    Inspired by a tumblr post by @goldenaltar about a no astrophage/space diplomacy AU I literally could NOT stop thinking about since I first read it.

    The first collaboration between eridians and humans involves planning for a proper first contact, out in space so their respective interstellar trip times are cut (approximately) in half. Grace was conscripted for ‘Project Neighborhood’ as one of many biologists on the team. He sneaks out to the tunnel connecting their ships after hours to try and catch a glimpse of a Real Life Alien - and there's an eridian on the other side who has the exact same idea.

    When their sneaking around catches up to them, they're forced to consider the implications of all this sneaking around, and maybe lean into them a little to keep from being thrown out the nearest airlock - or starting an intergalactic war.
