Vampire(s) for Dummies

Lesson 16: How to Become a Vampire (a.k.a. The Epilogue)

************

With Izuku save in his arms, Shouto watched how everyone else took care of their attackers. The police arrived soon after and with them came a… person, a person who’s arrival caused Izuku to jump up and down in excitement. Shouto was glad he stopped the jumping soon because it wasn’t doing their hugging any good. He wasn’t going to let go though, so yeah, that needed to stop.

Shouto! This is Nedzu! The principal of U.A. and one of the first animals with a quirk!”, Izuku explained in excitement, his voice a low whisper. The… Nedzu still seemed to hear him, because they looked over to the pair and gave a short but friendly wave. Shouto was sure that Izuku would’ve fainted from fanboy-feels (Izuku’s phrasing) if it wasn’t for Shouto’s physical support. Together, they watched how the police and some other pro heroes took care of their attackers. They were tied up with special quirk suppressing handcuffs and then ushered into a few transporters. In the meantime, Midnight and Nedzu took care of explaining everything to the authorities. At some point, Shouto noticed that his boyfriend could barely keep his eyes open, so he picked Izuku up and carried him into the house, ignoring the tired protests.

************

When Izuku woke up the next afternoon, he felt like having a déjà-vu. Just like the previous time, Shouto had fallen asleep next to him with his head was resting on his folded arms, the pretty long hair unbound and flowing over his back. Sitting up, Izuku noticed that they were in one of Midnight’s guest rooms, the one he had slept in the other night. The night before the kidnapping, the night before the attack.

For a moment, Izuku appreciated the sight of his pretty boyfriend. He still couldn’t believe that he had gotten so lucky. Not in all those years of being bullied and overlooked had Izuku thought that he would ever find someone who not only loved him unconditionally but would also cherish him the way Shouto did. Izuku just hoped that with what had happened during the last forty-eight hours, Shouto wouldn’t change his mind and leave Izuku. Because even though they had a pre-mating bond and were destined to be soulmates, it wasn’t impossible for Shouto to go and leave Izuku. Well, Aizawa had said that it was a long and painful process until one would learn to live with the emptiness inside, but it was still possible to live without a mate. Just because it happened rarely and mostly because one of the bonded died, didn’t mean it wasn’t an option…

“You’re awake.” A gruff voice coming from the doorway interrupted Izuku’s train of thoughts. Looking up, he caught sight of Dabi. The older vampire looked over at them and seemed to think of something before he apparently made up his mind and entered the room.

“I just wanted to say sorry. For the whole… kidnapping thing. I… I love Shouto. He’s my little brother and I don’t want for him to get hurt again.”

Blue eyes stared at Izuku’s and begged him to understand what Dabi was trying to say. And Izuku did. He understood where Dabi was coming from. Nodding with hat he hoped to be reassurance, he reached out and patted Shouto’s head with feather-light touches.

“I love him. As long as he’ll let me, I won’t leave his side. And I’ll try my best to protect him from getting hurt in any way,” Izuku said quietly, looking up at Dabi with determination in his eyes. He meant every word, but he also made sure not to promise the impossible. And Dabi seemed to notice, because the corner of his mouth twitched, but instead of arguing, the older vampire just nodded.

“That’s good.” And without another word, Dabi left the room again.

************

Later that day when Shouto had woken up and they had cleaned up and eaten something (Midnight had ordered some blood bags for the coven), Izuku learned that Nedzu had taken All Might to a special prison of the supernatural community. The principal was apparently not only part of said community but also one of their supporters. He had made up an explanation for everything and while there was a lot of chaos caused by the number one hero being arrested, the genius made sure that his argumentation was flawless as usual.

With All Might being out of the way, there was nothing that prevented Izuku from going back home to his mother the following day. He had to do it alone, because it was quite sunny. That and Izuku also needed a break and check in with his mother on his own. Shouto had of course accompanied him in the car (Midnight drove them) but stayed inside once they arrived at Izuku’s. He would return later when Izuku would have had time to settle down and talk to his mother.

I’m home,” Izuku called out as he entered the apartment. Looking around, he saw nothing out of the usual. Which was to be expected, but part of Izuku had still been nervous about possible interrogation of All Might or someone of his supporters. Taking off his shoes, Izuku made his way into the living room… and stopped dead in his tracks. There, in their armchair sat his mother, her green eyes fixed on him. In her hand, she was holding a letter.

“Midoriya Izuku. Explain this,” she ordered sternly, holding the piece of paper out to him. One glance at the letter told Izuku what this was about. Namely their made up class trip to cover Izuku’s disappearance for the past few days. Izuku’s stomach dropped.

“Uhm… I don’t know what you mean, mom?,” Izuku said slowly, trying to figure out what was going on. Had his mother remembered? Shouto had said that the change he had made to Izuku's mother's memory would lose its effect if Inko thought about it too much. But they had done their best to cover their tracks…

I talked to Mitsuki the other day and guess what she told me? There is no class trip. There’s also no transfer from my bank account to pay for this trip of yours. So you better explain to me where you were for the past four days. And it better be a good explanation if you don’t want to be grounded for the rest of your life, son.”

I zuku blinked and stared at his mother. How could he have forgotten about her bank account? Or Bakugou Mitsuki? Looking into his mother’s face, Izuku knew that he would have to tell her the truth. There was no other way. He just hoped that the others would understand why he had to fill her in sooner th e n planned.

************

To say that Midoriya Inko was overwhelmed by all the information she got about her son, his new friends and boyfriend was an understatement. In fact, it took every ounce of persuasive power Izuku owned to keep her from calling the police, a psychologist or just packing their things and leave the country right then and there. In the end, it was mostly due to Shouto’s great first impression and Izuku’s refusal to leave his boyfriend, that Inko more or less accepted to stay and get to know everyone else for real. That didn’t mean that she was fine about him keeping this from her or the way All Might of all people had treated them. Needless to say that a few hours later, Izuku was drop dead tired and ready to go sleep in his own bed. Alas…

Knock, knock!

Looking up from the pillow he had buried his face in, Izuku couldn’t help but smile at the sight of his boyfriend. Shouto was sitting on his window sill, his long hair put together in a pretty braid and a soft smile on his face while he waved in greeting. Feeling motivated again, Izuku got up and over to the window to open it. He didn’t even wait until his boyfriend made it inside all the way before wrapping his arms around him, hiding his face in Shouto’s chest. He could hear the other chuckle lightly.

“Did you miss me that much, Izuku?,” Shouto said, one of his hands coming up to ruffle Izuku’s curls.

Humming in agreement, Izuku looked up at Shouto and pulled him inside all the way before closing the window again. Once that was done, he looked back at Shouto and scratched the back of his head awkwardly. He really didn’t want to talk about everything right now, but if he didn’t, then it might cause trouble later. It would be best if he just got it over with. Shouto must have sensed that something was off because the vampire frowned lightly, looking at Izuku with eyes full of worry.

“What’s wrong, Izuku?”

“Nothing… just… mom found out. I had to tell her. Everything.” Shouto looked confused for a moment before understanding what Izuku mend to tell him. He reached out and pulled Izuku into a hug. That… was a good sign, wasn’t it? Despite the comfort, it took a moment for Izuku to relax at least a bit.

“How did Inko take it?” Shouto asked after a while, his hand back up to play with Izuku’s curls. Honestly, he had kind of an obsession with them. But who was Izuku to complain? He was the same with Shouto’s beautiful hair.

“I think she’s okay now. But she wasn’t much of a fan of what All Might did. And she also didn’t like the memory alteration part. I think you lost a few points there.”

“Points?,” Shouto asked in confusion, reminding Izuku of how old the other actually was and what he had missed while being ‘dead’.

“Sympathy points. She might be a little… unhappy about what you did there. But she understands why we did it.”

Shouto hummed. “And… everything else?”

“About you being vampires? Or witches? Like I said, she doesn’t care about it. It’s similar like a quirk. I also told her about… our bond and that I might change too? She’s worried of course but she’s also happy for us.”

“That’s good, isn’t it?”

“Yeah…”

They stood there in silence for a few moments, both of them busy with thinking. It was Shouto who broke the silence.

“What do you mean with you might change? Did you… change your mind? Do you not want to anymore?”

Izuku’s head snapped up. “No! That’s not it, I swear.” Lowering his head, he started playing with his sleeves. “I just… do you really want me to stay around for the rest of your life? I mean look at all the trouble you got into because of me. I’d understand if you thought it wasn’t worth-”

Izuku did not get any further before his lips were sealed with a kiss.

“Izuku,” Shouto said once they parted again, his breath ghosting over Izuku’s face. “I would do everything to keep you by my side. If you will have me. I don’t care what obstacles we might have to overcome in the future, you will always be worth it. And do you know why?”

Izuku swallowed hard. Shaking his head, he tried to focus on what Shouto was saying instead of all the butterflies in his stomach.

“Because I love you. I will always love you, Midoriya Izuku.” The look in Shouto’s eyes told Izuku that his boyfriend was dead serious about this. There was so much determination and love in those pretty heterochromatic eyes it made Izuku happy beyond everything he had known before.

“And I will love you, Todoroki Shouto.”

************

Are you sure about this?,” Shouto couldn’t help but ask one more time. Izuku and him were standing on the rooftop of Izuku’s place, about a month later, the full moon shining down on them. They had taken their time to calm down, make plans and talk things through with everyone. Now, there was nothing left but complete the bond. Shouto was both excited and nervous. He knew what he had to do. Theoretically. And while he knew that Shouta and Hizashi were close by, ready to help if he called, he was still scared about messing up and hurting Izuku.

Yes, I am. I want this, Shouto,” Izuku said and smiled his bright smile while he squeezed Shouto’s hands with his.

Alright.” Taking a deep breath, Shouto pulled out the ceremonial dagger Shouta had given to him for this purpose. With care, he dragged it across his wrist, deep enough to draw blood.

Midoriya Izuku. Will you become my mate and live by my side for the rest of our eternity?,” he asked while he did so.

Yes, I do.” The answer came without missing a beat, making Shouto smile. Without another word, he held out his wrist for Izuku and watched his soulmate take his first sip of Shouto’s blood. It felt weird but in a good way to see Izuku drink his blood, knowing that it would change him forever. Once Izuku had drunken every drop of blood on Shouto’s wrist, Shouto put the dagger away again. His wrist had already healed by now. Carefully, he took another step and wrapped his arms around Izuku, pulling him close and licked over Izuku’s exposed skin, right over the pretty marks on his neck. For a brief moment, he wondered how Izuku would taste once he was changed. Shouto’s fangs ached and he stopped holding back. Without hesitation he bit down, sinking his fangs through Izuku’s neck to drink his blood.

Shouto had to drain him completely for the change to start. At first it was easy, but when he heard Izuku whimper, felt him go limp… he had known that this was going to happen and he knew that he couldn’t stop now without hurting or killing Izuku, but it was still a struggle for Shouto to keep going. But he managed. And then, he picked up his mate’s body and took him to bed, waiting by his side while Izuku’s body went though the change.

************

The world was… loud. That was the first thing Izuku noticed. He could hear a lot more things then before. It was a bit overwhelming. But once he opened his eyes for the first time in this new state of life, all of those new sensory impressions got pushed to the back of his mind. Because there was Shouto. His mate was right there, smiling his beautiful, love filled smile at him. And Izuku could feel how happy his mate (his mate!) was.

“Welcome back, Izuku,” Shouto said. “How are you feeling?”

Smiling softly, Izuku took a moment to listen inside himself, feeling his old but new body.

“Good. Thirsty, but good,” he answered.

“I’m glad,” Shouto said and leaned in, pecking Izuku’s lips shortly. “Let’s get you something to eat, shall we?”

Shouto stood from where he had been sitting on Izuku’s bed, offering his hand to Izuku like the gentleman he was.

“Yeah,” Izuku agreed, taking the offered hand. And he wasn’t going to let go of Shouto’s hand any time soon. Whatever life would throw at them, they would be fine. Because they had each other.
