Work Text:
Eddie wakes up in a bed that distinctly isn’t his.
He always sleeps with a blanket, he runs extremely cold. But here he’s wrapped under nothing more than a sheet. And he feels like he’s still burning up.
At first he thinks he must be sick. But then he wakes enough to get a clear look at his surroundings and he almost screams. Because why the fuck is he in buck’s apartment? And where is buck?
——
Theres the sound of someone in the kitchen. That is what wakes buck up. His hands fumble for the bat he keeps at his bedside incase of an intruder but he doesn’t find it. Instead his hand slams down into a bedframe that is much too tall to be his.
He opens his eyes wide, confused as to why he’s so freezing. And realizes with startling clarity that he’s in eddies house.
He gets up, crossing the room before getting the light scared out of him when he sees a reflection in the mirror. But not his own. No, eddies face stares back at him and he screams, he hears chris wake up from across the hall. “Dad?” The boy calls. Shuffling sounds from inside his room as Buck panics, genuinely at a loss for words and thoughts. Chris’ door opens, and he comes out into the hallway, going over to eddies room. “You alright dad?” He asks. When he gets no answer he cautiously opens the door.
“Dad?” Chris calls again. Buck turns. Suddenly feeling scared. “I’m okay!” He yelps “i’m fine!” He turned to hold the door. Not slamming it back in chris’ face.
——
He arrived to work in eddies truck. Hating the way it felt on the road. Too clunky, and not his style. He slammed the door as he got out, not realizing he was using too much force to shove it closed. He flinched and that’s when he heard it. His own voice.
“Buck?” It was his voice—- no, it was eddie. Eddie in his body. “Eddie?” He responded shakily. Eddie nodded his head— well, bucks head. It was confusing.
“What the hell did you do?” Eddie asked.
Buck felt his jaw drop. “What did i do?” He asked astounded. “What did you do?” He retorted. “Oh come on buck, this has your name written all over it!”
“Really? Cause from where i’m standing it seems like it has your name written all over it, considering you’re me.”
“Diaz! Buckley! Let’s get to work!” Bobby calls from inside the station. Both of them turn. “We’ll talk about this later.” Eddie tells buck before heading inside.

The first time cap calls for buck, ‘eddie’ turns around. Which is how eddie drags buck into the bathroom. “We’ve got to get this under control buck” he says.
“Yeah, you’re telling me.” Buck retorts. “This is confusing.” Eddie stars to laugh.
“What? Eddie, why are you laughing?” Buck asks him.
“It’s just— cmon buck, we both know you got us into this mess and now you’re the one freaking out!”
“Eddie, cmon.” Buck complains. “It’s not funny.”
“No buck, it’s hilarious” eddie tells him. Resting a hand on his shoulder. “Now come on, lets try and get this day over with.”
“Easy for you to say” buck mumbles but they separate. Going back to work.
——
Buck wonders if someone said the Q-word. Or if this was a punishment from some kind of god because the day was bad and it only kept getting worse.
He was really trying to make this shift work. But it was hard to not respond to your name. Even if they meant someone else.
Although eddie seemed fine on that front. Albeit eddie seemed fine with everything.
And of course, they couldn’t tell anyone else. Because who would believe them.
It all comes to a stop when they get a call for someone. The same someone who they got a call for yesterday. Before everything happened.
When buck and eddie stepped in, she took one look at them and bursted out laughing.
Chim tilted his head. Confused and concerned.
“Oh my gods, you two idiots haven’t figured it out yet?” She speaks.
“Figure what out?” Buck asks. Trying his best to pretend to be eddie, to do what he would’ve done.
“Oh come on buck, don’t be silly” the shop owner. Who he thinks was named something like Bri tells him, laughing. He looks down at his body again. “Ma’am i’m eddie, not buck.” He tries to tell her.
“Nonsense, i switched you both. I know whose who” bri stares at them both.
“You switched us?” Eddie asks, sounding pretty pissed off. “Well how do we fix it then?” He demands, stepping closer. When bobby tries to stop him, he merely pushes bobbys hand out of the way. “How do we fix what you did.” He demands harshly. Standing over bri; who doesn’t seem phased at all.
“Simple, you just got to admit the truth.” She tells them both.
“The truth? The truth about what?” Buck asks, confused.
“About each other” she says calmly. “About your feelings”
Buck laughs nervously “we’re just friends” he tells her.
“The spell wouldn’t have worked unless you were in love.” She tells him.
“So what, i just say ‘oh i love you’ and the spells fixed?”
Bri laughs, shaking her head. “No, you have to kiss. And truly kiss.” She tells them. “Only then will the spell be broken.”
“Why the hell did you do this to us?” Eddie asks.
“Oh i didn’t mean too, it was meant to be just a truth spell. I wanted to just give you a little push in the right direction. But magic is finicky. And i got the spell wrong.
“Okay well. We’re not going to kiss just because of—“ buck starts, but is cut off by eddie. Eddie’s lips connected with his, and he’s shocked for a second but responds. Kissing back. He feels eddie’s arm around the back of his neck.
He pulls away soon after, both of them breathing heavily. Buck more so, shock coating his features. “Eds?” He asks, confused.
“I was wanting to do that for so long” he tells buck.
“Alright you two, wrap it up!” Chimney says. “She needs to go to a hospital! And frankly you might too.” He tells them. He pats eddie’s shoulder. As he passes, something he always did to buck. The two are silent, getting back into the firetruck.
Then, they pass out. Ravi freaks out when he sees it, they both pass out at the same time. But when they wake up. They turn to each other. “Eddie?” Asks buck. “Yeah, i think it’s fixed” eddie responds.
“Okay what the fuck!” Ravi exclaims. Feeling like he is now also on some kind of drug trip.
