Summary
Mirk has lost everything: his noble family, his home, and nearly his life. All he has left is his grandfather’s staff and the K’maneda, the strange band of foreign mercenaries who saved him. He decides to build a new life among them in their wandering City of Glass, dedicating himself to healing the outcast and forgotten men who did everything to protect him. Providence makes no mistakes. And to live is to serve.
Genesis is an expert at three things: binding magic, assassination, and cleaning potions. Everything else is a mystery to him, especially people. Which is a crucial shortcoming, considering his ambition is to launch an insurrection against the corrupt mages who have warped the K’maneda into a machine designed to grind up the poor for the benefit of the wealthy. He will never be free. All he can do is use his chaotic magic to liberate those who can be.
They’re an unexpected team: the unrelenting and inhumanly powerful Destroyer and the kindly healer with the right lineage and a knack for putting the right people in the right places. But will it be enough to ensure the revolution prevails? And is there more to their relationship beyond a mutually beneficial alliance?

Summary
France. October, 1792. The mortals have abolished their monarchy and arrested their king. But the situation among the fledgling Republic's mages is very, very different.
Mirk remains at the head of the d'Avignons, but its present fortunes are just as low as when he took up his grandfather's staff a century ago. With the mortals in chaos, the magical nobility of France has tightened its grasp on power rather than fleeing. But many mages -- those with the least to lose -- are calling for the opening of the guilds. Which leaves Mirk with a decision to make: either help his fellow nobles, or entrust his family's fate to those who stand against them.
Genesis has no doubts. Assisting the low-born French mages is a prime opportunity for the K'maneda to return to its revolutionary roots. Committing the Seventh Infantry to the revolution could lead the K'maneda in the direction the division's fighters have been struggling toward for a century. Or it could spell disaster, if the revolution fails.
Their responsibilities and beliefs could put them on opposite sides of the fight. Can their devotion to each other help them find a way to bring their causes together? Or will their duty split them apart?

Summary
Being a 300-year-old eldritch horror is hard. Being a 300-year-old eldritch horror in love is even worse.
After an unnaturally long bout of the will-he-won't-he business, Genesis finally summons the nerve to make a move on his long-time friend/not very secret crush, Mirk. However, he soon finds out that the first move wasn't even the hardest part. What is a date, exactly? How does this whole "making out" thing work? And, more importantly, why aren't there any decent books on the subject? Mirk, on the other hand, soon finds that Catholic guilt has nothing on dealing with Genesis's stubborn refusal to proceed unless everything's perfect. Or on attempting to carry on an intimate relationship with someone who's a foot and a half taller than he is.
A sweet, heartwarming tale of a love finally consummated...awkwardly.
