Chapter Text
Lady Morgana watched with tears in her eyes as the stone covering of her deep cell opened, the light penetrating her eyes and making them burn almost as much as the cold iron around her wrists.
She still didn’t know how long she had been down there, she had just woken up in the cell after her last stitch attempt to save her kind and take the throne of Camelot failed.
She would never escape.
She had been thinking a lot.
She regretted everything.
She missed Camelot.
She missed Gwen.
She missed Arthur.
She missed Merlin.
She missed Gaius.
She missed a million and one things and people she had lost due to her betrayal.
She could have changed Arthur’s mind.
But now he’ll never trust her again.
Her sister had forced her away from her brother.
Now she had nobody.
A hunk of stale bread hit her on the head and a metal cup filled with water was lowered using the bucket that used to be used for the well that now contained the last high priestess of the old religion.
“Better drink it quickly, bitch. You won’t be getting any more for a while.”
That was a lie that only King Sarrum believed to be true.
The Queen constantly went behind her husbands back to give her water, food and, occasionally, medicine.
Morgana didn’t know why and the Queen would only ever say one thing
“Soon”
No matter the truth she still drank the water as quickly as she could and slowly ate the stale bread
At least it’s not moldy this time.
The king seemed to get distracted as he pulled the cup back to himself. So distracted in fact that he didn’t see the small robin fly down into the hole, carrying a letter in its beak.
The second the letter had landed in her hand the bird disappeared.
She quickly opened it as the king was still distracted and would need to get his guards to help him put the stone lid back over her
She only had a few moments to read the letter
It was from a young Druid girl that had came to her after her first attempt to take Camelot with her sister failed
Kara was her name.
She wanted Morgana in power more than anything.
An angry young lady
She was hardly 12 years old when she had last heard from her.
She was a friend of Mordred, well, more than friends.
They loved each other.
She missed Mordred as well.
She opened the letter.
My lady,
Arthur is trying to trap us! He announced that he has a “court sorcerer” and that “magic is legal and protected in Camelot”
He’s even holding a celebration in the lower town
Everyone seems so happy but we know the truth, don't we, my lady.
He’s trying to finish his fathers work, lure out all of us with magic so he can kill us.
But not to worry
I know you are in hiding, to the point where you will not risk your location even to send me a letter back.
But there is even worse news I write to you, my lady.
Mordred has betrayed us.
He is a knight of Camelot and word of the lower town is that the king treats him like his own, as if Mordred is his child!
The people call Mordred their prince!?
I will try to get him back, clearly he has been manipulated by the tyrant.
I will save him and together we will kill the king so you may come out of hiding.
Your fateful servant Kara
Magic allowed in Camelot?
Mordred a knight and seen as the prince?
Arthur doesn’t approve of dirty tricks like that.
She knows him, at least she used to.
This couldn’t be a trick!
But that means…
All she can hope is that Kara fails
That Mordred can stop her
The hole was covered again.
She didn’t need to close her eyes but she did anyway, determined to dream of a better life.
One where she is back with all those she loves and misses…
