Work Text:
It was a bad day.
Was Percy’s first thought while closing the apartment door. After being late to classes which he forgot to do reading for, then having to go to his shift at a coffee shop where someone spilled their drink on him twice, Percy just wanted to spend the evening in peace with his girlfriend. Of course fate isn’t on his side so he had to fit in fighting a monster before that happened.
But finally he was home and he could hear quiet sounds of Fleetwood Mac playing while Annabeth softly turned pages of the book she chose today. Percy instantly smiled at the image in his head and moved farther down the hall so the sight is not only in his imagination.
It was even better than what his head could come up with. His girlfriend was sitting on the couch, back turned to him, braids gathered on top of her head in a bun, flipping through pages with an intense look. He would never understand how he got to be with someone so amazing and beautiful.
Annabeth, consumed by the book must have not heard him coming cause she was startled a bit when he came up behind her wrapping his arms around her neck.
„Hey, it’s only me.” he said quietly, bending down to kiss her head. She turned her head to look at him with this beautiful smile of hers that made him melt and forget about all the bad that ever happened.
„Hello my love.” she answered, equally soft not to break the atmosphere.
„What are you reading that got you so focused?” Percy asked, moving around the couch and lifting Annabeth’s legs before laying down and putting them back on his.
„Oh just some crime story. I’m trying to figure out who’s the killer.” She answered with her eyes already back on the book. They sat like that peacefully for a few minutes until she finished the chapter. When she was done she put away the book on the coffee table and turned to look at her boyfriend.”How was your day?”
Percy sighed and gave a small unconvincing smile „It was okay.”
Annabeth gave him a look which meant she wasn’t buying his bullshit. It wasn’t as if he thought it would work anyway, since she knew him better than he knew himself.
„Well maybe not okay okay but I didn’t die so it’s okay.” Percy sighed again and told her all about the day.
Annabeth shifted from sitting to lying next to him mid-story. After hearing about the monster, she pulled back slightly, her eyes filled with worry as she checked him for wounds. She relaxed a bit when she saw that no new marks had been left on his skin.
„…but now I’m home and that's all that matters.” he said after recounting the day’s events.
„I’m sorry baby. Do you feel better now?” Annabeth said, kissing the closest part of him that happened to be his jaw.
„Now that you’re here.” He responded with a kiss to her temple. After few minutes in silence Percy whispered „Hey,”
„Yeah?” She murmured
„Thank you for always being here”
Annabeth then turned her face to look at him fully and said softly, „I’m not going anywhere, get used to it.”
He smiled at her with pure adoration, leaning in to kiss her. It was a slow, comforting kiss—one that carried the full weight of their love.
They stayed like that for a few moments before Annabeth started to get antsy.
„Is there anything I can do to make you feel better? Food, warm bath, what about a movie?” She asked not liking when her boyfriend is down and not being able to do anything about it.
Percy of course knew the questions would come because as much as Annabeth knows him he knows her just as much, „It’s okay all I need from you is to stay right where you are and snuggle with me a bit. That would make me very happy” he replied with a gentle smile, bringing her closer to him in their position on the couch and signed, this time in relief.
Annabeth looked at him with a bit of worry for a few more seconds before concluding he isn’t lying to her and relaxed, kissing his shoulder gently before laying her head in that place, „I can do that.” she said softly, bearing herself deeper in his side with a little smile on her face.
