Seeds of Regret sprout Death

Summary:

what if death note had a female character that didn't die in TWO episodes AND was smart...KINDA????????
oh uhmm serious description: Light was always alone at the top, but like what if he wasn't. And also what if his arranged marriage wife had CRAZY teenage angst. Their relationship were created by mitski songs don't blame me.

Notes:

Btw Aya(OC) won't be fleshed out in this chapter specifically since I'm more focusing it on Light discovering the death note, yes I stole almost everything from the first ep/chapter of death note.
I hope you guys like this I have literally never written a fic before.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

(??? POV)
(Feb 28, 2010)
'Maybe it was always meant to be this way. Maybe I was meant to be standing on top of whatever this building was called, watching as cars pass by, red lights turn green and my life flashes before my eyes. What have I done, sometimes I ask to myself and the only thing I can answer with is that...that I have done so many irredeemable things. You had done so many horrible things, we had done so many horrible things, hadn't we, Light? Our hands weep with the knowledge of what they have been used to do. And Alas, they reap what we sowed. I turned to face the legacy I am bound to leave behind me(?), but I only see the vast dark swallowing the sky whole. The moon shining down on me, are you watching - Yagami? I covered my eyes with my hands like the coward I was, and I still would have even though I know now what was going to happen. And then.. I finally jumped.'

'I didn't end up dying that hopeless day, I learned I never would.'

(Nov 28, 2003)
(Light Yagami's POV)
'Today's class is even more boring than yesterday's. God, Can this day end any later? I already know all this stuff!' Light Yagami - Japan's golden boy, could not care less about whatever repeated spoonful of sugar his teacher was feeding the entire class, most could tell he didn't care since he was mindlessly staring out of the large window beside him. Seemed like this day was going to be as boring as th- 'Hold on. Is that a falling notebook..? 'Death note'? Sounds like something a middle schooler would write in...though it does look interesting. I should pick it up, I know Aya would die to look at it.' That day was a day he'd remember until he'd drop dead. The birth of a deity, a God.

Luckily, that class was his last one for the day, and as students piled out into the corridors and through the school gates, Light was surrounded by a few friends of his, well...classmates, it's not like he cared much about these dudes. They probably didn't either, considering they only showed to either get the golden boy to say something gossip-worthy or copy off his notes. They didn't matter much to him though as he ushered them away with sweet words and a talented enough excuse he'd been practicing for a week or so. And as soon as Light noticed the coast was clear, he walked calmly towards the fallen notebook, leaned down to pick it up and immediately noticed the large words 'Death note' engraved onto the black leather cover. 'That's really what it said?'

He couldn't have possibly explained that day, but a sudden chill had caressed his spine when he opened the book to its first page. "Any Human who's name is written in this book shall die...?" Sounds like some fantasy game created by a 13 year old. Aya would love this - she's always loved creepy things, that idiot. Though, he would be lying if he said he was fascinated by the concept of a notebook that could kill - And so he put it in his backpack before walking towards the neighboring all girls school besides Daikoku Private Academy, 'Hiroko All-Girl's Private Academy' - a long walk for a neighboring school - and stood outside, going from mindlessly tapping his feet to checking the time. Aya's classes always ran late these days, rumors said that exam preparation was already being set in motion but she had already denied them when Light asked 2 days ago. The entrance

As if a genie had finally granted his wishes, he noticed girls piling out of every door of the building. Some of them, freshman probably, whispered on why Light Yagami was standing outside of their school like a maniac but he was dead focused on finding her - Aya. And soon, his eyes locked with hers.

(Nov 28, 2003)
(Aya Fumetsu POV)
'Light's already waiting for me? That's surprising, usually he just calls me to ask if I'm home or if I'm coming over.' She waves off her friends before falling in step besides Light, something unusual since some of the students walking by turned their heads to stare - but besides from that - she also noticed that his lifespan isn't above his head anymore. Odd and terrifying at the same time, but she'd ask Hikarei about it when she reaches...home. The last time she had heard about the eyes, she was what, 7? Don't blame her! She had always been able to see people's life spans since somewhere close to that age and ended up making the dumbest deal of her life only like 3 days after picking up the notebook. She was only six when she had picked up a silly looking notebook that said 'Death note' in big letters that simply flew over that little girl's head like the numbers that will forever remain above all of humanity.

Her train-wreck of the usual thoughts broke when Light asked her how her day was and she immediately straightened her back. "It was alright, nothing really changed, thought alot of the girls in my class are starting to talk about you." She said, now fully facing Light as she continued. "Man, they'd be pissed if they found out we're bound to eachother for life." Her tone was dramatic but she wasn't lying, apparently Mr. Yagami and her...spiteful old bastard of a father decided on this when they were still kids playing tag while Sayu would begging to join. The whole 'technically' part is that they just signed marriage papers, kissed and continued with their lives when they were sixteen. No big ceremony with guests and a cake, just papers and pens and a eternal contract with someone who probably saw her as a friend.

Light let out a over-confident chuckle, "Really? Well, I can't blame them. I AM irresistible to you, aren't I?" He earned a humbling slap on the back from her in return. "Yeah yeah golden boy, go suck your own dick!" She tried to sound angry, it he was right - even if he himself didn't know it. "Anyways, I'm gonna stay at my place this time, it's been like weeks since I've slept in my own soft and warm blanket and not that hard rock of a mattress you willingly sleep on!" She poked her tongue playful out before stopping to wave him off, and as they walk separate paths. Her smile fades as fast as time.

(Light Yagami's POV)
Light watched as Aya waved at him before walking towards the bus stop. He himself turned around and begun his short travel to his house. 'I wonder what that notebook was about, Any human whose name is written in the notebook shall die, hm? Maybe I'll test it out, see if it's actually the real thing.' He opened the door and was quickly greeted by his mother, Sachiko Yagami. "Sweetheart you're back! Where's Aya?" She questioned him, sometimes he believed she preferred Aya over him. "She decided to stay at her parent's house today." Apparently this reply earned him a loud, annoyed groan from his younger sister, Sayu - which he ignored as he made his way into his bedroom and swiftly locked the door behind him.

He lays down on his bed, staring at the ceiling as if he was going to find the cure to his endless boredom, he stared until he remembered that black notebook he found. That 'death note.' He gets ups and opened his backpack where it's sitting there, a almost menacing aura surrounding it's mere presence as he takes it  out and opens it to the first page -  where he reads the rest of the thousands of pages of rules. 'Wow. This might be even more boring than sitting around and doing nothing in class.' He placed the Now, maybe I should test this on someone who deserves to die, but who? He sets the notebook on his desk as her contemplates on his test subject.'

As if a sign from the heavens, the news broadcast interrupts Light's thoughts "Hello folks, I'm your news reporter, Yoshiki Kazou. And I am currently reporting to you live outside the daycare where the 8 hostages of Otoharada Kurou, better known as the Shinjuku Killer, are being held hostage at gunpoint!" The news reporters voices became static in Light's head, this must have been fate! He quickly began to write the killer's name down, "Otoharada Kurou, let's see if book actually works." It had been 10 seconds, then 20 and then 30 and 40 seconds and 50 seconds...of course this thing was a sham, he shouldn't have expected an- "Hold on folks!" The news reporter said, captivating Light's interest again. He noticed a police officer whispering in the guy's ear with a mix of shock and excitment on his face.

"We have just been informed by the police that Otaharada has collapsed by what they can only assume is a heart attack! 2 out of the 8 hostages have managed to leave the premises unscathed". Light covered his mouth with his hands, to conceal the loud gasp he had let out. "N-No way" He whispered as he stared down at the page where he had written the killer's name. "That just...that has to a coincidence! There's no way. It was just once, there could be other factors as to why that...that guy died. I need to test this thing out if I want to find out though."

(Nov 29, 2003)
(Light Yagami's POV)
Light was walking back from cram school, it had been only a day so he was still shocked at the coincidental timing of the Shinjuku killer's death and him writing that very man's name down. Though his attention left his thoughts and immediately latched onto the scene unfolding in front of him. A young woman - probably a college student - being harassed by what seemed to be a bunch of wannabe gangsters. "Hey, sexy!" The guy began to catcall her. If he thought that was gonna get him any woman, then he must have be stupid.

"Wanna spend a night with the coolest dude ever? Takuo Shibuimaru himself, in the flesh baby!" Light immediately noticed the discomfort on the unfortunate woman's face - who was politely declining that scumbag's advances. Light was foolishly about to let the conflict solve itself before the dude, in a fit of rage and humiliated at the woman's response, began to grope her and say something Light could only assume was some attempt at flirtation. And that's when Light finally remembered the death note that he kept in his backpack since he was too afraid of any of his family finding it and trying it out themselves.

He took the notebook out and hoping it wasn't some nickname, began writing his name - 'Takuo Shibuimaru' - in every spelling he could, with the cause of his death being a street accident. And he began waiting, now knowing that if the notebook is the real thing, then you have to be patient with it. And he was right, and he was shocked when the dude jumped in the middle of the street, talking about how he was immortal and that nothing could hurt him before karma got him and he got hit by a truck. Saying Light Yagami was terrified was an understatement, he almost dropped the notebook with how sweaty his hands had become. His breathing became heavier and he quickly shoved the...the death note in his bag. He had murdered someone...no, he has murdered two people. 'There's no way that guy jumped on his own will, t-this notebook's the real thing!'

He stared at his own hands, hands that were now metaphorically stained with the blood of two people, two people that...did they deserve it? Did they deserve to die? 'I'm a murderer! I killed two people!' He thought to himself, standing still with fear. 'What would dad think of me? What would my family think of me? What would Aya, my friends, ANYONE think of me if they found out?' But as if a light switch went off in Light's head. A smirk cracked onto his face.

'But these men, these pests on the world. They deserved to die! They were rotten. Messing with the good people of this world! Maybe with this, I can help more people. I-I don't even need to care if I don't have the guts to face my family or my friends, no one will know it's me, they possibly can't! How could they possibly track these deaths to a super-natural notebook? I-I'm like a god! Something beyond human recognition! I'll get rid of evil for the sake of humanity! Someone has to do it after all, all I need is a name and face. No one else can do it BUT me! It must have been faith!'

And so went time skipped, the time being five days. Five days he spent writing names after school all the way till midnight. He would sit down by his desk, turn on the tv set that sat there on the desk in front of him and whatever criminal would show up on screen would become his next victim. But unfortunately, he wasn't the only one noticing the sudden decline of crime in Japan.

(Dec 3, 2003)
(Light Yagami's POV)
Light Yagami had come back from cram school and he immediately noticed Aya in the kitchen, helping his mother even though she hated cooking. Hearing the door open, she turned greeting Light with a quick smile before turning back. While managing to ignore his little sister's relentless teasing, he responded with a quick 'hey' back before walking upstairs. He could feel Aya's eyes glaring into the back of his head like a killer - but he could deal with that later, 'Kira' was needed by the people. Kira being a name his followers had created for him, smart - obviously since they believed in Kira. As soon as Light locks the door behind him, the first thing he notices is the 8(?) foot tall giant with wings on it's back staring at the small basket of apples in his room. Light was dumb-founded, 'Am I drunk?' He thought before realizing there was no way. And realizing that - he fell onto the floor, screaming before realizing he was too loud and covering his mouth with his hands. Though he was certain someone must have heard him. "WHO ARE YOU?!" He scream-whispered, if that was even possible.

The over the top reaction was amusing to the Shinigami, who introduced himself as 'Ryuk' with a chuckle. When Light composed himself, he asked the Shinigami why he was here before answering the question himself with certainty that the...the Shinigami was here to kill him for using it's death note. The assumption made the Shinigami laugh as he responded 'no' in a raspy voice. Light looks confused as it commented on how it's impressive how many names he's written in only 5 days! He asks if the Shinigami here to take the Death Note back. "Well, even If I wanted to kid, It's technically your property now, once a human has taken a notebook, it belongs to the human world." He said, sounding as if he was finished before adding one more thing. "Oh, and the name's Ryuk, kid." Light audibly sighs in relief before nodding slowly and telling the Shinigami that the reason he's been able to kill that many people is through heart attacks. "The people have already realized that someone's behind this, they've decided to follow me, support me and realized the world needs to be cleansed of killers and rapists and evil-doers, I'm their God, Ryuk". "But kid, if every killer was dead, wouldn't you be the only killer left?" Ryuk asks him, confused on human logistics.

"Me? Come on, Ryuk! Killers only want to see the world burn and people cry. They're are cruel, unjust and weak. A God that kills those type of rodents are what should be left! Gods have to sacrifice after all, and you've probably seen, but I'm already apart of the Gods people worship. Knowing that, I'll make this world pure! I'll be God of a serene world!" Light monologed on how the world would bend to his will, being Japan's number 1 student had it's perks after all. Moreover he mentioned how Aya, Sayu and anyone else would have blown their cover by screaming loudly at the presence of a Shinigami. How no one else could or would have even thought of an idea like this. As Ryuk listened, he couldn't help but mutter to himself.
