“I was wondering if you would want to hang out with us at the campfire tonight,” Will said, gesturing to Kayla and Austin. Austin gave a sort of nervous grin and Kayla waved, smiling sweetly. Nico’s eyes narrowed, his expression bouncing between confusion and suspicion. Finally he shrugged.
“I don’t know,” he said, suddenly struggling to make eye contact with Will. “Campfire’s aren’t really my thing.”
“That’s ok,” Will said quickly, “You don’t have to like, sing or anything, you can just hang out. The Apollo cabin gets to sit in the front, so prime real-estate for making s’mores.”
“S’mores?” Nico replied, his expression growing even more confused. Will’s jaw dropped.
“You’ve never had s’mores??” he asked incredulously. Nico shrugged and shook his head. “Oh come on, you have to try them, they’re amazing. Come to the bonfire tonight, and I’ll make you some, you’ll love it. I promise,” Will said, eagerly extending his hand to Nico.
Or, Will makes a promise to Nico, and then Nico makes a bigger promise to Annabeth.
Takes place in the days leading up to The Lost Hero.

Nico looked out the open driver-side window and inhaled. The normally-smoggy city air smelled like rotting filth. But above all that, there was something that only Nico seemed to pick up on.
The store’s doors flew open, and he sat up straighter, his nose registering the man’s appearance a split-second before his eyes did. Even from thirty feet away, his scent was intoxicating: anti-septic, sunshine and an ocean breeze. It made no sense on a physical level to be attracted to the scent of hospital. But god, that didn’t stop the glands at Nico’s wrists and neck from itching, and a throb started between his legs.
He’d seen him before, but each time felt as intense as the first.
That blonde, Alpha grocer had become a nuisance.
