Work Text:

They met up at Seoul's Jongno District again. Away from the prying eyes of others and talking as if only the two of them existed at that moment.

"Who do you think will marry first, me or you?"

The question almost made Rumi choke on the bobba tea she had been drinking. None of them confirmed their relationship to be a romantic one but that is one awful thing to ask someone you're on a date with. Then again, she'd always say that these were just business meetings.

Still. Is anyone this clueless?

"You I guess" she responds with a half-hearted smile, trying to hide her displeasure on the topic. Besides, she's still too young to get married- in comparison to him who's lived for centuries.

"Hmm no- I think you. There are lots of guys who'd kill to marry you"

"You have millions of fans fawning over you too" Her lack of genuine interest on the matter is becoming more evident in her tone.

An eerie silence falls between them before Jinu decides to say something that would unknowingly infuriate and confuse her "Hey here's a thought what if we'd get married at the same time?"

Rumi's brows furrowed lightly as she's currently having a hard time picturing his idea inside her head "You mean like a double wedding? Isn't that bad luck? A little inconvenient if you ask me"

"That's not-" Jinu sighs, feeling helpless seeing as how his words couldn't reach her properly "That's not what I meant"

Another long pause comes and this time, Rumi broke the silence, scoffing at her place "I have no plans of getting married"

Not when the very oblivious man she'd even consider marrying someday still couldn't look at her that way.

"Oh you don't?" She shakes her head 'no' at his question "That's too bad"

"What about you?" This newfound curiosity in the topic of marriage only sparked her interest "You want to get married right? I think you'd make an excellent husband someday"

Rumi wanted to bash her head at the nearby stone wall for hurting herself with her own words. She tried her hardest to act excited for his future plans (as his friend and all) but the task proved to be quite difficult given how she currently feels her heart aching in her chest.

"You do?" He smiles this time, eyes gleamed with hope for her next words.

"Yeah and kids like you" She continues, recalling their fansigning and how a huge chunk of his fanbase composed of little kids who adored the lively songs he would compose "You'd make a great dad as well"

Again there is was- the painful jolt in her chest everytime she would imagine him with wife and kids. It was selfish to want to keep him to herself no matter what their relationship was but she couldn't help on what to feel.

Jinu laughs "Maybe you're right. I think two girls would be enough. One that looks like me and the other like her mother"

She hums in agreement, nodding along his every word as she swallowed a huge lump in her throat. Millions of thoughts circled inside her head as she looked for answers on how they ended up right here in this very awkward situation.

"But I don't think that's possible now" Jinu's words suddenly thrusted her back to reality and when she looks over to where he stood, she was met with a sad smile.

"Why not?"

He clears his throat and made sure to break eye contact before risking another attempt on a vague confession.

"Because the girl I like has no plans of getting married"

....

"So this is what you meant by getting married at the same time" Rumi couldn't even begin to explain what to feel right now. Their wedding just ended and there was no one left at the reception hall but them.

Four years. It took them four years to get here.

Jinu requested a final dance with her after all the guests had left- a small tradition he came up with after all those years of planning for his future wedding- with Rumi of course.

"Scared at how my prediction came true?" He asks proudly, swaying her gently to the melody of the slow music.

"Not at all" She admits. If only he knew how much she'd prayed for this moment for the longest time "But I'd be impressed if we end up having two daughters"

"You have no faith in me, wife" He kids, squeezing her hand tightly as if he's afraid that she would vanish if he'd let go.

Up to this day, she still couldn't believe that he managed to get her to walk down the aisle. The only love stories she knew are those that ended in heartbreak, tragedies and death- thus fixating her fear of marriage. But with Jinu she felt safe, secured, cherished and loved. And that's when she realized she's right where she always wanted to be.
