Summary
Namjoon and Seokjin had always told him that crime could sometimes be used for the greater good. In their case, anyway, fortune stemmed from things that were a tad more shady than what was generally approved of. Wealth and success can create enemies, and it was one thing for Yoongi to watch conflict from afar, and another for conflict to come to him in the form of an unwanted admirer.
Fortunately for him, he had a loving family and a boyfriend ready to rip said admirer's throat out.

Summary
A side story to the events referenced in chapter sixteen of Powerful Families and Threats.
He didn’t exactly feel isolated every time his family went to do a deal without him, or assassinate a contender, or anything of the sort. The majority of the time Yoongi was happy to stay home, but sometimes, sometimes he just wished he was stronger, more outgoing, more skilled, could be on par with the rest of his family instead of being the weakest link, the one to lag behind.
Although every time Yoongi tries to prove his worth, put himself out there to fit in, he manages to be a victim of a mishap, one way or another. That's how he managed to get himself thrown down a flight of stairs, and that's why his boyfriend worries about him constantly, his back now a galaxy of bruises with scratches making shooting stars.

Summary
Yoongi hadn’t looked up since he got into the tub, which had initially been boiling hot, making his skin itch and turn into a bright red. But the water now was cooling, cooling so rapidly that Yoongi felt like it had dropped thirty degrees in a single minute, like he was now in a place where winter never ended. How long had he been here?

Summary
Yoongi had always felt vulnerable. Vulnerable when he used to have to live with his father, vulnerable when Namjoon and Seokjin first took him in, vulnerable when he had been taken just weeks ago. It wasn't a new feeling, but it was amplified.
Every decision he made, every situation he found himself in, it all seemed to highlight how vulnerable he was to the world.

Summary
Namjoon knew that his family was powerful. He knew that his father held parts of the world in his hands, could crush whole cities as soon as he closed his fists, a thing the older man commonly did when he was in a bad mood. Giving a man like his father the ability to destroy anything he wanted was a fault of the world.
It was why he had insisted on attending the school he had chosen, a boarding school with some of the best results in the country, creating philosophers, scientists, politicians, businessmen. It made him hope he would have a chance to live, and Kim Seokjin really made him feel alive.

Summary
Namjoon’s parents were killed in the Spring of Seokjin’s twentieth year, an assassination in the middle of the night when they were being driven back to their home from a meeting, a clean bullet through the back of both their heads. It had been two months; two months and Seokjin woke to an empty bed, the third time this week, not a sign of Namjoon in their bedroom.
“I don’t know what I’m doing, and I hate having to do everything that comes with the job,” Namjoon admitted. “I feel like my skin is being stretched thin over my bones, and everyone wants something from me, and I don’t think I can do it.”

Summary
It felt like the hundredth time Hoseok had come home from school to see his mother’s body on the floor of the bathroom, and he didn’t feel a thing. At this point, it had become part of his routine, to pass through the front door, take off his shoes, put his bag in his bedroom, then drag his mother from the bathroom into bed.
It was unfair, it was unnatural, it was wrong, and it made an anger bubble up inside Hoseok’s body, from his gut to his stomach to his chest, rising up his throat until his vision was stained red with it. It was only Hoseok as he witnessed the flame hit the floor, the shining oil over the wooden boards, and suddenly the flames were bursting, growing, engulfing his home like it was starving. This was mercy.

Summary
Jimin couldn’t remember a time he didn’t know Taehyung, and the younger was in his earliest memory, the first point of his life he could ever pinpoint. It was a recollection of his fourth birthday; the first birthday he could actually remember having, already at the orphanage where he and Taehyung had been introduced as toddlers, left by parents that didn’t want them in the first place.
Taehyung was the closest person he had to a relative, his best friend, his brother, his soulmate, and Jimin would do anything to give him the best things he could get.

Summary
Taehyung was someone who watched the world around him. It was a habit he only realised was odd later in his childhood, when he asked Jimin about something to be answered with ‘why did you even notice that?’, and he found out that most people didn’t see photographs in their mind when they thought of a memory, couldn’t rewatch a scene that had happened before them in perfect focus.
His mind also let him know when someone was lying, when there was deceit pouring out from a person's lips. It made his heart hurt every time Jimin got home and told him about how he ‘found a wallet on the floor’, or ‘an old lady gave it to me’, or even ‘I did some favours for the family across the road and they wanted to pay me’, followed by him producing a large sum of money that he had explained. Every time, Taehyung could tell the other was lying, and he could tell when this man, Namjoon, was telling the truth too.

Summary
When Yoongi was younger, he used to treasure sleep, dreams. He couldn’t pinpoint the exact time that his ideas surrounding sleep changed, when it shifted from being a blessing to a curse, and suddenly the dark behind his eyes was a plague. It had all become routine, to go to school and be invisible to the world, to wait at home for his father to return and see if the man wanted to use him as a punching bag for when he had ingested his own weight in cheap beer when he should have been earning money for them to be able to eat, to live.
There was nothing left for Yoongi in the world, the universe had no love for him, and he was happy to report that the feeling was very much mutual.

Summary
Jeongguk didn’t quite remember how he had managed to get himself into the situation he was in, looking at his leg which was most definitely broken if the angle was anything to go by, the pain just as bad as the limb looked. He could remember why he got into a fight, the prize the blanket he had been given by a stranger when he had been sleeping outside a local corner shop, but the actual start was hazy.
Maybe he had hit his head, because it probably wasn't a good idea to accept the help of a stranger, especially when they looked as rich as the man in front of him and yet was lurking in the worst side of the city. No matter the exact circumstances, Jeongguk found himself making an impulsive decision, but it was all worth it if he got to stay with Yoongi.

Summary
It was a wonder to Namjoon that he had built this family from nothing but ruin, Seokjin the foundations of something Namjoon didn’t even know he needed until it was right in front of him, so obvious he didn’t know how he could have ever missed it. He didn’t want to think where he would be if he hadn’t insisted on every step of his life that led him to this moment, this exact time and place, because Namjoon was sure he would never be as happy as he was now.
He was lucky, Namjoon decided as he watched his family eating dinner, a hum of chatter a constant addition to the life he had always supposed would be so lonely. Seokjin looked over at him, a wide smile on plump lips, and Namjoon knew he was right where he was meant to be.

Summary
“Sir,” the employee began, before his eyes fluttered between everyone left at the table. “Sirs,” he corrected, Jeongguk giving him a small, encouraging smile of approval. “There’s agents sent by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the lobby. They said they would like to ask you some questions.”
When you're on top of the world, it feels like there's nothing that can even brush a finger against you, as though your throne was untouchable, unopposable. Yoongi had felt like he had been flying for so long, the hands dragging him down were a horrifying reality check that their family might not be as divine and unreachable as they thought, and the higher you fly the harder you fall.
