Summary
Instead of just handing the cigarette to Todd, Neil placed that cigarette between Todd's pink lips and held it there while Todd inhaled. He brought it back to him when Todd let go and blew, coughing a bit. Neil grinned and laughed that stupid laugh of his and brought the cigarette to his own lips.
"That was good...good puff."
"I know, right." Neil raised his eyebrows and inhaled more and more. "Want more?"

The realisation suddenly struck Todd that all those nights he’d spent, notebook and pen in his hand, scrawling words that came nowhere close to a poem were in vain, because Neil had always been right there, a paragon of poetry if Todd had ever laid eyes on one.
He remembered something Mr Keating had told them before, whispering in his wise, secretive way like he always did: Sometimes, poetry is so raw and beautiful that it takes a second glance for us to fully drink in its breathtaking nature.
And here was Todd’s second glance. It was a glance that did much more than merely observe Neil, it was a look that scrutinised each and every one of his features, and one which helped him to the startling realisation that Neil Perry was gorgeous.

Summary
Todd could feel his heartbeat in his head. He'd always been sort of outwardly nervous, terrible at hiding it, concealing it, pushing it down. He knew Neil and the others must have noticed and cursed himself for not being more subtle. They didn't seem too bad—a little confrontational for Todd's taste—but not rude, not going out of their way to exclude him. They still made him nervous, though. They knew of Jeffrey's excellence and could see plain as day that Todd was far from being like his brother.

In another lifetime, down a road not taken - Todd Anderson phoned Neil Perry literally thousands of times throughout the course of their shared existence.
He called Neil to tell him he loved him. He called Neil’s hotel when he was on tour with his troupe to tell him he missed him and that the house felt empty without him. He called Neil’s office to say he was still mad at him after their fight last night but also he had decided he was cooking dinner this evening and so what would Neil like to eat?
But that first time Todd Anderson ever called Neil Perry? On December 15th, 1959 at precisely 1:07 am?
That was the most important phone call the two boys would ever share.

Hopefully, Neil will get something out of this excursion, perhaps the heart of the object of his affection. He believes it’s nothing more than a dream, a wish.
