Summary
Shane starts smoking at twenty-seven and gets addicted. Years later, after retirement and a long fight to quit, he and Ilya finally become parents to a daughter named Katya. Four months later, Shane relapses.
Shane responds the way he responds to most things: with rules. Smoke outside. Never smoke around Katya. Never lie to her about it. As Katya grows up and her questions get bigger, Shane and Ilya do their best to answer them honestly.
A series of connected vignettes about addiction, shame, parenthood, and the difference between what Shane believes about himself and what the people who love him see.
Post-TLG and canon compliant except that Ilya is a non-smoker and Shane is addicted to nicotine. The title is a play on Love in the Time of Cholera.
