Chapter Text
Light woke up with a dull ache in his head and far more clarity than the night before. He blinked, his vision blurry as his eyes adjusted. The sunlight from his curtains painted his room in soft golds, though it was far too bright to wake up to. He cursed himself for leaving the curtains open the night prior as he stretched.
L’s side of the bed was empty.
He sat up, rubbing at his eyes until they’d focus on the empty space where the detective been laying hours prior. His jeans were still tossed across Light’s floorboards, his shirt somewhere near Light’s desk. For a few moments, Light was sure that he’d made the biggest mistake of his life. L must’ve regretted it enough to leave without another word, his dad must know by now too-
That’s when he noticed the lights on in the bathroom.
He stood up, yawning as he stretched his arms above his head. Grabbing his robe, he slipped into the bathroom.
L was on his knees beside the trashcan, shoulders tense and his hair half tied up in a bun with some stray hair tie Light must’ve had in his bathroom. He glanced up at the noise of the door, his gaze softer on Light than usual for only a few seconds before he gaged again.p and turned away.
”…I hate this…” he murmured, his voice almost pitiful as he wiped his mouth on a towel. Light had just washed that one, plus it was a white towel, if it had been anyone else he would’ve been pissed.
But L Lawliet wasn’t really just anyone.
”Told you not to drink so much,” Light scoffed as he straightened up. He sat down just behind L, ignoring the man’s whines of complaint as he tugged him backwards.
”What are you…doing...?”
His hands settled onto L’s hips, his chest pressed flush against the detective’s back. L didn’t struggle much, it would’ve been a waste if he did. Light’s closeness was a soothing warmth, and L didn’t want to really be away from him anyway. Not that he would ever tell.
They stayed like that for a few minutes, L laid back against Light’s chest. The brunette’s fingers traced small patterns on L’s inner thighs, memorising the soft skin there. For someone as cold and distrustful as L, it was a decent surprise that L allowed him to do so. He buried his face into L’s neck after a minute or two of silence, lazily kitten licking the skin there and laughing at the huffs of annoyance as the detective squirmed.
”Quit,” he whined, laying back further against Light’s chest, “I don’t feel well, Light-chan…”
“I know. That’s your fault.”
”…Light-chan caused it.”
”I didn’t do anything!”
L tilted his head, just enough to side eye Light before turning around, practically tossing himself back against Light’s chest again.
”Dramatic much?”
“I’m tired…I want to go back to bed…”
”Why don’t you?”
”It doesn’t feel…right,” he nipped at his lower lip as he spoke, the familiar habit subtle but Light could tell what he was doing.
He rested his hands over Light’s, watching the brunette’s fingers resume tracing mindless shapes on his inner thighs yet again. It tickled slightly, but it felt nice enough that L got over the feeling quickly. More so it the gentleness of Light’s fingertips that made him relax again.
”What are we?”
”…I don’t know, L,” Light muttered.
”What do you want to be?”
Light squeezed L’s thigh without saying anything more, pressing a kiss to the small spot under L’s ear for a reaction. In return, the detective flushed, soft pink spreading across his pale skin.
“…Misa was quick to give you away last night,” L whispered almost under his breath, his voice fluttery and barely over a whisper.
“Huh?”
”She’s known I loved you for a while,” L smiled, “said that I could have you if I wanted you.”
“Do you want me?”
The question wasn’t answered, not with words anyhow. L turned around on Light’s lap, straddling him, and didn’t hesitate to lean in this time. L still tasted like strawberries when he was sober, surprisingly the only differences was that now he tasted sweet and there wasn’t any lingering taste of vodka on the detective’s lips.
”My god,” Light mumbled, “you’re fun to kiss.”
L’s fingers tangled in Light’s soft hair, his lips melting with Light’s over and over again. Light’s hands squeezed the detective’s hips, forcibly pulling him closer until L gave in. He rolled his hips in slow circular motions, gasping as he felt Light’s clear arousal press up against his own.
“Take me to bed,” L rasped against Light’s lips, “show me you love me, Kira.”
L couldn’t stop himself from squeaking as Light stood up along with him, arm tossed around the detective’s waist. He liked being manhandled, of course it was only ever on his terms, but he couldn’t deny he had quite the kink for it nonetheless as he was set down on Light’s bed.
Light watched him stretch against his sheets, his long limbs soft under Light’s fingertips.
He wanted L to feel him, to be his and his alone. He wanted the only person allowed to touch L to be him. He wanted his fingerprints stuck to L’s skin. Wanted his hands to be the only ones L would ever respond to, the only ones who could make him act like this.
It was late in the morning, too late for an act as private as such was, but it didn’t stop either of them. Light made love to L, bare and gentle because L wouldn’t want him in any other way.
His lips touched what felt like everywhere on the detective’s body, his tongue finding each soft spot on L that made him moan or blush, but rarely he did both.
Light liked seeing him like that, clearly knowing that he was loved and basking in his affection as if Light was sunlight to him. Perhaps he was.
Trust was a word not often used when it came to L, but Light could swear that it felt true to the moment. He begged for Light’s lips, for his hands and his mouth. He watched L gasp his name, his desire spilling under Light’s hands and body alone.
L was moonlight. Pale and glowing and brighter than the most full moon. Basking in the attention of his light, of his sun-kissed lover. He was a god, he was ethereal and beautiful and holier than all the angels in the heavens. He was paradise and torture at once.
Light was the sun. L was the moon. They made the most beautiful eclipse.
As he cradled L to his chest, the detective still naked and already asleep again with his face buried into soft brunette hair, an odd feeling bloomed in Light’s stomach, not like the heat of arousal but something soft and fluttering.
Butterflies, wasn’t that what the media called it?
Maybe some of them were true. Of course, it wasn’t the same way as Hollywood painted it, but he really did want L.
In lazy mornings like this, in heated kisses like before, and every time after. He could imagine it now, waking up each morning to the feeling of too warm presses of skin against skin, or in slow kisses to his face waking him up.
If he hadn’t heard his door open, he would’ve stayed like that forever.
Panic was the first thing he processed, immediately and in the adrenaline rush sitting up in bed with the blankets pulled over him.
The second was his sister in the doorway.
“L-?”
“It’s not what it looks like!”
Sayu glanced between Light and the man on his bed, the detective’s naked body luckily covered by blankets though she knew who he was. It’d been a few years since she’d seen him but it was hard to not recognise L, given how…odd and untraditional he was.
”You never told me about….this,” Sayu stared L down, then looked back to her brother, “Does dad know?”
”No, and he can’t know, understand? He can’t-!”
“I get it, geez. Mom made breakfast if you plan to join.”
A pause.
”Will you tell me what this,” she gestured between the detective and her brother, “later?”
“Fine just get out!”
As the door clicked shut, Light was on his side, shaking L awake but no avail.
“L, get up. Come on, wake up!” He huffed, shaking his shoulder.
”mmmwhat….?” A small voice, still half asleep and raspy interrupted him.
Light slipped his hands onto L’s hips, pulling him out of the small wedged area he’d made for himself between the blankets and Light’s chest. As L realised what was happening, he squirmed, mustering short comments about his very clear annoyance at being woken up.
”Must you wake me?”
”Breakfast is ready, I have to go, L.”
”…do I have to go?”
”Get up.”
He stood up as he spoke, giving L no time to react as he was tugged up into standing. The first thing Light noticed was L’s thighs and, more prominently, the small bites and purple hickeys that stained his pale skin like ink.
”Can I borrow clothes from you, Light-chan?”
“Fine just…behave. Please.”
”What should I tell Soichiro if he asks?”
“You were drunk, nothing more, L.”
Light strided over his closet, grabbing two of each thing he needed. Boxers, pants, and shirts.
It was more subconscious than a real thought, but he’d grabbed L his far more comfortable clothing. An oversized shirt, his softer more comfortable boxers, and warm pyjama pants that certainly didn’t fit him, but they’d fit L’s slimmer body nicely. He didn’t try to get socks for L, it would’ve been a waste and he was sure they’d be off of him. He tossed L’s clothing over to the bed where the detective watched him dress. First his boxers, then his pants and his shirt.
L clearly liked the view, Light knew that because he didn’t start changing until Light was fully dressed and waiting for him.
Almost as soon as the detective was finished changing, Light found himself barely able to move with him at his side. L’s lips, kiss-bruised from the other man’s love, pressed against Light’s jaw over and over again, quietly pleading for him to go back to bed instead.
”What about the marks?”
“You’ll be fine.”
”Light, I should just leave-“ “You’re not leaving. Not after that.”
L didn’t put up much of a fight as Light’s arm wrapped around his waist again. Didn’t fight as he kissed him, his deep and almost velvety as he guided him to the bedroom door.
”Cheater.”
”When did I ever play fair?” Light chuckled, warm and bubbly as he tugged L with him down the stairs. The wood was cold under L’s feet, mainly due to his lack of socks, but it didn’t really bother him much. Following behind Light was easy, ignoring the open stares from Soichiro was harder.
He sat down beside Light, his hand finding Light’s under the table. L squeezed once, twice, until Light squeezed back.
”You brought…him…home?” Soichiro took a sip of his coffee as he watched Light, his eyes narrowed on L. “And you agreed?”
”I was drunk, Light-kun didn’t want to risk me getting hurt since Watari had already driven home so he took me. I didn’t have a key with me either, so Light offered to let me stay the night.”
Light slid a cup of tea to L, watching him take it and sip at it. Clearly Light had already put in the sugar because it was sweet and warm, perfect to L’s specific taste.
Sayu had been watching the two anyhow, but she seemed to be paying more attention now that Light had made a move. She noticed small things at first, hand holding under the table and obviously the shared cup of tea, but there was one thing that was painfully obvious to her.
The simple way Light looked at L was just about anything but platonic. Of course, Sayu at first had just thought she was seeing them wrong before she’s walked in on them…well, doing that. Too many romance books and rom-coms, obviously.
But this was clearly more than that.
Light’s gaze, normally cold and closed off, was suddenly so caring and soft as he watched L. His expression was far more relaxed than Sayu had seen him in years, as if all his attention was on L and clearly that was more important than stressing.
As she glanced at her father, it seemed he was seeing the same thing as her.
He watched Light’s gaze follow L’s lips, a quick almost secretive smile exchanged between the two for only a second. It was more than rare to see Light care so much about someone, or even care at all, but the way Light obviously loved L was more than just that.
Soichiro couldn’t help but notice that even L seemed softer around Light, more human. As if Light was a soft spot to him.
Light got up a few minutes later after making small conversation to get himself breakfast, coming back a few moments later with two plates. His own was simple, some toast with cinnamon and eggs on the side, whereas L’s plate a few pieces of leftover strawberry and what looked like sakura mochi from dinner the night prior.
“I was saving that!” Sayu whined, “How come he gets special treatment, that’s my leftovers!”
”Oh please, like you need any more sweets.”
“Light!”
”He’s a guest, and besides there’s more leftover. You’ll be fine,” Light slid the plate infront of L. The detective glanced up just for a second or so, obviously making sure it was alright before he started eating.
It wasn’t often L had mochi, typically it was harder to get in the bulk amounts he ate and impossible to eat without a mess. He didn’t take breaks from his cases, so that meant he couldn’t have it that often. He couldn’t say he’d had a lot of mochi, but even if he had he was sure that this must be the best he’d ever get.
Light didn’t mind sharing food as long as the other person hadn’t touched it, but L was obviously an exception. He’d taken a piece of strawberry mochi from L, paying no attention to the fact that he’d already taken a bite of it, that L’s lips had touched the same part that his were.
That, of course, didn’t go unnoticed by Soichiro.
He watched the way that L smiled at Light, just slightly as his hand very obviously found his under the table. It was painfully obvious to him that they were a thing, anyone from even a mile away could see that there was more than just friendship between the two.
After a few minutes of this and finishing breakfast, Light stood up, glancing at L to follow.
”I’ll be busy working on schoolwork, may I be left alone for the day?”
”With…him?” Soichiro glanced between the two; L was obviously standing far too close to Light, and in return he didn’t seem to mind it.
”Watari plans to call me when he’s able to pick him up, but otherwise, yes.”
”…fine.”
