Tragic emotional constipation aside, the juxtaposition of Hiei's unique devotion to those he considers his own and his standoffish behaviour is probably one of the reasons Yusuke's so attracted to him. The challenge of getting through that defensive demeanour may have been what attracted him in the first place but that doesn't make the task of having an "emotional" talk with the demon any less daunting.
