Summary
"Hurry up and stop wasting time." The fifth voice he knew all too well. He didn't want to think of his name. The man who was watching and letting this happen. His right wing was forcefully stretched outwards, making his vision go white with the pain that flowed down his- his lost arm.
The knife pressed against where feather met skin.
They were joking. They had to be joking. They just wanted him to cry and beg; that was all. He had done that. They wouldn't take away his pride and joy.

Summary
Virgil had clutched his left hand tightly, yet no pain registered in his numb fingers. Fuzzy words were said to him, questions after questions. Who did this to you? How did you make it to the river? You must have been in so much pain...
Russell had realised later in his life that the screams that haunted him were not his attackers.
They were his.

Summary
"Russ, I've changed my mind," He started, pulling himself up through the window. "I'll help you get to Blindhollow."
As he swung his legs over the frame of the window, he noted that the room housed one less person. Russell's desk was a mess of strewn papers and books, scattered as if moved in a hurry. The opposite to his neat workspace.
"Russ?" Liam could feel his heartbeat thumping against his ribcage.

Summary
Virgil hummed and watched as Dr Pearson strolled across the room to enter the other treatment room. He gently placed his hand on the handle, giving Fate a small smile when she stepped forward to follow him.
"Come along, Fate. This shouldn't take very long. Russell is very good at what he does."
"Hmm... "Shouldn't", you say?" Fate rolled her eyes, following Virgil into the other hospital room.

Summary
Russell stood up at her words, wiping his hands on his trousers as he reached for a washcloth. Fate watched him with interest, noticing the lack of his normal personality. Be it the cocky attitude when he was annoyed or the awkward aura he gave of literally any time he wasn't working.
"How good are you at forgery?"
Huh. That was new.

Summary
Russell could feel the judgement from the two burly men, and he hated it. Hated this part of him, this fear which crawled up his spine at the thought of...
Of going outside?
Of being in public?
Of being away from his safe home?

"Oh, he 'lost so much', huh?" Liam shouted, bordering on hysterical, "He wasn't just- He-- He died, Holloway! It was more than unspeakable, you- You asshole!!"
Holloway turned to face the bandit; his face was horrified by what had just been said. Good. Clearly, Virgil needed more people to tell him how shit of a person he was.
"N-No... No one told you?"

Summary
Fate sighed and mentally berated herself for not catching on sooner. She was usually better at noticing stuff like this. Russell was not rejecting her help specifically. He did not want anyone - not even her - going anywhere near his back. With an injury to his side, which required him to remove his waistcoat and shirt, his back would become exposed to others.
She couldn't help but ponder if something horrible had happened to the doctor - leaving him with deep scars.
Both mentally and physically.

Summary
"I... I know ya," Roach all but collapsed onto the jail cell's bench. His bandaged head hit the wall behind him with a thunk, causing his eyes to screw shut. "Didn' think y'all still even existed."
"Sure ya do, Roach," Liam muttered, fiddling with the bandages to ensure they were still intact. They were shoddily done - not Russell's finest work, admittedly - but they had stayed secure for now. "Just rest, and I'll let the guard know that-"
"Yer Fletcher Rhodes' son."

Summary
"What? Russell isn't a hybrid," Virgil chuckled, setting his pen down on its stand. He gathered his papers up, tapping them into a neat pile against the wooden desk. "If you're concerned his wooden arm used to be like... I don't know, a tiger's paw or something; I assure you it was a normal arm! Haha!"
Fate stormed forward, unperturbed, slamming her palms against his desk. "I know he's a hybrid - I saw the evidence! He was injured - blood pouring down his side - due to a drunk bandit waving around a knife. He asked me to help patch the wound on his hip. I saw the scars, Virge!"

Summary
"A party?" She asked, sweetly. "Oh, I've always wanted to attend one of Mr Crawford's parties! I've heard he puts on some of the best shows ever!"
Mr Powers laughed, running his nose along the edge of her jaw. Amelia's hand pushed long, brown strands out of his face. "Ya damn right he does! Only the finest of booze and the company ain't half bad either! Ol' Crawford loves a good performance by the local saloon girls!"
Every man with a position like his was the same. Same wants. Same desires.
Same weaknesses.

The man finally opened his eyes, the dark orbs scanning Russell's face slowly, with clear annoyance written all over them. Russell could see the moment his anger became realisation. His breath caught in his throat; a vice-like grip threatening to amputate his-
"Well, I'll be damned." The man's voice was thick with alcohol. Surprise danced on their every word as his mouth split with a toothy grin, "It's Little Red, back from the dead!"
