Summary
Six kids went missing on the night of October 24, 2012, the typical start to your average Halloween Thriller. No different than any cold case before, or after it, except that one of those kids was Jack’s little brother.
The township Burgess left reeling from utter confusion, Emily Benett in mourning, and Jack traumatized, he searches for his fresh start in a city called Berk, located further up north in Pennsylvania where the clues run dry and the case colder still.
However, while there, he gets evidence from an anonymous source that his brother might still be alive somewhere. Being the person that he is, Jack decides to follow the clues, and find his kiddo.
Little does he know that not only will he become even more traumatized from this decision, but he will also endanger the lives of more than eight of his peers. One of which made the idiodic decision to fall in love with him. Bad news for Jack because despite everything, he can't help but absolutely swan dive from cloud nine.

Summary
It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.

Summary
When Hiccup kills his first dragon, he knows his life is going to change - he just thought it would be for the better, at the time. Instead, he finds himself as a passenger in his own body, sharing a mind with the dragon he shot down, burdened with the knowledge that the more time that passes, the more he'll lose himself, becoming one with the Night Fury.
When Jack kills his first dragon, it's a complete accident. An act of desperation: a sword through a wing and a dragon left to die alone in the woods. He didn't even know the dragon had died until its mind slammed into his, wrenching a new form from his body in the middle of his village, nearly killing them in the process. After coming to terms with the Light Fury sharing his mind, he returns home, only to learn that not everyone is quite so accepting.
With no home to go back to, Jack wanders the skies by day and the islands by night. He comes across an isolated island of dragon killers with more than enough to keep him busy, where the chief's son is kind to the Light Fury by day, and where Jack finds a downed dragon who needs his help by night.
