Chapter Text

Stan stares at the little piece of paper in his hand then at Bebe who gestures at him to read the note.

She waits for him to do it.

So he does.

Stan I can't fix you

I'm tired of all this and I can't take it

I don't love you anymore and I don't think you do either

So I'm ending it

Goodbye Stan

He feels like he can't breath.

"She...she's breaking up with me?"

"Why? I haven't done anything."

Bebe looks at him.

"Are you for real right now? Of course it's because you didn't do anything that's the point."

"I..I...where is she?"

"Stan.."

"Please Bebe? I need to talk to her about this...I want to hear it from her."

Bebe sighed and looked at him pitifully before she takes a breath and nods.

"Fine...she's out in that little area by the chain fence behind the corner."

Stan heart pounding goes over turning the words over in his mind.

I don't love you

I can't fix you

I'm tired of this

He knows he hasn't been the best boyfriend in the past but...this just sending Bebe with a note.

Stan has to hear her reasoning.

Wendy is sitting down writing something in a notebook.

She looks up and her face sours when she sees who it is.

"I want to be alone Stan."

"Bebe told me you were here,I want to hear you tell me...Why Wendy?"

"What did I do wrong?"

Frankly he had been afraid to speak to her over text after how she blew up at him over something he can't even remember a couple weeks ago...but...seems she was still upset and mad enough to break up with him over it at that, even if she does he needs to know the answer.

She's quiet before she sets her notebook on her lap not even bothering to stand up.

"Why?"

"What do you mean why Stan?"

"You know what you did...you've been ignoring me...we haven't talked for a week."

"When was the last time you did anything for me instead of hanging out with Kyle all the time?"

"That's..."

"And you know what's soon Stan? Valentines Day and you never said anything about us doing something for that either."

"But...it's weeks away isn't it?"

"That's not the point Stan!"

"You never think things through...never say that you care about me,when was the last time you said I love you?"

He paused.

She had a point when was the last time he'd said that?

Not just to her but that he cared about anyone else...he hadn't said anything like that to anyone recently not even his mom.

"So..is that what this is about?"

Wendy sighs. Before deciding to make sure he understands just how she feels.

"I'm tired Stan...I can't keep doing this."

"I can't fix you...so I'm not going to continue on with this...I'm done...we're done."

"But..."

"I don't love you Stan so go...we're finished,it's over."

"Get that through your thick head."

"Leave me alone,I don't want to talk to you."

"Maybe we can be friends but right now...I want you to go."

"Now."

It was harsh but unlike the note it was clear and precise.

Stan can't help the tears that form in the corners of his eyes,Wendy saw them and she almost felt guilty from being so harsh with him but she remained stone faced.

"Goodbye Stan."

She ignored him returning to her notebook.

Stan felt cold but he wiped the tears from his eyes and leaves her as that feeling spreads through his chest.

His expression was blank as he walked over to Kyle and sat down on the grass.

"Huh...Stan?"

He makes no response.

"Dude?" The redhead taps his shoulder.

Still nothing.

Kyle's about to say something else but then Stan speaks.

"She left me."

"What?"

"Wendy...broke up with me."

"O-Oh I see,uh sorry to hear about that.."

Stan didn't want Kyle's pity right now but...he says nothing again.

Making no emotions.

Feeling numb.

Her words echoed in his head the rest of the day.

Guilt, regret other emotions he was too upset to name.

He'd been trying to do better this time,it seemed like it was going well.

Until it wasn't.

It started with little things.

Wendy made some comments about how he forgot to do something.

Sure he was guilty of that he'll admit that.

But..she blew off him several times and whenever he tried to say something she ignored that and turned it around to what he didn't do.

How was that fair?

It wasn't but he couldn't say anything or it turned into a fight.

Other things had piled up and up and up from his end and her end until it lead to a tower of issues that stacked higher and higher until one little piece fell out and the whole thing went crashing down.

He can't even focus on class.

The only solace was that it was Friday and he could wallow in his misery for the next two days.

For the rest of the school day he's basically a zombie.

Shuffling from place to place.

Kyle tried to get his attention but Stan was apathetic and unresponsive.

Until finally the bell rings for the school day and into that sweet weekend time.

Mr Garrison waves them off too focused on whatever he had going on in his soap dramas.

And they all run out, most of them.

Ready to start the weekend.

Stan shuffled out into the yard and on the bus.

Still motionless with no expression.

Same hollow blank look in his eyes and on his face.

Kyle tried to get Stan to open up and talk to him but couldn't get him to react and stops for now.

He gets off the bus and went to the door slowly turned the knob and went inside.

Sharon his mom looks at him when he gets in the kitchen.

"Stan?"

He says nothing.

"Stan are you okay? Are you sick?"

"My girlfriend broke up with me." He says no emotion.

"Oh..oh Stan..I see..it'll be okay.."

"It's not...my whole life is ruined.."

"It's going to hurt at first, but after some time...you will alright?"

Sharon goes back to cooking dinner.

Stan laid his head against the table,as his mom cooked dinner.

Randy gets home and heads inside the kitchen now setting a bag on the table,he had a black eye.

"Oh my god Sharon you won't believe the day I had...see this guy flipped me off and.."

He goes on for several minutes about how the resulting fight in the parking lot at the grocery store wasn't his fault he was asking for it,but can he please get some ice for him.

"Randy I told you to stop picking fights at the store."

"It's not like that Sharon! He mooned me too!"

"Put those cheeks right up on the window and then he flipped me off again."

"He did that in his car before fighting you?"

"No it was on my window, drivers side."

"He...put his butt on your window from the outside?"

"Yeah crazy isn't it?"

"Who did you even fight?"

"Oh some asshole named Brad or something I don't know I've seen him before at the bar."

"See this happened after I got out of the store so I kinda....ran after I decked him."

Sharon rolled her eyes and gets some ice.

Stan would have laughed if he wasn't so deep in his misery right now.

Randy sits down at the table.

'Huh what's with him?"

"His girlfriend broke up with him today Randy,so I suggest you tone down your...stories for the day."

"Oh."

"Well don't worry about it too much Stan, you know what they say."

"There's plenty of boobs in the sea."

"Uh wait a sec...fish right...plenty of fish in the romantic sea."

"But I don't want another fish..I want Wendy..."

Stan is dejected.

"Well son life's not fair, you got to grab that fish by the balls and then let it go."

"Randy that doesn't even make any sense." Sharon is feeling done with all this for the rest of the night.

"It's a metaphor Sharon."

Grandpa rolls in at this moment too and gives his opinion.

"In my day we had one fish and liked it none of these dating apps and several hot young models strutting around the place Billy."

"Grandpa.."

"Okay everyone let's calm down and eat dinner."

Sharon goes to call Shelly down muttering about fish, boobs and Randy being an idiot again.

Shelly gets downstairs and looks at Stan, she was going to say something but after seeing how miserable he looks she decides to be nice this time and leave him alone.

It was a simple dinner tonight, spaghetti and meatballs with a side of bread.

All of it looked delicious.

But after today Stan wasn't feeling that hungry he was tired, his stomach was upset and his appetite was in the gutter like his current emotional state.

He does eat a little but was picking more at his plate then anything.

"Stan...are you okay? You aren't eating much."

Sharon pressed gently.

"Ah he'll be fine Sharon he just needs to go and get over it."

Even Grandpa gives him a look that said this wasn't the time, not the same day it happened.

"I'm going to bed."

"Okay sure Stan run away from your feelings."

"Randy!" Sharon says angrily.

"What?"

Grandpa shakes his head and returns to his noodles.

Stan tunes out whatever else they all say on the way out.

He goes up to his room, locking the door so he won't be bothered anymore tonight.

Curling up on his bed like a wounded animal.

Kyle had texted him.

Stan?

Are you there?

You doing okay?

He looks at the messages for a couple minutes.

Before he tells him that he just needs to rest tonight and he'll talk with him tomorrow.

Kyle says he'll be there if he wants to talk and lets it go for the night.

Stan laid on the bed staring at the ceiling.

His heart was heavy.

And he can feel the exhaustion seeping into his body.

He's silent before his thoughts turn to Wendy again.

How did he screw up so badly.

Again.

It wasn't the first time.

And last time she'd gotten with Tolkien...he had no proof but after thinking about it he had a sneaking suspicion that she had gotten together with him before officially breaking up with him.

Which hurt more then the actual breaking up.

His head started to hurt as he crawled under a blanket.

And then he closed his eyes trying to let his thoughts drift and ignore the pain.

Eventually he falls into a restless sleep.

Stan wakes up sometime later and looks at the clock.

It was almost midnight.

He gets up and goes downstairs,it's quiet seemed that everyone was asleep or at the very least they were in their rooms.

Peeking in the kitchen he sees his dad on the floor some wine glasses were on the table maybe five different bottles were sitting beside the glasses, some beer bottles were on the floor too.

Seemed that he was having one of his 'tastings' but he had some beer on the side as well.

A full case of beer was on the floor beside him.

Stan looks at him then at the bottles, then back to him.

Randy was snoring, laying on his stomach an empty bottle still clutched in his hand.

He slowly, quietly shifts over the bottles and mess around the floor, taking the untouched case and slipping into the backyard, sitting on the steps under the moonlight.

Popping off a cap.

He puts the bottle to his lips but hesitated.

Am I...really going to..

It's...if I...

Will I?

I shouldn't..

I shouldn't..but..

Stan thinks of Wendy again, the cold words and her callousness when she crushed his heart in the yard.

The bitter brew smell is on his tongue as he holds it still,un moving until..

He gives in to his darker impulses and drinks the bottle.

Then a second.

He's halfway through the third one and he stops feeling very out of it now.

His awareness was clouding and he drops the almost empty bottle on the ground.

But he was at least of a mind he needed someone with him.

Stan stumbled out of the yard.

He goes to Kyle's house.

The walk is long with how foggy his head is even though he can get there in minutes.

However now his sense of time was warped.

But he does get there safely,as safe as one can be when they're near plastered.

He goes to the window and throws a pebble at it,then another.

Ringing the doorbell would wake up everyone in the house so this he'd do to get his attention.

The light turned on and through blurry vision he sees him go to the window and open it.

"Kyle...Kyle I need you right now.."

"I need you to let me in.."

"Please..."

"I...I'm really drunk..."

Stan managed to get the words out coherent enough but his speech was slurred.

He hiccups and he thinks he can see the persons eyes widen before shutting the window.

The light turns off and he moves to the front door.

Stan was quite intoxicated by this point.

But he does hear the steps as he goes down the stairs, they're so quiet he must be trying to not wake up Ike and his parents.

He's close enough to the door it's loud to him,or maybe his senses are skewed because of the beer and everything felt so intense.

Door opens and he feels the other tense up slightly as he falls into his arms no longer able to stand,Kyle says nothing he feels him move backwards and pull him inside enough to close the door, but then the weight shifts and Kyle carefully takes him to the floor.

"Oh...Kyle."

"I..I messed up,I messed up so bad.."

"With Wendy..with all.."

"All this."

Stan feels his eyes well up with tears.

He can't hold back his emotions anymore and he cried into his shirt.

Drunkenly babbling about how he'd felt all day.

His heartbreak.

How he regrets everything.

And how bad he thinks it all is.

All his negative thoughts and emotions are spilling out half audible.

Clutching his shirt, face buried in his chest, tears and now snot were running down his face and all over Kyle's shirt.

"Kyle...I'm so sorry.."

"I made a mistake...I..I..."

Stan softly cries more.

Kyle says nothing, just continues to hold him and pet his back.

"I'm...so drunk right now...haha..."

"Augh.."

"Eugh I...I think I'm going to be sick in a couple minutes here."

His eyes were closed as his head still laid on his chest,he can feel Kyle's heart beating.

It was soothing.

Stan doesn't move when he feels himself leave the ground as he's carried up the stairs into the bathroom.

Kyle holds him steady as he puked his guts out.

"Ah...I shouldant havve drrank thoose beerrsh."

His speech was slurring bad now as inebriation and tiredness hit him not to mention his crying.

His friend waited until he was finished then carried him out of the bathroom into his bedroom.

Gently laying him on the bed and putting a cover over him.

Stan eyes closed again as he started breathing a little easier now that his stomach was emptied of some of the alcohol.

Vaguely he knows he's likely going to have a terrible hangover later in the morning but...he doesn't care, right now Kyle is here and he's warm and safe, cared for...

He hears Kyle leave the room and gets distressed.

But he can't move so he struggles calling to him.

"Kyle...wait...don't leave me.."

"Please.."

But as soon as he left he's there again and he calmed down again.

Stan feels a plastic bottle touching his mouth.

A few drops touch his lips and he instinctively licked them.

It's water.

He was rather thirsty now after all that.

Stan feels the prodding at his lips as Kyle's finger opens his mouth and very carefully lets a little water go in,he opens his eyes again and slowly starts sipping on his own,the bottle is tilted little by little as he drinks.

Until half is gone and he closed his mouth again,he hears the sound of the cap screwing on and it being sat on the nightstand.

"Thanks man..."

He laid there immobile, arms and legs like lead.

"Kyle...I want to say, you're my best friend and...nothing would be the same without you."

"But..ugh I..don't think I can move anymore tonight.."

"It's okay."

Kyle's voice is soft,almost a whisper.

"Please, can you stay with me,just until I fall asleep?"

"Yes."

He sits on the bed.

Stan had moved on his side and he feels circles being traced on his back.

"Mmm...feels..nice."

"Please..keep doing...that.."

The soft touches continue along his spine, lower back and shoulders.

Stan feels warm, comfortable and safe as he settled into the bed.

He was so sleepy now.

But it was fine,he can sleep,Kyle promised to stay with him until he was asleep and he's stayed so far.

As the fingers still traced on his skin he feels the blankets warmth leave him,hat being removed and then his coat being unbuttoned and taken off.

"What..are you doing Kyle?"

"You..will...get.."

"Too warm.."

Stan was laying on his back now, still sinking into the bed.

His gloves are taken off too, then his shoes.

He did feel more comfortable then before now.

"Mmm."

He can hear movement as something is set down and fabric folding near him before it's also set down somewhere.

Before long he felt some soft touches along his chest, heart and finally on his stomach.

That makes him wiggle.

"Ahhh..quit it Kyle.."

"Shush."

"Let me...work.."

He feels a calming, warm feeling spread from his stomach to the rest of his body.

But he felt so much better after it was done, still he felt like he can't move or open his eyes.

The blanket returned to caress him with it's soft fuzzy texture and he makes a little sigh,as he smells something sweet and spicy on the fabrics.

It added to how comfortable he felt right now.

"Stan.."

"You...need,to sleep.."

"I know Kyle.."

"I'm so so tired.."

"Sleep."

The soft voice cooed at him.

He feels his head being pat and stroked now.

That was different but he kinda liked it.

Stan tried to focus on the soft patting until he can't remain awake any longer and falls asleep.

Much more peaceful then the last time.

The other seeing he was deep in sleep now goes to the closet and pulled out a spare blanket before changing the shirt and going downstairs to the couch.

Stan sleeps for the next several hours it felt like.

Sun shines through the window and eventually the rays help wake him up.

He groans a little not wanting to move from the warmth and soft blankets.

But he looks at the clock,it's about nine something in the morning.

Stan blinked, his mind was still clouded by sleep but he was awake enough.

Surprisingly hangover free as well.

He sits up as he takes in his surroundings.

Wait..where am I?

Stan tried to recall last nights events.

He remembered getting  very drunk and that he was going to Kyle's house, everything after that is blurry.

It's all in bits and pieces.

But he does remember the feeling of being warm and safe.

However...this wasn't Kyle's room.

Just who's house was he in?

He can't tell from first glance, there's things scattered around that seem to lean toward it being a boys room.

But also a few plush toys and some..sort of statue on the desk that looked like a girl.

With a tail?

He shakes his head as he looked by the nightstand and sees his clothes and shoes on the floor folded up neatly.

Right...he sorta remembers now.

After crying and puking all his stomach contents he was carried onto the bed.

He..drank some water,he thinks.

His shoes and coat were taken off and then he was calmed down until he went into a drunken sleep.

But now the question was who did all that then?

Sleeping in their bed at that.

Whoever it was smelled nice though he can still smell some sort of nice shampoo lingering on the blanket and pillows.

He needs to know who it was.

But...he needs to be quiet...it was the weekend and he had no idea who might still be asleep.

So he peeked out the door,he can hear snoring from the other room, must be his parents then so he'll avoid that.

Bathroom door is open, there's another spare room he opens that and it's empty.

There had to be a couch downstairs then...that must be where the person is assuming he's still sleeping.

Stan carefully made his way to the top of the stairs,he can see a figure on the couch laying down under a blanket, couch cushion under their head.

He gets halfway down the stairs before he can see details.

Dark short hair and somewhat delicate features, wearing a loose dinosaur shirt,he can see the pattern.

Eyes still closed sleeping.

He gets a little closer and the face is in his view.

D is sleeping on the couch.

Stan is stunned before the anxiety sets in,D had been the one who carried him upstairs.

And who he spilled all his drunken thoughts to last night.

Just how drunk had he been to think he was Kyle.

He doesn't even remember what all he said but this...he can't believe he did that to someone he's a casual friend with.

They don't have a close bond but it's not like they dislike each other.

But still...being in his house like this after all that.

It was way too embarrassing...he's glad he can't remember what he said or it would be worse.

Now however there was the issue of how D saw him a drunken mess and talking after that in the morning.

He doesn't want to face D like this...not until he'd had a day for him to forget about the finer details.

I can

Yeah I can get my things and just slip away

Before he wakes up

Is what he thought.

But the only problem was.

D was now awake.

Still laying under the blanket and looking right at him.

Oh...oh no...

Notes:

There's a lack of Stan,NK interactions let alone romance so I'm here to change that, not sure if it's quite a rare pair but here we go XD

Also the new kid is called D in most of my stories that aren't alt universe
