Work Text:
“Damn, I finished way faster than I thought…” Hasegawa spoke to himself while walking out of the exam hall.
Exams hit the students hard this semester. Just weeks before, six groups of teens were huddled in the library, forming small study groups in the corner. Books were everywhere, papers were ripped apart, and at least 20 dead highlighters were in the garbage.
Hasegawa knew about stressing out about tests, hell, he had stacks of books on his desk cramming in a last minute study session last night. Kamimura had to DRAG him to bed at 11pm.
Speaking of Kamimura, he didn't have any exams today, all of them were last week, which were all early in the morning.
He was probably already home. Probably sleeping, or cooking something, or cleaning up all the books Ken left out. Hasegawa knew he was going to get an earful when he got back to the dorm.
He started heading for the dorm hall, having a feeling of dread about what Kazutoshi will say about the mess.
…………………………………………………
He made his way to the dorm when he heard something from inside. He couldn't tell what it was from the outside, but he knew it was an instrument of some kind.
He opened the door to see his roommate sitting on the couch holding a guitar, not noticing the person staring at him from the doorway.
His hair was let down for once, longer than Ken thought his hair was. He still wore his hoodie, even though he wore it to bed last night. His red eyes stared the electric guitar down like it personally offended him in some way.
“What the fuck? I just tuned you out!”
Hasegawa had to hold back a laugh at that.
Kazutoshi continued to attempt to tune it, cussing it out in the process.
Even still, he was the prettiest boy Hasegawa ever laid his eyes on.
God, Hasegawa still thought he had to be one of the luckiest men in the world when it came to love.
Hasegawa never knew he could play the guitar, but it should've been a bit obvious since Kamimura had a guitar stand in his bedroom.
Hasegawa should've said something, called out, walked in but no, he didn't do any of that.
He just waited in the doorway, watching him.
He didn't know the song he was playing, though he definitely heard it before. Kazutoshi's hands looked uncomfortable while playing it, yet his face didn't show anything.
He was too focused on playing.
It wasn't until Kazutoshi finished playing that Hasegawa closed the door. Instead of fully entering though, he sat down with his back against the door and listened.
He continued to play various songs. Hasegawa lost count of how many, but he DEFINITELY remembered Kazutoshi started singing while playing.
It was very quiet to begin, like he knew Hasegawa was watching him. He started getting more comfortable later on, as Hasegawa fought the urge to film it.
He couldn't remember how long it had been, but he started getting bored.
It wasn't the fact that Kazutoshi wasn't good, he was amazing! But there isn't much to do on the floor.
Just when he was going to announce himself, he got called out.
“As the world cav- KEN WHAT THE FUCK?” He almost jumped off the couch. Kazutoshi hit the floor with a thud.
His hair covered his face. He ended up landing on his side, hitting his head on the wooden floor. He was trying to push himself when Hasegawa ran over.
“Oh God, I'm so sorry!”
Ken grabbed his arms and pulled him up. Kazutoshi laid his hands on Hasegawa's shoulders, trying to balance himself while Ken was dragging him up.
“Fucking calm down! I'm fine.”
“L-let me check!”
“W-wha I'm fine!”
Even with the protest, Hasegawa pulled him a bit closer, laying his head on his chest. He proceeded to move around his hair, searching for any wounds of some kind.
Kazutoshi's eyes widened, face turning slightly red. He tried to move from his grasp.
“Hey! I said I'm fine!”
Hasegawa ignored him and continued his search. Since they were both on the ground, it was a lot easier to try to find anything.
Even with that, he came up empty handed. It was only then he realized their position.
Both of them were on the ground facing each other. Hasegawa had held Kazutoshi's head to his chest, wrapping one arm around him.
He quickly let go of the shorter teen.
“S-sorry..”
“It's whatever. Just how long have you been in the doorway…?”
“Uhm..” Ken didn't know how to answer that. He knew it was awhile, but he didn't have the exact timeframe.
He messed around with his hair, slightly nervous of the teens reaction to the truth he has withheld.
“A-about 5 hours now..”
Kazutoshi blushed profusely, realization hit him like a truck. Hasegawa had stayed there from the time he picked up his guitar to now.
“Are you serious right fucking now?” He didn't dare hold on to the bit of hope that it was all a joke, some really dumb, annoying joke.
Unfortunately, he was correct not to hold on.
“I-i know it sounds bad, but if it makes you feel any better, you sound really good!” He wasn't lying. He wouldn't lie about something like that.
“That really doesn't Ken! You were spying on me for 5 hours, and you think complimenting me will make me forget that?”
“I'm not trying to make you forget! I-im just trying to make you feel better…”
“Well it- I mean..shut the hell up!” He covered Hasegawa’s face with his palms. Hasegawa could hear him mumbling something in his hands but couldn't make out the words.
He was clearly flustered.
“Hey, it's nothing to be embarrassed about! You sound great.”
“Hasegawa, shut up”
Ken pulled his hands off his mouth, rubbing his finger up and down the side of Kazutoshi's face. Kazutoshi didn't dare make eye contact.
“No seriously, you're talented in this!”
“Ken I'm fucking warning you”
At that point, Hasegawa was doing this for the fun of it. It's not that he likes to see Kazutoshi embarrassed, just flustered.
“Oh warning me are you? What are you going to do about me loving you?”
He barely got the words out when he was hit with a shoe.
“Wha- HEY”
“I warned you.” Kazutoshi then grabbed a pillow from the couch and started to knock Hasegawa over. He managed to push him down on his back and get on top of him, pressing the pillow down on his head.
“Mhm? Mhmhmm! Mhm mhm hm!” Hasegawa could talk properly with the pillow covering his mouth, so he was trying to pry Kazutoshi's hands off the pillow.
“Are you going to apologize yet?”
“Hmmm mhmhh!”
Kazutoshi tried holding back a laugh at the scene in front of him, but it was almost impossible. Hasegawa kept grabbing onto his hands to attempt to pull them off the pillow. He was kicking at Kazutoshi's knees, hoping to knock him over.
At some point, Kazutoshi lost it. He fell over on top of Hasegawa, not being able to control his laugh. Hasegawa took the opportunity to remove the pillow from his mouth.
Ken took one look at Kazutoshi laughing, and smiled. He hasn't seen him laugh like that in a while, so to him it was a special occasion of sorts.
“Are you almost done?”
No. No he wasn't. Kazutoshi at this point was crying. His laughs filled the room as Ken sat up, Kazutoshi still laying on him.
His face was pressed on his shoulder, Ken could feel his laughter though his jacket.
He wasn't going to stop anytime soon.
Unless
“Ok, fine. I'll do it my way”
“*Inhale* wait what-”
Before Kazutoshi could get another word out, Hasegawa grabbed his face and kissed him. It wasn't forceful or anything. It was a gentle one on the lips.
When he pulled away, his plan most definitely worked. Kazutoshi didn't speak, didn't laugh, didn't even move. He just stared at him bewildered.
“You done now?”
“...”
“...you want me to kiss you again?”
Kazutoshi took a second, then nodded.
They sat on the floor kissing each other until dinner.
