"Help," Loki says, his voice completely flat, "I've fallen and I can't get up."
"Did you just," Stark begins, staring over at him with some sort of horror. He's standing in the kitchen, cradling what appears to be a gallon of coffee close to his chest as if to protect it from Loki's villainy. "No! No, no, no! You aren't allowed to make jokes that I would make! You're evil! Be silent and brooding!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, is my existence bothering you?"
"Yes," Stark says, "there are actually few things right now that bother me as much as you do."
OR: in between the "puny god" scene and his sentencing on Asgard, Loki gets caught in a time loop. He'd his refund now, please.
(Odin is a shitty parent, the Avengers are confused, Loki is just trying not to go even more insane than he already is, and the author is starting to wonder why she has so much dialogue from these movies memorized.)

Rose was lost, Martha left, Astrid even died. It's a lonely Doctor that wonders what exactly just went BONK! against his TARDIS, and when he finds out that his visitor claims to be Loki, the God of Mischief, well...
Curious, the Doctor offers him a ride. Unfortunately, Loki decides he wants to go the roots of Yggdrasil. And things...don't go exactly as planned.
Or: What happens after Loki falls from the Bifrost, winds up hurt and confused and furious in a Phone Box and now has to deal with the most bizarre man he has ever met. This has definitely not been one of his better plans.

Summary
When Loki left Earth in chains following the Battle of New York, Tony and the Avengers had thought (hoped, really) that that was the last they'd ever see of the Chaos god.
But Tony Stark wouldn't be Tony Stark if his curiosity and his attempts at doing the Right Thing™ did not end up biting him in the ass.
And now, only seven months after leaving, Loki is very pissed off and back on Earth. Only, this time, with Odin's blessing and the clear demand that Loki should marry a form of Earth Royalty to 'strengthen the alliance between Earth and Asgard' (yeah, right. Tony recognised a time out when he saw one).
Every government in the world puts forward their royals - or the closest things they have to royalty - because of course who wouldn't want the special benefits of having such a powerful alien race as their in laws?
The US does not have royalty.
But they do have Tony Stark.
(He was never doing a Right Thing™ for anyone ever again)
