    “I said give me a second!” He snaps over his shoulder, and shit, he shouldn’t have looked, because he can’t figure out Umemiya’s expression. It’s way too neutral. Surprised? He doesn't know. There’s no scorn, no disgust, but there’s no warmth either. None of the reassurance he’d apparently been hoping for, and God, isn’t that a little pathetic?

    Sakura looks at his hands again. His skin is a mess. It’s all red and white and he thinks there’s purple crescents blooming from where he almost tore his flesh open with his nails.

    “I don’t know what’s happening.”

    That all changed when he moved to Michoko and found Bofurin. When he found Nirei and Suo. Their touches are different, soft and gentle and never a precursor to the pain he's come to expect.
