Summary
Carlos had been nervous, the first time he had hosted the 126 at his place. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to do it - it had been his idea, after all - but these were TK’s friends. His family. Carlos isn’t an insecure man, but he had wanted them to like him.
Fortunately, they had - though becoming friends with Firehouse 126 is a dangerous endeavour.

It's never been a problem before, this silence between him and his parents. He's never reached that stage before with other boyfriends, but TK is different. TK is someone he wants to show off, someone who, in theory, he wants to introduce to his parents.
In practice, that thought - that want - scares Carlos more than anything.

Summary
“TK.”
TK jumps and looks up to see Carlos standing in the bathroom doorway. He doesn’t know how long he’s been there, hadn’t noticed him approaching, but if the look on Carlos’s face is anything to go by, it’s been a while.
“Are you okay?” Carlos asks, and there’s that look again. Worry, so obvious it makes TK’s whole chest ache, and the feeling only intensifies as Carlos scans his face, noticeably sticking on the scar.
My eyes are down here, TK wants to joke. Instead, he says, “I’m fine,” and ignores the way his voice shakes as he does so.

Summary
Judd will never forget the first time he laid eyes on Grace.
She'd been so alive that night, her face lit up with joy as they'd danced and laughed and talked. She couldn’t look more different now, unnaturally still on the hospital bed with too many machines doing the work her body can’t. Judd's legs tremble as he clutches onto the railings of her bed, silent tears slipping down his cheeks. He wants, desperately, to touch her, but he keeps his hands resolutely to himself - Grace is so fragile right now, and Judd…
Well, Judd is known for breaking fragile things.

Summary
The fire continues raging whenever TK closes his eyes, and he doesn’t know if it’s better or worse than the sight that greets him when his eyes are open. He wishes he could wipe that awful night from his memory completely and go back to where they were just a few days ago, happy and safe and in their home. They don’t even have that anymore, the house little more than ash, and TK would be okay with that - they could rebuild from that - if Carlos weren’t so silent and still in front of him.
"You still have a home, son," his dad says, but TK shakes his head.
"Not without him, I don't."

Summary
TK is silent the entire drive home, choosing instead to stare out the window with his jaw firmly clenched, his hands making fists in his lap. The silence extends all the way into the house, right up until the point when he flops down on the couch with a loud, frustrated sigh, burying his head in his hands.
At this point, Carlos knows not to push when TK is like this; he’ll talk when he wants to, and not a moment before. So he simply walks over, sitting next to him and placing a hand on TK’s back, rubbing gentle circles. TK slowly relaxes under his touch, unfurling his body, and Carlos is all too happy to let him shift into his arms, holding on and pressing kisses on the top of his head.
I’m here, he’s saying - not with words, but he knows the message gets across regardless.
