"Did you mean it?" Shane blurts. The words tumble out too fast for his liking.
Ilya blinks, "What?"
"When you said you're here if I need you. Did you mean it?" His voice sounds strained, almost panicked.
"I mean... yes?" Ilya's brows knit together. "Hollander, come inside."
The hallway suddenly feels too exposed and way too public for what he's about to say, so Shane steps in. The door shuts behind him with a soft click that feels deafening.
Ilya gestures toward the living room and takes a seat on the couch. Shane stays standing. He feels like if he sits, he won't be able to get the words out.
"I- okay. So J.J., he's my teammate, he told me something at the party. About how players perform better after.." Shane swallows. "After sex. And I thought that sounded fake. But he seemed convinced. And I've been thinking about it all week and I don't want to miss something that could make me better."
Ilya just stares.
"And I've never done anything like that before. So I need someone experienced.
And trustworthy. And you're... you. And I know you. So it makes it less risky. But I don't know if you'd even want to do that with me, so it's fine if you say no, I can find someone else, I just thought-"
"Shane. Shane." Ilya stands abruptly. "I do not understand. Say it clearly."
Shane feels detached from his body. Like he's hovering above himself, watching this unfold. He locks eyes with Ilya. "I need you to fuck me so I can get better at hockey."
The words feel foreign in his mouth. Rozanov is going to kick him out, tell his brother, and he's going to be embarrassed for life.
But there is only silence as the sentence hangs between them. Ilya mutters words under his breath in Russian that Shane can't understand, then he steps closer, a lot closer. -

Shane tries not to shudder at the way his name sounds through Ilya’s deep, velvety-smooth voice.
“I am not calling you Mr. Rozanov.”
“Mmm, yes, like that. Now say it again, but a bit sweeter.”
“If you’re going to be a fucking asshole, we might as well not do this,” Shane snaps.
