In retrospect, Bruce shouldn't have gone on patrol during his heat.
In his defense, there was at least a week left, and he had time, in his mind, to fix some things before leaving Gotham to Nightwing and Robin.
In practice, severe stress could have started the heat earlier, and it happened while he was in a random alley in Gotham after fighting Two-Face and his gang.
Bruce knew what he had to do: go home immediately and go to his nest.
But then he smells another person, a pup without a pack, and his other omega instincts get the better of him.
He just hopes that Alfred won't kill him for stealing a pup. Again.

The fact that Light knows how to create a small combustible in his desk drawer is impressive, but it doesn't mean he has much prior experience with those things. Certainly not enough to guarantee that if his safety measure were to activate, it wouldn’t, say, set his entire desk on fire before he had a chance to even try containing the blaze.
Light panics hard when he realizes what’s happening, then harder still when he searches through his clever honor-student mind and comes up with absolutely nothing helpful for stopping a fire that he fucking started in his own goddamn desk drawer.
Ryuk’s cackling laughter isn’t a very helpful soundtrack. Light whips around to tell him that, and—
