Well. That settled it. This man was either fucking stupid, or he was the most kind hearted person that Simon had ever met. Deep down, he had a feeling he already knew which one.
He looked up at Ryland with heavy, drooping eyelids to see hair sticking out in every direction, glasses askew, and a big cozy sweater swallowing his frame. Cute.
If Simon didn’t watch himself, he was going to be in big fucking trouble. As his eyes fluttered closed, he also got the sense that it was already too late.
Or: Two very clueless men cry and hug each other. They fall in love in the process. Then maybe they kiss and stuff too.

Summary
After a disastrous argument with his boyfriend, Tom Ryder, Grace makes the impulsive decision to leave everything behind. Maybe it was the concussion talking. Maybe it was the years of pretending everything was fine finally catching up to him. Either way, he boards an old-fashioned train with no real plan except to get as far away as possible.
Then he meets Simon.

The apocalypse has started in the briny depths.
Ryland Grace, a scientist with a fondness for the ocean, enjoys a simple life. He lives in his tiny shack in a New England wharf town and teaches his precious students until eclipses plunge the small town into darkness and fish wash up on the coastline, bloated and rotting from the inside out.
Something is deeply wrong with the sea, and Grace has no idea how to fix it.
Meanwhile, a convict known as Simon "The Butcher," the sole survivor of a wrecked ship meant to feed a god, finds his humanity stripped from him and turned into a monster beneath the waves.
When Grace finds Simon, Simon is convinced his hell will never end.
Grace has no idea his is only just beginning.

What if, BloodyMary, but instead of space, we're in the 1800s, with big wooden ships and Simon is a mer-like creature who Grace chooses to befriend? And of course, Eldritch gods and horror abound.
Project Hail Mary, Iron Lung, H.P. Lovecraft, Dredge, The Lighthouse and gods-know-what-else all had a nice blood orgy in the sea and the author decided to write it.

Ryland Grace is just starting to get used to his new life on Erid, and he does not miss Earth, or humanity whatsoever. At least, that's what he tells himself. Until Eridian scientists discover a signal, a message, coming from a strange moon around a dead star.
Ryland Grace does not want to go back to space, but there is something about this signal that seems so important, that both intrigues and frightens him. It's just a scouting mission, and he'll have Rocky there the whole time if something goes wrong.

Summary
Ryland Grace had settled nicely into his life on Erid. He had his biome, perfect weather, nutrient bricks, his best friend, and peace at last. What more could a man possibly want?
A bloody, rickety tube, an insult to engineering everywhere, was dragged back to Erid with another human inside. Or, at least something resembling a human. Grace is asked to help gather information and acclimate the new arrival, and he, naturally, agrees. At the end of all the bumps and roadblocks, will the two find common ground, companionship, or perhaps something more?
OR
A fic I'm writing because I'm tired of seeing the same mischaracterized BloodyMary tropes. Miscommunication/lack of communication will die by my hand, these guys will talk or so help me. If a happy, thriving Simon with a green thumb is your thing, I think we'll get along just fine :>
