lift the other up. He slowly lifts it higher, then starts to press down on it.
“Keep goin’, I'll tell you when to stop,” Akito instructs.
Toya continues to push Akito's leg down, gaze focused on Akito's face. All he can see is a casual smile, and so much trust it makes his heart squeeze up. The reassurance that Akito trusts him so easily, so wholly with himself, eases his nerves about accidentally hurting him.
“Pause here,” Akito calls. His face twists slightly at the stretch, and Toya stills.
In the time between instructions, Toya's eyes follow every contour of Akito's face; the soft arches of his cheeks, the sharper angles of his nose, slightly off-center. There's a faint scar above his left brow, maybe from a childhood accident, maybe from a soccer match. The skin over his cheeks and nose is generously covered with freckles, a small detail that adds cuteness to Akito's charm.
He loves all of Akito, but his eyes have to be one of Toya's favourite things about him; they're a warm olive shade, and painfully expressive. At first, their depth was hidden underneath politeness and passion; it took him a while to learn their subtle changes, and how closely they reflect Akito's mood. People say that eyes are the window to one's soul, and if that's the case, Akito's soul must be the most beautiful thing in the world.
“‘kay, release.” Akito's voice pierces through his thoughts, and Toya slowly brings his leg down.
Akito takes a moment to look at him, mirth dancing in his eyes. “Let's do one more, then you have me all to yourself.”
“Is my impatience that obvious?” Toya looks to the side.
“Dude, you look like you’re a moment away from jumpin’ me,” Akito laughs. Toya giggles a little at the juxtaposition of Akito choosing to call him “dude” in this moment.
“Alright, bring my leg up again, one hand under my knee, an’ with the other, bend my foot and toes up. Again, keep my leg straight. Once it's at a…” Akito pauses for a moment, thinking, “Right angle, push it down into the mat and continue to press towards me. Rest your head on your arm for extra weight.”
Toya raises his eyebrows in amusement. Perhaps he should pressure Akito to study more, with the way he had to stop and think about something as basic as angle types. Nonetheless, he follows the instructions, looking back to Akito to confirm that his grip is correct. Once he receives a nod, he starts to lift Akito's leg up. He presses it down once it's at a right angle, then slowly pushes it towards Akito, with his chin leaning on his arm as instructed.
“Ohhhhh fuck, yeah, gimme a sec,” Akito moans with a grimace, and Toya stops. “Stretchin’ my calves on my own isn't even close to this.”
“Does it feel that much different?” Toya asks, curious.
“Usually I jus’ put my foot up against the wall and get as close to it as I can,” He explains, “It might be something ‘bout the weight of your head, or some gravity shit, I dunno. Also, you can keep goin’ now.”
“That'd make sense,” Toya muses, and resumes. He takes extra care to go slow, to not hurt Akito.
“Ah, by the way, I've been told that if you twist my foot, you can stretch jus’ one head of the muscle, depending on the way you twist. Can ya try that?” Akito asks, and Toya readjusts his grip to do as he said.
“Like this?” He presses Akito's leg down while twisting his foot towards him.
“Yeah! Yeah, fuck me, that's it,” Akito groans, “That's so much more intense. Try the other way.”
“I can tell,” Toya says, amused, and does as Akito instructed. Akito grimaces, but doesn't say anything, so Toya carries on.
“‘Kay, release,” Akito calls after a moment. “Let’s switch sides.”
Toya repeats the process with Akito's other leg. Once they're done, Toya doesn't waste any time in leaning forward and pressing his lips to Akito's. Akito matches his eagerness, legs hooking around his waist, bringing them closer. Toya sneaks a hand under Akito's shirt, leisurely caressing what hides beneath it. He presses into his soft belly, then moves higher until he reaches Akito's chest, tracing the contour of his pecs with his fingertips.
Akito breaks away from him, slightly out of breath. “Can we move off the floor first?” His voice carries soft notes of amusement, and an underlying hunger for more.
“Hmm.” Toya presses a brief kiss to Akito's lips. “I quite like my current position.”
Toya dives in again before Akito can reply; their kiss in between stretches only made him want more, a foretaste of what's to come now. He feels Akito's hands tangle in his hair, keeping his head in place; in turn, Toya shifts so he's able to slide his other hand under Akito's top and onto his chest. Curiously, he lightly squeezes the muscle beneath his fingers. Akito's response is to tense and pull away, his surprise clear as day.
“Warn me next time?” He breathes out, cheeks flushed a deep red.
“But you won't react if you expect it,” Toya pouts, and he gets to watch Akito's face melt into acceptance.
“Fine, whatever.” A hand leaves his hair to make a dismissive gesture, before it returns to its spot and brings him into another kiss.
Toya lets Akito dictate the pace, far more focused on his exploration of Akito's chest. He's seen it before, he's touched it before; however, the thought of doing more that just gentle caresses hasn't occured to him until moments ago. He digs his fingers into the muscle, methodically moving along it’s curve. Once his fingers get close to Akito's sternum, Akito breathes a small gasp into the kiss. Toya waits a beat, then prods at that spot again. Akito's reaction is identical, and this time Toya takes the opportunity to deepen the kiss, tongue slipping past Akito's parted lips.
Eventually, Toya has to break away for air; his lung capacity, unfortunately, isn't endless, and practice can only take it so far. He takes a moment to drink in the sight below him; Akito's cheeks are flushed a gorgeous red, the color spreading down his neck; his chest rises and falls underneath Toya's hands in a quickened, steady rhythm. His eyes shine with desire, and his lips are slightly parted, an alluring invitation for more.
Akito acts before he can, guiding his head down to bring their lips together; their pace has slowed, much less insistent, far more lazy and thorough. Toya keeps a hand on Akito's chest and moves the other down to his belly, tracing along the soft roll of fat that Toya knows is there, barely palpable in this position, before resting his hand on Akito's side. Touching him like this, Toya isn't even close to feeling his hip bone; it's nice, especially compared to his own bony body.
Akito's teeth, digging into his bottom lip before pulling away, drag him out of his thoughts before they can veer any further from their current activities.
“C'mon, let's get off the stupid floor.” Akito's hands move to wrap around his back before he effortlessly lifts them both up. Toya takes a second to bask in the moment, seeing the results of Akito's training and feeling it's effects under his hands.
It doesn't stop him from leaning his weight on Akito in an attempt to push him back down; he doesn't mind going up on the bed, he just wants to tease Akito a little.
Akito's response is to shift his hands again, pushing them under Toya's thighs. Toya quickly finds himself a few centimeters higher than he was moments ago.
“If we were sittin’ differently, I could just lift you up with me.” Akito places him back down. “Shame. I guess I'll hafta lay on the bed, cold and alone.”Akito takes his hands and pulls them away from his body, then shifts to stand up.
“Don't you always complain that I run too cold?” Toya asks with an innocent smile.
Akito throws himself on the bed. “Whatever, jus’ please come up here.”
“Mmm, since you asked so nicely.” Toya gets up on the bed, crawling on top of Akito and kissing him again.
Akito's arms wrap around him, crashing their bodies together. Toya feels a leg hook around his waist, and suddenly he's looking up into Akito's sparkling eyes. Toya pulls away, raising a hand to cup a soft cheek, brush his thumb against the supple flesh. Akito takes his hand into one of his, pressing a kiss to the top of it.
“Your polish's chippin' off. Want me to redo it?” He murmurs, kissing the pad of every one of his fingers.
“I was planning to ask you to do it, so if you don't mind.” Toya links their fingers together, bringing their hands down towards his chest.
“I'll go get the stuff.” Akito leans in close, pressing a brief kiss to his lips before pulling away and getting off the bed.
Toya sits up, watching Akito dig through his boxes until he finds what he's looking for. Initially, the small box was just a couple of bottles that fit in his hand; over time, the collection of colors grew, warranting the container. Any time they go shopping for it, the nail polish ends up staying at Akito's house. Toya doesn't mind; he much prefers it when Akito does his nails, his hand cradled in Akito's warm one, watching Akito's precise movements.
Akito returns to him moments later, the box safely held in his hands. He places it down in Toya's lap, and Toya starts to look through the colors.
The collection soon expanded past Akito’s black polish and whichever colors Toya bought; once An realized how steady Akito's hand is, she demanded he do her and Kohane's nails too. He discards An's few mature, jewel tones and Kohane's bright, saturated colors; if he doesn't have any ideas, he usually picks out pastels. He likes their subtlelty, and the colors themselves are cute.
His other hand is taken into Akito's, and soon enough he feels something cold touch his fingernail, the smell acetone filling the air. While Akito rubs off the old color, Toya fishes out a few bottles that caught his eye.
“These three?” Akito asks, looking between the colors, all pastel; blue, orange and a warm pink.
“I think so.” Toya returns to the box to grab Akito's black polish, placing it next to his picks.
“You don't wanna have any art this time?” Akito places his hand down and picks up the other.
“No, I don't have any good ideas. Do you?” Toya fans his free hand, to make the polish remover dry faster.
“Nah, I'll figure out somethin' nice for ya the next time.” Akito shakes his head, fluffy locks bouncing with the movement.
Akito's hand cradles his own, inspecting his fingers for a moment before picking out the blue bottle. He takes a second to unscrew the bottle, momentarily letting go of his hand, before separating out his thumb and carefully applying the first layer.
Time slows down as they sit together with their hands twined; Akito’s brow is furrowed in focus, so dedicated to such a simple task. It's something Toya used to envy; the ability to commit himself wholly to whatever he's doing, give it his everything. Now, Toya knows better; when he thought himself half-hearted, Akito only saw his determination. To this day, he relishes in the feeling of claiming their dream as something that belongs to him, too, and knowing that he means it.
It's funny, in retrospect, how much his thoughts differed from how Akito saw him back then; he's glad he went back to the cafe that fateful day.
“Everythin' alright?” Akito's soft, warm voice fills the space between them, forcing Toya to focus on the boy in front of him.
“Yes. Got lost in thought, a little,” He admits quietly, looking down to his hands; all his nails are covered in color, presumably drying. Akito holds his hands in his own, their fingers linked; at his words, Akito squeezes his hands.
“Nothin' too bad, I hope.” Akito's thumbs start to brush against the tops of his hands, in a soothing back and forth motion.
“Just reminiscing.” Toya squeezes Akito's hands back; carefully, to not ruin the polish. “I love you,” He says; a sudden need to let Akito know just how precious he finds him overtaking his being. “A lot.”
Surprise flickers through Akito's face, swiftly replaced by endless fondness; the smile Toya receives carries more warmth than the sun.
“Luvya too, partner.” Akito leans forward, and Toya meets him in the middle; it's brief, but it's more than enough to convey their feelings.
“Lemme finish your nails before we do anythin' more?” Akito asks, shifting his grip to the previous position and picking up the blue polish again.
Toya nods, and Akito unscrews the bottle again. Toya relaxes as Akito resumes painting his nails; it's soothing, and he likes holding hands with Akito. His gaze ends up landing on their joined hands; he watches Akito work, maneuvering his fingers with utmost care. Toya lets his mind drift, not focusing on anything but the warmth in his hand, the repetitive motions of the brush. He loves to spend time with Akito in any form, but there's something special about quiet moments like these, when they exist together doing something small and seemingly insignificant.
“‘m done,” Akito murmurs out. He quickly puts away the polish and returns to holding Toya's hands.
“Do you want me to touch up yours?” Toya asks, tiling their joined hands towards himself to inspect Akito's nails.
“If we have time,” Akito hums, “You said you gotta be home by five, right? Lemme check the time.” Akito lifts Toya's hand to his lips, kissing his knuckles before letting go to grab his phone. “Shit. You gotta leave in a few, if you wanna make it on time.” Akito's phone lands on the bed, in the spot he was sat in moments ago. His lockscreen clock confirms his words, and for a moment he watches his own smiling face before the screen turns black.
“That's a shame.” He makes no move to get off the bed yet, fanning his hands to get the polish to dry faster.
Akito hums in response as he begins to clean up. He leaves the black polish and clear top on his cupboard, and puts the box back in its spot. Toya's gaze follows him as he rolls up the mat and places it back, picking up the clothes strewn on his floor and tossing them in his closet. Lastly, he picks up Toya's book, and carefully places it back inside his bag.
Toya gently prods at his nails; the shiny color is dry, so he unfortunately has to drag himself off the bed. He wraps his arms around Akito, hiding his face in the crook of Akito's neck; he has to curl up slightly to do so, but it doesn't matter right now. Akito smells of sweat and citrus and something sweet; it's a familiar scent, one that quickly joined freshly brewed coffee in being among Toya's favourites.
Akito's arms wrap around his back, his head leaning into his. “I'd love for you to stay, but I don't want your old man to hate me more,” Akito murmurs, “C'mon, I'll call ya in the evening.”
“You're warm and comfortable,” Toya whines, pulling away; they stay in each other's arms for a moment more, before Toya breaks away to grab his bag.
Akito walks him to the front door, with slow and soft footsteps; Toya, similarly, lingers in the doorway even once his shoes are on.
“Ah, by the way, how was your book so far?” Akito asks. Toya stares at him for a moment, trying to remember a single detail about the few pages he's managed to read.
“I'll tell you once I finish it?” He offers instead. The only thing his mind is supplying is visions of Akito on the mat, and not a single scene from the book.
“Sure?” Akito sounds a little confused, but he lets the topic go. “Stay safe on your way back.”
“I will. See you tomorrow, Akito.” With that, Toya steps outside the Shinonome household and closes the door behind himself.
He's going to have to read his book from the start again. He’ll stay up all night, and Akito will scold him for it tomorrow, doing his best to sound stern, but he'll also offer to cover his eye bags with concealer and buy him a coffee. Toya usually does his best to not disappoint his partner, especially when Akito's actions are guided by love and care for him, but with how much he's enjoyed himself today, he finds that he doesn't mind.
